The other thread is full and I can’t see a new one! Hope it’s OK to start one. I’m actually barely surviving puppyhood, actually teenagerhood, this week 🤬😡😭.

A white tug?! You’re a brave lady!! Grin

I agree re thinking of them as babies - it’s helped me not to have the puppy dislike at 5am! ChenPup started off in his crate last night, howled loudly so was taken out to the garden where he did another wee and then promptly settled himself in front of the radiator again and refused to move. He slept there until 7am with no poo accidents, so we’re all feeling a lot less sleep deprived today.

GuyFawkesDay · 01/03/2022 10:40

Very proud of Mr FawkesPup today. Took him to one of our haunts and he's made a friend with a nervous cocker spaniel a similar age. A few weeks of meeting up with her: at first she was so nervous and a bit fear reactive and he was sweet and now they are so cute together. They ran and played for 40 minutes so happily.

And he came back to every whistle today.

I reckon he's just lulling me into a false sense of security before he goes deaf and daft again 🤣🤣🤣

This dog is so spoilt!

@tizwozliz oh wow are they for her or are you sharing lol?

tizwozliz · 01/03/2022 13:01

All for her - mine were much bigger than that Grin

Autumn101 · 01/03/2022 15:08

Good pancake work! She is a real beauty isn’t she?!

florafaunaforest · 01/03/2022 16:59

@GuyFawkesDay amazing!! She's so sweet.

@Autumn101 that is so ideal... great work!

Just returned from the vets - Florapup vomiting all day, lethargic and shaking. Apparently he ate something gross (he eats everything he can find on his walk) and just has a bad tummy. Vet recommended a diet of cooked chicken and rice for a few days - cost me £150 to find out! The end of a very long day...

ABitBesotted · 01/03/2022 18:17

Glad your silly greedy pup is OK, flora.

My dog met an adult chihuahua called Gringo (Grin) today (about a third her size) and wasn't too much of a scrappy bitey dickhead.

GuyFawkesDay · 01/03/2022 19:09

Banana pancakes for FawkesPup too, he LOVED them!!!!

How is Florapup today? Hope he’s back to himself again

So cute seeing the pancake pictures

Aria20 · 02/03/2022 11:18

My baby has gone to be spayed today! Poor thing totally unaware happily wagging her tail trotting into the vets...hoping for a quick and uncomplicated recovery!

tizwozliz · 02/03/2022 11:24

Going to feel like a long day @Aria20 When do you expect to have her home again?

I've been researching as our vets doesn't do a laproscopic spay which I think is my preference. I can't decide if it's a good thing to go to a unfamiliar vets or not. At the moment she loves the place!

Aria20 · 02/03/2022 11:31

@tizwozliz I'm hoping to collect her about 5 if she wakes up ok although they are open til 8pm if they need to monitor her longer. The house is weirdly quiet!

They only do the traditional spay at our vets as well but spoke to another spaniel owner who was going to have the key hole done at a different vets and they said for small/medium size dog traditional spay is advised so I stuck with that! I think as yours is bigger the key hole might be a good option as recovery is supposed to be quicker!

TerrierOrTerror · 02/03/2022 11:43

We'll be going for a keyhole spay - vet said to us they prefer to do them on medium/larger dogs and ours is just on the border of whether they would do it given she's underweight. If she looses any more weight between now and her op they may have to do a traditional one though. Really hoping she doesn't!

Her vet branch doesn't do keyhole but two locally do including the one which is actually closest. We have the choice of drop off to normal branch and they will transport, or take her ourselves. She's used the local branch before in an emergency and she LOVES the vet (I literally can't walk her by either surgery) so I think we'll be fine either way. No idea how much extra keyhole is though!

Aria20 · 02/03/2022 12:20

@TerrierOrTerror it's double around here

tizwozliz · 02/03/2022 12:24

I'm not sure what the cost is for a regular spay but we've been quoted £450 for a 27kg dog for a laproscopic spay.

Autumn101 · 02/03/2022 16:48

Today I am covered in mud, whilst pups loves his walks he also loves jumping at me for a significant amount of the walk too 🙄 with the weather so bad it’s meaning each walk is a change of clothes! Any ideas to help stop or minimise it? We’re only a week in to being able to go for walks so maybe it’s too early to try and train it out of him?! It’s mostly excitement, his tail wags at a million miles an hour when we’re out!

Blahblahblah40 · 02/03/2022 17:17

@Autumn101 with hindsight I wish I had started with Blahpup on day 1!! I’ve only just started trying to get him to walk nicely and combat the jumping and pulling now. We are 3 days in and I’d say he gets it about 60-70% of the time so they are like little sponges right now obviously. I still get a lot of jumping and pulling if he sees another dog or person or leaf or crisp packet though..
I found a really good video on you tube by a guy called Nigel Reed who goes into the psychology of it all and shows you techniques to prevent pulling and getting them to walk nicely. Definitely working.

TerrierOrTerror · 02/03/2022 17:39

@tizwozliz that's pretty in line with where I am thinking. Appreciate I should definitely have got the cost before I booked it but tbh I would pay a lot to not put her through (1) another season and (2) a traditional spay. The sofa is hers and I have no idea how we'll keep her off it.

certainshepherdpups · 02/03/2022 18:26

My pup is getting up to a lot of teenage mischief these days. He's 8 months old and his favourite trick is to steal something of ours. His preferences are socks and anything made of paper. Smile So far he hasn't devoured any important documents and I hope it stays that way!

Our biggest challenge is still jumping up on people. He can easily walk past anyone if they ignore him. But as soon as someone interacts with him he jumps up (or tries to). We're working on it but it's taking much longer than I had hoped.

Otherwise he's a delight. I had a dream last night that he could talk. I was so thrilled, in the dream I kept thinking how brilliant it was that he could now explain exactly what he wanted or needed! Grin

SirChenjins · 03/03/2022 08:47

Oh that must have been such a lovely dream @certainshepherdpups! So what did he need and want?! We have a 'voice' for our pup and have entire conversations with him.

ChenPup has taken to hiding his valuable treats around the house. He loves a filled trachea, they're his absolute favourites, and it's great fun watching him hide them when he doesn't know we're watching. Last night he hid one in our bed - he pulled back the covers with his paws, and then pushed them back up after he'd deposited it under the duvet. Good job I'd seen him do it otherwise DH would have had a nasty surprise when he got into bed.

tizwozliz · 03/03/2022 13:32

I'd love to be able to ask pup if she was feeling poorly or just not hungry.

I’d love to be able to explain that it’s 6am and he needs to go back to bed 😂
SirChenjins · 04/03/2022 08:43

I’d ask why he panics when I go to another room and shut the door behind me - he can clearly hear me pottering around in there, so why the whining and scratching at the door? 🤷‍♀️
