Another dog just ate (a massive amount) of my dog's poo!

On our morning walk today my 7year old black lab did his usual massive emission on the pavement. So as a responsible dog owner I scooped it up in a baggy and off we went. A few minutes later in a lovely wooded area (no livestock) I let him off lead. We met a man with another black lab off lead and the dogs were friendly and played nicely. Until his dog jumped up and nicked the baggy out of my hand, tore it open and started scoffing the contents ShockConfused I shouted " Leave it" in my best commanding voice which works with my dog but this one carried on munching. The owner was mortified and waved me away shouting "I'll deal with this!" and declining my offer of a fresh baggy. So I left him to clear up the mess. Should I be worried about the other dogs health? Should I have stayed and cleaned up the remnants as it was my dogs poo? Was it my fault? Please tell me some of you see the funny side of this as the other dog owner sure didn't! Blush

It's not your fault in the slightest - Would not give it another thought

Wtfdoipick · 14/05/2021 09:32

It's the sort of stunt my dog would play. Best thing you could do was get out of there, I'd be dying of embarrassment if I was him and just want peace to clear it all up.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 14/05/2021 09:35

I’m surprised it hasn’t happened until now in the 7years you had your dog.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 14/05/2021 09:36

Oh sorry, you are worried about the baggie etiquette.

It’s a bit of a grey area.

Chasingsquirrels · 14/05/2021 09:37

Of course it's not your fault.

My dog eats poo, his own mainly. And also runs off with poo bags if he can steal them, although he doesn't tear them open and eat them, just runs away with them.

BabyLEphant · 14/05/2021 09:50

Oh god there was loads of it though and he wolfed it down! Envy(not envy)! I did think it was a bit funny and joked that my dog eats a really good diet so it should be good stuff and at least it was fresh he he but the man was all stoney faced and not laughing

As does one of mine, his or any he encounters on a walk, gross!
TheVolturi · 14/05/2021 10:06

Is there a dog poo troll now 🙄

luxurychocolate · 14/05/2021 10:07

Omg. This is so gross.

If there was ever a way to put off unlikely new dog owners this thread should be it.

Goes off to vomit quietly

If you're squeamish don't get a dog - they eat their own sick too. I'm sure no-one intentionally let's their dog eat their own shit but some dogs just do!
Yawnthisway · 14/05/2021 10:11

I don’t think the man was cross with you he was just probably feeling a bit ill at the cleanup and also desperate to make sure the dog didn’t eat the plastic bag. Having to clean up shit from your dogs mouth before he can come back in house isn’t what you want particularly in the morning.

Once I was in a minibus and someone had a dog. The dog obviously ate shit just before we set off because he vomited it up about ten minutes into journey. It was honestly the worse smell I’ve ever smelt and I was nearly sick myself.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 14/05/2021 10:17

I can see why the other owner didn’t find it funny, if it was my dog I would be absolutely mortified and so embarrassed. It’s quite a hard thing to laugh at if it’s happening to you.

Best to leave them to their embarrassment and try to battle with their dog over the poo.

Charlieiscool · 14/05/2021 10:18

Dogs are filthy. Remember this when you let them lick your face.

BabyLEphant · 14/05/2021 10:20

Sorry everyone this is gross first thing in the morning. No it's never happened to me before in 7 years of having this dog or previous. My dog tries to eat cow pats and sheep poo but I can usually get him away. He's never shown any interest in another dogs business so I didn't really know this was a thing. Good point about not wanting the dog to eat the plastic. That could have been dangerous.

BabyLEphant · 14/05/2021 10:22

I think it's good for new or potential new dog owners to know what they are getting into. Incidents with other people and other dogs on walks are very much part of life with a dog. This is just a particularly yucky one

Also have to say this only happened after the lab had jumped up at me 5 or 6 times. I held the bag out if his reach and I thought he'd lost interest. It was on the 7th time he zoomed back to me and leapt up to grab it fast. He leapt about 6ft high as I was holding it above my head and I'm not short! I did try to keep it away from him

My DD keeps on asking to have a dog, I was starting to waver and was considering giving in. This thread reminds me that I will never, ever be able to deal with this sort of stuff, so no dogs for us. Thanks OP Grin

CatherineMorland · 14/05/2021 10:27

Suddenly my dog’s habit of rolling in fox poo doesn’t seem so bad.

Words I never thought I’d write!

OldTinHat · 14/05/2021 10:36

My dog loved rolling in fox poo and did hoover up some horse shit on one occasion. He started eating his own out of the blue, deteriorated fast and was pts 48hrs later. This was a month ago and god, do I miss the smelly hair face! I won't get another dog though, they are quite disgusting!

BabyLEphant · 14/05/2021 10:40

@OldTinHat so sorry for the loss of your buddyThanks

I feel rather glad that my dog is a lady and wouldn't eat poo or vomit. She did manage to catch and eat a vole the other day barfed it up, sniffed and wandered off.

Thank god for tiled floors.

JovialNickname · 14/05/2021 10:44

This is why many people (myself included) believe dogs to be filthy disgusting animals.

(To head off the inevitable "why are you looking at a dog thread if you don't like dogs" response, this thread is top of Active! Smile )

LadyCatStark · 14/05/2021 10:51

He was probably mortified rather than annoyed with you! 🤢

fartasapissed · 14/05/2021 10:53

@BabyLEphant thank you! I love reading this part of MN because it makes me laugh and reminds me of all the daft things pooches do! This is a pic of my old dog, always after attention! He was a velcro dog.

Another dog just ate (a massive amount) of my dog's poo!
