Another dog just ate (a massive amount) of my dog's poo!

On our morning walk today my 7year old black lab did his usual massive emission on the pavement. So as a responsible dog owner I scooped it up in a baggy and off we went. A few minutes later in a lovely wooded area (no livestock) I let him off lead. We met a man with another black lab off lead and the dogs were friendly and played nicely. Until his dog jumped up and nicked the baggy out of my hand, tore it open and started scoffing the contents ShockConfused I shouted " Leave it" in my best commanding voice which works with my dog but this one carried on munching. The owner was mortified and waved me away shouting "I'll deal with this!" and declining my offer of a fresh baggy. So I left him to clear up the mess. Should I be worried about the other dogs health? Should I have stayed and cleaned up the remnants as it was my dogs poo? Was it my fault? Please tell me some of you see the funny side of this as the other dog owner sure didn't! Blush

We should have had this thread before the lockdown puppy craze hit.

And cats leave things in places only known to them so you you find a dried up offering months later!

My baby daughter had awful nappy rash so I let her have some tummy time nappy free (on top of a towel!) She immediately did a horrible cow pat texture poo and my dog ran over to scoff it. I actually gagged at the sight of it Grin

Extra odd as he's not a poo eater at all thankfully. I think it's a sign of vitamin deficiency

That made me laugh. Ditto the reflux

Dogs love a bit of poo. We get horses in or local park and you see dogs eating and/or rolling in it.

@VanCleefArpels thank you for the link to the article. Very interesting. Maybe there is something in their diets which are different. My dog has a mix of high protein Orijen food and fresh chicken. Maybe the other lab is not getting enough nutrients?

My dog has never eaten poo!
*just bragging... she's an absolute GIT in many other ways....

aiwblam · 15/05/2021 00:17

My dog did this once - didn't snatch a poo bag, but gobbled up a random dog poo that some bastard owner hadn't bothered to pick up. My dog was fine - if your dog is healthy, wormed etc, then the poo stealer should be fine. He may have a stinky mouth, but other than that, he'll be ok.

Feckauras · 15/05/2021 00:26

I think Labs are known for eating their own shit.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 15/05/2021 07:44

I have a little zip up wet bag for holding full poo bags for this exact reason as DPup almost ripped one open and I decided I'd rather not chance it! It was only about £8 from a seller on Etsy and its brilliant.
