I have a nameless puppy... any ideas?

He’s 5 months, been in a shelter the entire time, he’s very sweet but seems to have saved up all the chewing Hmm lol

He’s only been here since yesterday, we’ve cracked going upstairs (they were the work of beelzebub and he’s too chewy to leave alone so I had to sleep on the couch last night) made a start on crate training, he seems to have housetrained himself while in kennels which is a bonus, but I kind of need to call him something now to get started on everything else.

I don’t like people names, I don’t want anything like Marley or Bailey where you meet 2 on every walk...

Oh and it can’t have R in it (my DS has a speech disorder)

Also, my DP pointed out that my last two dogs have begun with a b, I don’t want that to be a thing, lol, so, preferably not starting with a b.

Not a clue what he is, they only ever had the puppies, not a mum and he actually looks like a completely different mix of dogs in every photo, lol... but I’ll put one in anyway so you can see him.

My front runner at the moment is Dax, but it’s only me that likes it, lol.

I considered bilbo, but it’s a b... and tbh, I’m not a massive hobbit or LORT fan, I just like it, so I’ve gone off that.

And I did seriously consider chomp, lol, but it sounds too similar to my cat’s name

So, um, I suspect quirky is probably what I’m after, but not so weird that my DP and DS object

TIA Grin

I do hope you come back and let us know which name you finally decide on. Looks an adorable bundle of fun. For what it's worth I think Chewie suits his current traits

Soberfutures · 06/03/2021 11:06

With the spud theme how about masher?
I also like chewey.

BrownOwlknowsbest · 06/03/2021 11:09

Lucky?

Ihoeihoeihoe · 06/03/2021 11:11

As soon as I saw the picture I thought Bowie or Bonzo and then read no B’s! He is beautiful though

RedLlama · 06/03/2021 11:12

Oh I will - I’m waiting on my DP’s opinion on my list... though, so far every list gets vetoed.

But he needs a name today really so...

If I ever had a male dog I would be calling them Trigger or Boycie - but it’ll never happen as my partner prefers female dogs

Kona84 · 06/03/2021 11:26

Given his colour - Ghost, Spectre, Ice, Spook? I do like the Dobbie suggestion though!

moosemama · 06/03/2021 11:56

The consensus here is that he looks like a Cosmo.

littlebillie · 06/03/2021 12:03

Fenton

tabulahrasa · 06/03/2021 12:06

Urgh... my entire list got either smutty comebacks or... that’s not a name.

Now given Monty and kit were on that list and they’re literally people nicknames!!!

He then suggested his own name and Jimmy Hmm

So finally, we’re going with dexter and I can call him Dex to avoid rs, lol

Dexter is a great name - and how convenient that Dex is pronounced in the same way as Dax 😉

Lol, it was actually my DPs only actual useable suggestion - to shorten it.

But he hated Dax... the man makes less sense than me

You can't call him chewbarker... he's all wrong for that!

I know it's a human name, but I like Monty. He looks like a Monty

His ears are like the ones in the snowman... so I thought Briggs, but would your DS struggle with that?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/03/2021 12:18

I think we need more photos to teally help!

LeaveMyDamnJam · 06/03/2021 12:19

Herbert.

Bert for short. Herbert when naughty.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/03/2021 12:21

Dexter/Dex is good

moosemama · 06/03/2021 12:42

Dexter is a great name.

We have endless arguments about names every time we get a new dog. Last time the dcs ganged up with dh to pick the only name I really hated off the list, although I grew to love it and it did suit him. Rescue before that came with a name we liked and he was used to, so we kept it.

We’re on a waiting list for our next pup (won’t be till 2022) and I already have a list of names that I add to whenever I get inspired. It changes constantly and I keep rearranging it with the front runners at the top, but I’m already facing opposition from the gang.

This time I am putting my foot down. I WILL have final say. I do all the research, contact with rescue/breeder, planning, organising, health care, grooming, vet visits, insurance, not to mention care and training (although to be fair they are all willingly involved with day to day dog care now they’re older) so I think it’ my turn to choose.

tabulahrasa · 06/03/2021 12:43

More pictures... yes, he’s actually trying to chew stone Confused lol

He’s a clever wee thing, he’s already going... well I don’t know what that sound you’re making is, but apparently it means food so I’m there...
