Here we go, hero puppy owners.

We've just got back from the vet where I was shocked to discover he now weights 4kg. Little lump! He's 19 weeks old tomorrow. Wonder how big he'll get? On a miniature poodle group I'm in the adults are anywhere between 6-12kg. I hope he's small as easier to carry about!

DPups tummy still not right and she is thoroughly fed up of the heat now. I keep throwing ice cubes at her and wet towels but she's not much interested.

Yawningyawning · 08/08/2020 12:23

We’ve got a not right tum here too

muckandnettles · 08/08/2020 12:31

@Juiceey any update on your pup after the vet's visit? Hope everything is okay.

@OwlInAnOakTree pleased to hear things are going well now with ds - such a relief for you.

We had a really nice walk this morning, pup came back when called, went to say hello to other dogs without going crazy and then sat nicely while we had coffee. I think it's the first walk where I started to feel relaxed a bit and where dh also seemed to actually enjoy being with him. Mucky actually retrieved a ball as well, so amazing. We had had such a poor week with him where I felt he had forgotten everything I'd taught him, not to mention the complete humiliation of the puppy school humping episode that I really needed a good morning with him. So maybe it was the teething this week that made him like that?

Emrysmcdogface · 08/08/2020 16:13

Hello all! We are loving being allowed outside! Had 2 2 hour sessions of short walk/ sitting chatting in parks, and then he's been a dream the rest of the day.

We have puppy school tomorrow for the first time! I'm really nervous! What happens there? What prep can I do? What high value treats to bring?

Juiceey · 08/08/2020 16:47

Thanks everyone. He's still not right. Hasn't eaten since Thursday breakfast :(

Vet said tummy ache and gave him an injection which he said was basically pepto bismol for dogs. As he's not got sickness or diahorea he isn't too worried. He made me buy a bag of special food which Juicey ate a small handful of while we were there, it was ridiculously expensive and of course JP hasn't touched it since!

I rang vet again today who said to try white fish, so we went and bought some and he's eaten 1/3rd of a fillet which is some success. He said if he didn't eat by tomorrow he'd need to go in for blood tests.

I'm worried about him, he's sleeping loads and just not himself.

Oh Juiceey sorry to hear pup is still not right.

Trust your instinct though and push for tests if you think he needs them. You know your puppy best.

Hi can I join please, we got Bobby on Monday. He's doing really well so far but definitely didn't like the heat yesterday, he was very unsettled and didn't want to sleep. Very barky, bitey puppy last night, but settled eventually and slept till nearly 7 this morning.

Oh my goodness @user1460571583 he’s tiny!!

muckandnettles · 08/08/2020 18:32

@Juiceey I'm so sorry to hear he still isn't right - must be so worrying for you all. At least he has eaten a little bit, which has to be a good sign.

@Emrysmcdogface puppy school was more competitive than I was expecting! The one I went to, pups have joined as and when they wanted so some had done the things before and some hadn't. Our first week was someone else's last week, which seemed a bit odd to me. We walked round the room, did a bit of recall, stay, did a lot of listening (really difficult!) and then I got humped by my big pup, making me look a complete fool.

muckandnettles · 08/08/2020 18:33

@user1460571583 Bobby is a great name!

user1460571583 · 08/08/2020 18:42

Haha @GingerAndTheBiscuits that was taken on Monday night and he already looks bigger and chunkier.
Thank you @muckandnettles, we have wanted a puppy for a long time and his name was always going to be Bobby.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 08/08/2020 21:05

@Juiceey sorry to hear pup is feeling poorly, fingers crossed hes feeling better soon.

Took smileypup to pets at home today and got him a harness, he thlught shopping was great, he did a massive wee in the middle of the shop though so it may be the last time i take him Hmm

He has spent the last 2 days in and out the paddling pool with the kids or laying in the tuff tray which ive been filling with water for him to splash in. Hes also been dragging his cool mat round the house with him, he finds a cool area and lies on it Grin

Housetraining is still very all over the place, somedays hes really good and asks to go out and has no accidents amd others he just pees everywhere im finding it very frustrating but trying not to get too annoyed with him. We can be in the garden for hours, he then comes in and does a wee in the lounge.

Hes 15 weeks old tomorrow

Juiceey · 08/08/2020 22:00

Thanks everyone. He had some chicken tonight too then was playful for half an hour which is the best he's been for a few days.

@smilingthroughgrittedteeth Juiceypup shat in pets at home. And it was his first proper sloppy one! I was mortified!

Hello all. Back from a weeks holiday self catering and pup was an angel. I took her big crate in the end and the usual blanket over the top and she slept perfectly so that was a good move. She was so tired from days out that we had very few bitey incidents and only a couple of toilet accidents. I think she might be disappointed that life goes back to normal now.

Off to catch up with everyone else now...

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 09/08/2020 09:49

Very glad it’s cooler today! @Juiceey I hope your pup eats today-we always went down the rice and chicken route as it seemed to suit old lady dog.

The crocodile lost her mind in the heat and refused to go outside in the sunshine to do any of her business! Literally, if I carried her outside, she ran straight back inside! She then proceeded to pee in every single one of her three beds!
After several hours of complete nightmare behaviour, I put her in her crate with a frozen kong and locked her in! She whined for about 5 mins before she gave up and went to sleep-control crying for dogs🤣 She’s now 9 weeks old and getting bigger all the time. Vet check up on Tuesday. Currently asleep at my feet-I’m trying very hard to not let her keep jumping up-she’s good at this for me, but the kids just lift her on to the sofa so they just confuse the poor thing. This is her yesterday asleep on my kindle🤨

Morning all, hope Juiceypup is doing better today. I think DPup might have a bit of conjunctivitis, one eye was all sticky when I got her out the pen this morning. Will keep an eye and ring the vets in the AM when they open if no better

muckandnettles · 09/08/2020 11:17

@MrsElijahMikaelson1 gorgeous pup photo!

@Imadreamer44 Muckypup has a similar problem with his eyes this week so I'm bathing them with cooled boiled water each day - I think I might end up at the vets but only just paid out for an ear infection a week ago, so hoping they might clear without another visit! It might just be a bit of irritation from all the grasses we walk through each day.

AmigoDog · 09/08/2020 11:45

Morning everyone. I’m so fed up with this weather. Poor AmigoPup is pretty much a ball of black fluff so isn't made for the heat. He’s been really sleepy and then manic. This morning he was super bitey too.
Luckily our front room is fairly cool so we have mainly been hiding in there. I’m hoping it cools down a lot by next weekend when we are finally allowed to take AmigoPup for a walk (or attempt to walk him at least).
Did anyone find a good YouTube video to watch before our first walk?

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 09/08/2020 12:09

For mucky eyes, try cooled tea (without milk and sugar obviously!!!)🤣

OwlInAnOakTree · 09/08/2020 13:07

Thanks @muckandnettles, still a work in progress, but yes, a relief that it's going in the right direction!

Bobby is so cute @user1460571583!

Oh no @smilingthroughgrittedteeth, our trip to pets at home was stressful enough without a wee accident (over excited puppy lunging at everyone and everything) that I also said I'd not take him again.

@MrsElijahMikaelson1 😍 lovely pic.

Hope those with sticky eyes are all better soon.

How's juiceeypup doing today @Juiceey?

Owlpup had an unexpected very early morning trip to the park to look for BuzzLightyear that DS left there yesterday afternoon. 🙄 And we're just in from a walk. They're getting less stressful but he's still pulling most of the time and far too interested in everything else to take notice of treats to tempt him not to. He does sit well at roads though, so that's something. His natural pace is so much faster than mine. Maybe if I was capable of waking faster, he wouldn't pull?!

Juiceey · 09/08/2020 18:02

He's a bit better today. Ate some plain chicken at breakfast, then his butternut box at lunch- first meal since Thursday morning! Success! However, won't touch his dinner (any variation I've offered).

Still it's something so hopefully on the mend.

We went to puppy class today with a focus on recall- nobody else turned up so we got a 1:1 session which I was dead pleased about considering they're usually £140! All good, except when he weed on the floor (of course).

OP posts:
muckandnettles · 09/08/2020 18:32

@Juiceey that sounds much better - glad he is on the mend. This weather is throwing everything out I think, so it might just be that. Lucky you with 1:1 puppy class as well as it's those others watching that make me feel so useless each week when I go!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 09/08/2020 21:16

I second the using cooled used teabags to clean eyes with its brilliant.

@Juiceey glad pup has eaten something

Smileypup is hating the heat, the only cool place is my bedroom so we came up to bed at 8.30pm and he willingly got into his crate. His vool mat is in half of it so hes currently laid with his bum on that and his head pushed up against the bars where the fan is blowing, he has finally stopped panting and his breathing is slow and measured so hes obviously feeling cooler.

Emrysmcdogface · 10/08/2020 06:25

We coped ok with puppy class until the very end, when he got into fighty bitey mode... although he's one of the youngest there, the rest were small breeds, so he needs to learn how to play nicely!

There was quite a long talking bit, but the trainer gave them all complicated kong/chew combo's so they were all really good at that. Emrys puppy gave his kong to the next dog to share it, which was very sweet!

He totally embarrassed himself when we got home though! Barking and biting DD.

Then slept almost solidly from 3pm to 5am, with only a few mins awake to go to the toilet!

AmigoDog · 10/08/2020 07:29

Poor AmigoPup didn’t sleep well last night. We’d left the door of his crate slightly open so he had access to his pen (and a training pad) incase he was desperate for the toilet (he didn’t do his late night poo). This is something we’ve done a few times for various reasons and he usually stays in his crate unless he needs a wee. Tonight he was so unsettled - I could see him on the Dogcam wandering around the pen and lying down in different places. I went down and moved both the fan and air purifier so they were close to him and took him out for the loo (nothing). I also put his spare cushion in the pen in the coolest bit. He eventually settled in the crate although he moved a few times during the night. It’s just too hot. He was awake when I went down at 6 this morning, but He’s still so sleepy. Poor thing. Can’t believe we’ve got another 2 days of mid-thirties heat. Not good for a very fluffy black dog. I’ve ordered a cool mat which will arrive later today but I don’t have much hope for it surviving long with bitey pup.
