Here we go, hero puppy owners.

We've just got back from the vet where I was shocked to discover he now weights 4kg. Little lump! He's 19 weeks old tomorrow. Wonder how big he'll get? On a miniature poodle group I'm in the adults are anywhere between 6-12kg. I hope he's small as easier to carry about!

Mucky has now lost two of his razor sharp teeth so that is cause for big celebration in our house. He is very sorry for himself though, and keeps having a little moan. His gums do look sore so I'm giving him lots of ice and frozen teatowels. Anything else good for teething?

grannycake · 07/08/2020 11:44

@muckandnettles How about a frozen carrot?

SweetestThing · 07/08/2020 11:49

Morning, all.

Gorgeous pup, @Juiceey. Don't they just make your heart melt?

Hamish had his second vaccinations this morning and also flea/tick/worm treatment. He's now snoozing on the kitchen floor - our house is very cool, so he should be okay in the heat today. Rabies jag and pet passport appointment in two weeks (just in case we manage to get away anywhere - looking increasingly unlikely, sadly) and third vaccinations two weeks after that.

Lick mat arriving today. Frozen Kong with treats and peanut butter proving popular and also ice cubes to crunch on.

muckandnettles · 07/08/2020 12:30

@grannycake thank you - good idea!

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 07/08/2020 13:18

MEM pup just went into the garden of her own volition and had a pee! Won’t last I’m sure as I think she was following DD out and the mood took her but a celebration none the less!
Have bought the kong peanut butter today and squirted into a kong, which is now in the freezer ready for later. She’s finding it really difficult to settle today and has turned into a crocodile!

Juiceey · 07/08/2020 14:22

He's a miniature poodle! :)

Something is wrong with Juiceypup. He hasn't eaten since his breakfast yesterday which is MASSIVELY unlike him, he's normally nutty for food. I've offered kibble and his butternut box, plus some of the salmon mousse, he turns away from it all. He's also sleeping a lot more than usual.

I mostly think it's the heat but I'm also really worried so we're off to the vets in a bit. EXPENSIVE DOG!

Hope everything is okay @Juiceey, crossing fingers for you.
DPup is very sleepy today too, and annoyed that she hasn't had her lunchtime walk with it being too hot.

AmigoDog · 07/08/2020 16:40

I hope he’s ok juiceey. Our pup has just become active about 10 minutes ago for pretty much the first time today. He did have his injections this morning, but I’m fairly certain it’s mainly the heat.

Has anyone tried the squirty kong filling that comes in an aerosol? I bought the puppy version which says it’s ok from 8 weeks. AmigoPup has had it twice (small amounts) and LOVES it, but I’m wondering what others experiences are with it. I’m assuming it’s something that will need limiting and it’s probably not hugely healthy...

polkadotpjs · 07/08/2020 18:40

Hope juicy pup is ok. Let us know

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 07/08/2020 18:49

@AmigoDog we’ve tried two but they were so expensive. Can highly recommend the 25p jars of salmon and chicken paste from Tesco as an alternative. Or cream cheese or freely yoghurt. Much cheaper and probably a bit better for them!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 07/08/2020 18:49

Greek*

pistachioicecream · 07/08/2020 18:57

Hope you got on ok at the vets @Juiceey and gorgeous photos! Hopefully its just the heat.

Second the frozen yoghurt or cream cheese suggestions. Vey popular here.

Although anything is more popular than kibble!

Imadreamer44 · 07/08/2020 19:05

The heat is hitting the toilet training hard. Had a couple of indoor wees today after barely any this week. Extreme weather gets them all unsettled doesn't it.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 07/08/2020 19:08

GP is sleeping a lot which doesn’t bode well for tonight 😬 it’s too hot to do any of her usual energetic activities. Will try a walk about 9ish and hope it makes up for all the lazing about (she has been for a swim in the countryside earlier too)

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 07/08/2020 19:09

I so badly need a shower. DH is on 12 hour shifts so out of the house for 14 hours and I’m wfh and flying solo with the kids but GP just can’t be left long enough for me to shower in peace Envy (not envy)

muckandnettles · 07/08/2020 20:13

The heat has been terrible today for us all I think and I hope that's all that is wrong with your pup @Juiceey. Mucky has been very subdued because of the heat and also his teething, bless him. He is very moany and clingy today, though has a massive appetite. We had an early morning walk and just went out again now for a splash in a stream which was fun but he now stinks. @GingerAndTheBiscuits thinking of you with sympathy flying solo today - pity we don't all live near each other, isn't it? We could pup sit on a rota for each other!
@Amigodog I bought the Kong aerosol stuffing once to start with but it doesn't last long and I decided it is probably a bit like McDonalds for dogs - very moreish but not exactly healthy. My pup can't be arsed with a frozen Kong, but enjoys a lickimat or an easy puzzle feeder frozen. An unfinished frozen Kong is a bugger to clean. Please excuse language, I've just had a large gin.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 08/08/2020 00:11

Despite my earlier post, GP didn’t sleep much this evening. But she is still going strong being completely manic unless I’m throwing treats at her bed. Zzzzz.

pistachioicecream · 08/08/2020 00:20

That’s rubbish @GingerAndTheBiscuits.

We had v late walk too as just too warm earlier. Only just got her to bed. Sat in the garden with pistachiopup for half an hour or so when we got back with her munching on ice cubes. That calmed her down before bed. Really hope she calms down soon for you and you get some sleep tonight!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 08/08/2020 00:28

It must be hard on her because she has just gone to sleep...on the floor! Will see if she lasts the night there. I am twitchy about falling asleep because DH has already passed out - with his sausagey toes exposed, ripe for a restless GP to nibble on 😬 I feel like I need to be on watch!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 08/08/2020 00:29

Hope you get a decent night too @pistachioicecream

Imadreamer44 · 08/08/2020 08:47

Rubbish night here, hope yours calmed down @GingerAndTheBiscuits.
Up and down all night and loose poos this morning. She is not liking this heat at all Sad

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 08/08/2020 09:46

She was just very restless. On and off the bed all night. At one point we had to laugh at how entirely manic she looked, eyes following me around the room from the bed and then lunging the second I tried to get in. Because if we didn’t laugh, we’d cry! 7 weeks of bedtime insanity.

OwlInAnOakTree · 08/08/2020 10:18

Morning all, hope today is better for those whose pups were suffering from the heat yesterday.

OwlPup is 4 months old today! Grown and changed so much in the 10 weeks we've had him. Lots and lots to work on still, but generally he's fab. Even making progress in interactions between him and DS since seeing the trainer. Huge relief there.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 08/08/2020 10:38

Hope all ok today. The heat is not suiting the crocodile at all! She’s manic😱
