Lost dog Kingston - have I done everything I can?

Much loved springer spaniel escaped from house unnoticed, as H put out bins 11.30ish, last night. We found her missing this morning. Leaving recriminations aside here. We live in very busy area near Norbiton station in Kingston and I am losing hope, as she is fast and could be anywhere (and I suppose could have been picked up by someone not inclined to help). She was not wearing her collar as she was in bed for the night, she is chipped.

So

  • I have told all local vets
  • battersea
  • microchip company
  • local police and dog warden
  • logged on LostDog website, they have put on facebook
  • made posters, local shops and lampposts, with reward offered
-about to go for walk in Richmond Park, our usual haunt (2 miles from house tho) and will accost all dog walkers
  • her regular dog walker has tweeted and put on another facebook page

There's nothing else we can do now is there ? Advice very gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks again and for the good stories, ,Enrique, Me and Gin they are good to hear. Having a quiet day today after lots of efforts yesterday,, back on the trail tomorrow with some walking I think (no dog walk since Wed!) - Hogsmill and the cemetry, who knows.

Have you checked Coombe Wood Golf course and Kingston cemetery? they're both nearby enough for your dog to have found his way there and be hanging out, Bear Grylls style. Don't give up hope. They can keep going a long time.

Rubydoobiesmum · 23/04/2016 17:05

A gamekeepers trick - if you have had a sighting take a jumper you have worn and leave it in the area alongside a bowl of water (not food as this can attract fixes etc that may scare her off). Check frequently. Quite often they will be found sitting next to it.

Just posted this on DogLost, shamelessly pasting, as some of you are in the area. CCTV camera at Shell Garage on London Rd, by roundabout at Clifton Rd. Possible sighting 2am Wed, 3 hours after we shut her out. This is very close to home. She seems to have been heading back, as she left the forecourt and crossed the road towards the Black Horse Pub (used to be Kingston Gate Pub). It's not definitely her, but right size, we are not allowed to view, but may be able to get a photo tomorrow.

So this doesn't exactly give us a direction. Dog wasn't running, but moving fast. If only we knew what happened next. Going to the area now and the hospital with more flyers; would she really have kept going after a busy day with two walks?

giraffe we will go to the cemetery tomorrow and visit the golf course. And I love the gamekeeper's trick, tho think the (possible) sighting too long ago now. Feeling sad.

I've never had a Springer but know some & think she won't have been worn out - here is the Facebook page for English Springer Spaniel Welfare they are very good at helping with them. I hope she comes back soon.

GinBunny · 23/04/2016 17:48

Keep posting on FB - I've seen it on mine and shared. When little Paris the chiuhuaha went missing she was updating everyday so people didn't forget.
Hope you have good news soon x

iMatter · 23/04/2016 18:11

I agree - keep posting on FB. There was one particular dog missing where I live (national park) and the owners posted on the lost dogs page every day asking people to share. He was found on Friday.

I really hope you have good news soon.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 23/04/2016 18:19

Gosh really hope she turns up. Someone I know their dog bolted and came home on her own after a week.

MsMims · 23/04/2016 19:47

Possible she could have kept going, especially if panicked about being out alone and trying to find her way back. You know her best though. She could also just be very close by but has gone to ground and is hiding. I've known a missing pair of dogs to be found crouched down under a bush together, not responding to their owner's calls.

Fingers crossed she turns up soon. Have you put a reward out for her? I know this can be controversial but if someone has taken her in and taken a liking to her this may spur them on to hand her back. Also keep posters all over the area, so someone would feel too conspicuous to keep her.

Ginandtonicoclock · 24/04/2016 10:08

Bloody hell, at the petrol station! She is trying to find her way home. Out again today walking. Got the spare lead and collar with me. She will be found.

iloverhubarbcrumble · 24/04/2016 16:24

CCTV was a fox. Went to see photo of footage today. So false scent. Just back from Battersea, not there but good to go and see.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 25/04/2016 11:14

That's disappointing. Keep checking the same places, as I said up above the first time I checked Battersea I drew a blank, the dog in question was having treatment rather than being in the everyday kennels, so the enquiry was overlooked.

SnoopDoggyDogg · 25/04/2016 14:48

Any news rhubarb?

Dieu · 25/04/2016 15:38

Aww, really hope she turns up. A neighbour was telling me about her Springer the other day, and how he once disappeared for about a week.
She was advised by the vet not to give him a large meal on his return, as their stomachs shrink considerably while on the run.
Sending positive vibes your way(and I have a good feeling about it, I must admit). Flowers

iloverhubarbcrumble · 25/04/2016 22:51

No news today, nothing at all.

Wolfiefan · 25/04/2016 22:54

Hoping for better news tomorrow. X

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 25/04/2016 22:58

Fingers crossed.

iloverhubarbcrumble · 26/04/2016 07:01

Finally got a good night's sleep, we have all been like zombies. Out at work all day today tho, relentless dog searching activity is possible, but there is no limit to the things you should be doing - at the same time an awareness that she is probably dead or stolen. The good stories are nice to hear, but increasingly unlikely for little Lola. Right, must get on, as my friend would say. And thanks for good wishes

OP posts:
Toooldtobearsed · 26/04/2016 08:15

Rhubarb have been lurking in hope, what a heartbreaking situation to be in. I do not have any stories to tell, but know the feeling of blind panic if any of mine have been out of sight for a couple of minutes, so can't imagine how hard it is for you.

To be brutal, I would have thought that a dead dog would have shown up by now, particularly as yours is chipped, so there is still hope.

I sincerely hope you have news soon, anything is better than living in limbo Flowers

Ginandtonicoclock · 26/04/2016 08:36

I agree, don't give up. Still looking for over 1hr a day. You've got flyers and Facebook and emails. Lola has a chip, any vet or welfare centre will check for it. Springers have so much energy she is probably still on a jolly jaunt and has no idea the grief she is causing

KindDogsTail · 26/04/2016 10:29

We are still hoping and hoping for Lola's safe return here too.

iMatter · 26/04/2016 16:52

Please don't give up hope.

I have been checking in every day, hoping for good news. I really hope she comes home soon.

Sparklywine · 26/04/2016 18:17

Checking in every day hoping for good news too, wish I was nearer to help you look. You seem very strong. Please let there be lovely news soon Flowers

iloverhubarbcrumble · 26/04/2016 21:39

Very kind people, I feel better now. Still no dog. Local highways say no reports (this is good news obv). She seems to be trending (slightly) on Thunderclap, which I have never heard of before. Lola's dog walker is going all out on social media,as are altruistic strangers. I'm trying for Surrey Comet now, as I think there's a whole lot of people who don't go anywhere near facebook but read the local paper. And I still think someone has her.

I like the idea of 1 hour/day. I think you mean you r walking 1 h/day g&t, but I'm taking it as my target, 1h Lola looking activities then stop. And toooldtobearsed (great name) agree re dead dog. Brutal is good I think. Anything is better than never knowing. It is nearly a full week since we lost her, 11pm tonight.
