Lost dog Kingston - have I done everything I can?

Much loved springer spaniel escaped from house unnoticed, as H put out bins 11.30ish, last night. We found her missing this morning. Leaving recriminations aside here. We live in very busy area near Norbiton station in Kingston and I am losing hope, as she is fast and could be anywhere (and I suppose could have been picked up by someone not inclined to help). She was not wearing her collar as she was in bed for the night, she is chipped.

So

  • I have told all local vets
  • battersea
  • microchip company
  • local police and dog warden
  • logged on LostDog website, they have put on facebook
  • made posters, local shops and lampposts, with reward offered
-about to go for walk in Richmond Park, our usual haunt (2 miles from house tho) and will accost all dog walkers
  • her regular dog walker has tweeted and put on another facebook page

There's nothing else we can do now is there ? Advice very gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

Checked Richmond Park this morning from 7.30am- 9am from Ladderstile to Pembroke Lodge, no sign of her. Will go to Isabella Plantation later and will check there. Fingers crossed

Ginandtonicoclock · 21/04/2016 16:14

Sorry should be clear, wasn't being entirely altruistic, I was walking my dogs Blush

MsMims · 21/04/2016 16:19

Hope she has turned up today!

If not, make her too hot to handle for anyone with unkind intentions. Get her poster everywhere and flyers through as many doors as possible.

When was her chip last checked to be working?

Dog lost has a huge following and lots of kind people usually willing to go out to look for your dog or put up posters. People also cross reference the lost and found dogs on there.

Not everyone has heard of microchips, and to check for one someone has to go to the effort of taking them to a vet/ rescue. When she is (hopefully) home it will do her no harm to have her collar on all the time. Mine wear collars 24/7 for this reason.

Updating to say still no news. Just got in from work, left early as I can't think straight, looking out the windows of SW trains on the way home as we trundled through N Malden for a little white body! Must say I think we won't find her now, but not giving up yet.

Had a possible sighting today at Kingston Uni, but it was the wrong dog. But comforting, someone took the trouble to ring me. Tomorrow will visit rescues I think, several people have suggested going in person. And will read through all the ideas here again. I think we have covered alot of these now, and local pet shop Woofs a Daisy is going all out to help, as has DogLost online.

MsMims, I think you are pressing my 'if only we had...' buttons in your last para, but you make good points, perhaps other people will learn from our misfortune (or negligence). On a lighter note, I am glad the g&t brigade is out, even if not altruistic it is great to know that possible areas are being covered by other people. You are ALL very kind. So thank you.

I was in New Malden Vets today and saw your poster
Don't give up, will keep an eye out over this way for you Flowers

Floralnomad · 21/04/2016 17:43

Don't give up hope it's still early days , have you set up a Facebook page specifically for her ,if not it may be worth doing ( it worked for a dog stolen near us although they did have to pay to get him back ) , also have you contacted Murphys Army as they also locate lost animals . I assume you have rung round the police stations

hesterton · 21/04/2016 17:47

MsMims · 21/04/2016 17:49

Ilove not my intention at all, sorry if it came across that way! I've had missing cats before and was absolutely beside myself, so can sympathise completely. Just thought it worth mentioning that she'll be fine if you leave her collar on, even at bedtime.

Don't give up, one of my neighbours dogs was missing for a week before being found Flowers

GinIsIn · 21/04/2016 17:51

The other thing that's worth doing is taking posters/fliers round to all the local vets? Hope you find each other again soon!

Ginandtonicoclock · 21/04/2016 19:41

Got everything crossed. No what ifs, it was an unfortunate incident.

Checking every dog walk, so that's minimum 1hr per day in dog related areas.

Ooh, just thought will check by the river tmrw. I often see scatty dogs lost down there, (too much badger and fox activity) in fact the last one was a brown and white springer.

Wolfiefan · 21/04/2016 19:43

I'm so sorry. Hoping for good news soon.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 21/04/2016 19:58

Have you contacted groups like Spaniel Aid and Lost and Found Spaniels. My heart goes out to you, I hope her safe and well.

StillYummy · 21/04/2016 20:00

A friend of mine lost a dog, over a month later it was handed in to the vet. The man who found him within hours of him going missing didn't get round to taking him to the vet till then, he had just like pled after him with the rest of his dogs. Anyway the dog was well and happy all that time, while my friend end was distraught.

iMatter · 21/04/2016 20:03

I have nothing to add OP other than to say I'm so sorry you're going through this and sending big hugs. Fingers crossed.

KindDogsTail · 21/04/2016 23:44

Hopes and finger crossing still going on here too.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 22/04/2016 10:17

Sending good vibes Op, hope you get some good news soon.

WeAllHaveWings · 22/04/2016 14:12

is this facebook page near you Kingston Lost and Found

SnoopDoggyDogg · 22/04/2016 14:25

I think that page is for Kingston in Australia. I really hope the dog hasn't got that far away so soon.

SnoopDoggyDogg · 22/04/2016 14:27

Hope your dog turns up safe and very soon. I panic if I lose sight of mine for two minutes when we're out walking.

iloverhubarbcrumble · 22/04/2016 15:08

No, probably not in Australia. Have just had an unexpected 'sighting' via someone chilling in local shisha cafe, who said rather definitely that he saw her running about in 'Tolworth Park' when he was playing football on Wed. Clarified he means one of the parks off Alexandra Rd; think we will drive over late afternoon with some flyers. I'm sure it was just a random springer off lead, so not getting any hopes up.

Good day today in terms of getting things done. Still no dog.

Fingers crossed it's her Crumble.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 22/04/2016 20:34

I'm willing her to come home.

To give you heart we've twice found lost dogs. Once via the Dog Warden who'd handed in to Battersea - note, on first enquiry they said no, but we kept trying and it turned out he had indeed been handed in there, so the lesson was to keep on asking.

The other time was back in the mists of time, pre internet of even mobile phones. My new B/F, now DH's, family pet escaped on a walk and ran away. FiL put an advert in the local paper and eventually about 10 days later a lady rang and said she'd been on the top deck of a bus and thought she'd see him in the grounds of a local school. She had and a rescue was effected.

MeMySonAndl · 22/04/2016 20:48

Keep checking the dog warden, they may have had it returned after you last checked.

I have lost dogs in two occasions, one we could never find, the other one was returned to us after 4 - 5 weeks.

My current dog was found as a stray. She looked like she had spent a while on her own, then spent 2 weeks at the dogs warden before being transferred to the RSPCA. I was fostering her for almost 3 months before they allowed me to adopt her. I really don't know anything about her past, but she is so friendly and affectionate that I think she was a very much loved pet. We couldn't find her previous owners but we are taking very good care of her.

I'm sure there should be someone out there trying to find you, while taking good care of your pet. Don't loose hope yet.

iloverhubarbcrumble · 22/04/2016 22:32

Thanks again for these hopeful stories. No sign of her in the tolworth park I went to, pouring with rain, met a few concerned dog walkers who took flyers. But had no news of a springer.

Excellent advice memyson.

My childhood young dog, bolted on a dog walk, came rushing back, didn't check traffic, got run over in soft snow, we saw her rolll under the wheels.

She ran off, in blizzard conditions. For three days we waited for news. She had bolted, run 5 miles and had hidden in a shed. We heard nothing for 3 days.

BUT, the shed she picked was next door neighbours with the police officer we reported the missing dog to.

She was young with bendy bones, we took her to the vets, she was unscathed 4 days later. Lived to ripe old age. Don't give up just yet.
