Irish wolfhounds and "one day I'll have one" dogs

I'm in love. Was at a garden show thing today and there were two different ones. They were so beautiful and chilled and HUGE. I used to think my golden was big! It's really not practical for me to have one now but really hope to one day.

Any dog on your "one day I'll have one" list?

A miniature dachshund whom I shall name Daphne.

BabyGanoush · 06/06/2015 18:44

DH dreams of a deerhound or wolfhound.

We have a deerhound cross lurcher, but she is smooth as crossed with a grey and looks almost totally greyhound.

Lovely character though. So soft. And a beauty.

Our next one may be a fluffy lurcher (like a "mini" wolfhound/deerhound, well how mini would they be though if crossed with a grey Grin)

ditavonteesed · 06/06/2015 18:48

whippet called willow
dalmation called dotty
Weimeraner called ghost.

The whippet I will get in a couple of years, the other 2 are pipe dream dogs.

insanityscatching · 06/06/2015 18:51

Poodle, I really wanted a poodle when we had Eric who is a poodle cross but dh wasn't keen. Our next dog will be a poodle with a silly haircut I am determined.

mousmous · 06/06/2015 18:54

dogue de bordeaux
will never happen as allergic and don't have the time to adequately care for a pet

villainousbroodmare · 06/06/2015 19:07

Red setter is the least snappy dog on the face of the planet, Sgt Major! Same cannot be said for a Sheltie though!

BitterChocolate · 06/06/2015 19:21

There's a thread on here where people have put up pictures of their dogs, and one of them is a jackahuahua (jrt Chihuahua cross), and it's the cutest thing ever. I would love one.

I have a Glen of Imaal terrier, and he is great with a lovely temperament but I think I would go smaller next time.

Sgtmajormummy · 06/06/2015 19:22

Thanks for the input villanous and moose, I'll keep on dreaming...

moosemama · 06/06/2015 19:36

Bitter Glen of Imaal's are so cute and pretty rare in this country. I love all the Irish terriers - I used to have a Soft Coated Wheaten and she was a real character, but so clever and easy to train. Smile

Here's the gorgeous Toller we babysit

Ooh he looks lovely hopping, I do agility and show my cocker too. A toller would fit right in in a few years time!

NickiFury · 06/06/2015 20:03

Tervuren or Groenendael Belgian Shepherd.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/06/2015 20:09

Rottweiler. I love the look of them, but a little scared I wouldng be in control as they look so powerful. I'm wistful when I come across one being walked.

Hoppinggreen · 06/06/2015 20:16

We proper luffs hm Heni always a bit sad when he goes he but we know he's not ours and his owner is fantastic.
Fingers crossed she's off on holiday soon!!!!

Ilovenannyplum · 06/06/2015 20:32

Bulldog
Westie DP wants to call him George

CandyAppleFudge · 06/06/2015 20:36

Mousmous-I've got 2 of them, they're a lovely breed. Mad as a box of frogs but lovely Grin

sweetkitty · 06/06/2015 20:40

Newfoundland absolutely love them but not very practical just now

I have a gorgeous Rhodesian ridgeback and am trying to convince DH we need another

StarsInTheNightSky · 06/06/2015 22:19

My dogs! I have two Caucasian Ovcharkas, they were my dream dogs and owning them is even more amazing.
Best breed I've ever known with children, so careful, patient and gentle, not at all lumbering or clumsy despite their size. Our two are calm, soppy hearth rugs with DH, DS and I, but will happily roar and rage at bears and mountain lions (we're not in the UK), we've never had better bodyguards.

JohnCusacksWife · 06/06/2015 22:37

I just love bog standard mutts. Given the choice of all the pedigrees in the world I'd choose a mutt every time. And the best one in the world is sleeping at my feet at the moment!

stars WHERE do you live??

I forgot Tollers. They're so lovely but I don't think there are any breeders at all in the country I live in.
Would also love a German shephard
I would also love a really golden Golden Retriever, like an American Golden. My boy is really cream coloured.

One day I'd like an Italian spinone.

EasyToEatTiger · 07/06/2015 08:49

I'd go for a wolfhound too if they didn't start dying almost as they are grown up.

ancientbuchanan · 07/06/2015 13:51

Just met an entrancing IG thus am. Fell in love all over again.

IsadoraQuagmire · 07/06/2015 15:48

An endless list, but just before I read this I was Googling photos of Briards and sighing over them.
(When I was 14 I had a boyfriend whose dad had 7 Irish Wolfhounds, it was great fun taking them all for a walk at once)

AnitaManeater · 14/06/2015 22:07

I acquired my dream dog a couple months ago, a show type English Setter. It took a long time and a lot of money but he is just perfect. Setters are the least snappy dogs you could ever meet!
