Now i know most people on here are responsible dog owners who pick up EVERY time.

BUT on a forum of this size, there must be at least one person who is willing to admit it, and explain why.

I just dont get why you would leave your dog poo in the street.

im surprised that there isnt one owner willing to stand up

No one is going to say they don't pick up in the street as you have to legally without getting a fine.

Plenty of folks will say they don't pick up in the middle of the country where all the cow/bird/deer/fox shit is.

This has been raised before on other threads and no-one ever comes forward - although, as you say, on a forum this size there must be at least one skanky midden person who doesn't. I'd love to know why some people don't pick up too. The last person I challenged said that "dog poo is biodegradeable, and until the horse owners round here start picking up then I won't". She wasn't interested in hearing my explanation

I always pick up in the street, or even anywhere near a countryside path.

I don't pick up in the middle of a wood, out of the way or anywhere where any possible human contact could realistically made. Sure that National Trust have a 'flick a stick' policy.

Interestingly, I was walking the dog over the local golf course today, I am friendly with the green keeper after I found his dog once, and I know the course is closed anyway due to the rain. He saw my poo bag and asked why the hell I had picked it up, when his machines (no idea what the terminology is for golf course keeping machines!) will 'sort it' anyway.

Think the more rural you are (we are), the less folk are too fussed if it's not on the street etc.

Can I emphasise that I ALWAYS PICK UP ON THE STREET, before I get shot down!!

I don't pick up if I'm in the middle of a large ploughed field, I bury it. I do the same off path in woodland. If the ground is soft enough to bur it I do otherwise I bag it.

You may as well demand people come and give you a good reason for dropping litter.

It's because some people are dicks.

I always pick up in the street or an a path, but in the woods or on rough ground I tend to stick and flick into the hedgerow. People that let their dogs shit in the street should have their faces rubbed in it, imo. Filthy beasts.

The only time I don't pick up is if my dog does it in the middle of tall undergrowth and that's purely because it would be impossible to find and I'd probably tread in loads of other shit whilst getting to it . What annoys me more is people who pick it up and then leave it laying about in the plastic bag, or hanging on tree.

yes but i always see it on the street, so it must be someones dog. There are very few strays in my area, yet EVERY day there is fresh dog poo to dodge.

I cant believe that people are so brazen to leave it, but not thick skinned enough to admit it.

I hope none of the people on this threads are Scots, as in Scotland it is an offence to not pick up after your dog, except on agricultural land.

As long as it's a long way off the footpath then , but there are too many dog owers round our way for whom 'just beside' the path is sufficient, forgetting that people (esp. children) don't always stick rigidly to the footpath. Scraping dog shit off shoes/carpets/pram wheels/clothes must be one of the most disgusting and wholly unneccsary tasks there is.

Can't help you myself, but I know DH doesn't pick it up if he thinks he can leave it me because it's disgusting, I mean, it's poo, How could Anyone pick it up .

He is learning.

Next door to us is a flat which is rented. The occupant has two large dogs which he never takes out for walks. His garden is paved. The dogs shit all over it. He clears it up maybe once a week. Last night there were 24 separate piles of crap. Disgusting.

i dont care if you have dog poo up to your windows in your own garden.

I agree that i think its one of the worst things about owning a dog and is the number one reason why i dont have a dog even though i love them.

i did once see a man taking his dog for a newpaper, when the dog stooped to go, he deftly slid the newspaper underneath then chucked the whole thing in the bin! he had to go back for another one!

maybe he had forgotten his poo bags? I did once, and was dancing around the poo, wondering what to do and feeling dreadful, until an obliging fellow dog owner appeared with supplies!

I have country dogs and mainly walk on farmland. So not guilty here. If in the local park, I bag and bin it.

But pensioners? Maybe older people don't pick up? Or, sometimes people just don't notice their dog doing it if chatting to someone or on the phone. Maybe accounts for a number which aren't picked up.

My dog once had REALLY bad diarrhea, I'd no idea what she'd eaten but I buried it-it wasn't on a path or anywhere anybody would stand on it.

I was standing there thinking WTF do I do with THAT?!It was like liquid poo. I covered it in leaves and mud.

But apart from that one time,always pick up. I've taught her where to poo on our regular walks, so I know there's a bin nearby and she's still on the leash, but I do worry if she runs far away from the path and I can't see what she's doing, as she occasionally poos more than her usual places. But all in all, I'm conscientious. I've said it before but theres' been times I've gone to pick up after her and have picked up another dog's poo by mistake. There's tonnes of poo on grass verges and at the side of the path in parks. I can forgive peopel who miss it/forget bags occasionally but some people must be lax on it. And it does piss me off!

You tend to see more shit on pavements in winter. I remember someone saying that in winter dog owners have to take their dogs for walks in the dark therefore if the dog does a poo they can't see it to pick it up. It kind of makes sense - "oh, I can't see anything, did they actually poo, or did they stop to wee?" And they leave it. It's no excuse as they could take a torch.

And yes I've forgotten bags before. I once went in the bin got out an empty crisp packet and used that!

As the driver(?pusher?) of a pram I hope there is a special place in hell reserved for those who don't pick up in the local park and on the footpaths and pavements round here. It's a right PITA. Toddlers also like to collect things, such as twigs, stones etc. So if its not wheel scraping and washing it's screaming 'mind the poo' at the top of my voice and trying to prevent toddler standing in it/falling over in it/picking up that really pretty leaf right fucking next to it. Get's me most vexed.

I do not own a dog.

I almost always pick up - even if in fields, as it I walk my dog there, it is likely that others do too, so there is still a risk of someone standing in it. The only time I would not pick up is if it was in the middle of undergrowth which I could not easily access.

What I also cannot understand is the number of full poo bags you see lying about all over the place. Why bother picking up if you are not going to bin it?

I would if my dog went on pavements, he refuses to, I do if he poos anywhere where people walk but if he shoves his arse right into a bramble bush then no, I can't reach it so I assume no one else can.
Funnily enough where i live there seems to be very little dog poo left where people walk, I think I've seen one poo on the pavement in the last year. Do we live in a very well mannered area or are the local dog wardens scary?
