if you dont pick up your dog poo....

pollyputthekettleonagain · 23/01/2014 12:51

can you please tell me why?

Now i know most people on here are responsible dog owners who pick up EVERY time.

BUT on a forum of this size, there must be at least one person who is willing to admit it, and explain why.

I just dont get why you would leave your dog poo in the street.

The OP has explained what she's trying to achieve - she wants someone to explain why they don't pick up. Seems reasonable.

Well yes it's a reasonable ask. Grin

But why does she want an explanation.

I'm all for a rant and all, but now I need to know why.

Why damnit why?

You might as well ask why are we here Honey, what is the meaning of it all?

Personally I would like someone to come along, give some pathetic reason about how it's their right to leave their mutt's shit on the pavement so that I can reach through cyberspace, grab them by the throat and rub their face in dog poo have a stern word with them about their actions,

SirChenjin

Well that's why I was tacitly asking.

I'm not sure I should be posting on a thread where there is a strong possibility of murder if the op gets the right respondent.

I'm kind of thinking there probably wouldn't actually be murder Honey Grin

Don't own a dog, don;t know but would hazard a guess sheer fucking laziness has a lot to do with it.

We have a country park wooded area in our small town with a car park at one entrance. In the weeks leading up to Christmas the path was foul - quite clearly lazy-assed dog-owners had been driving up, letting their dogs run into the park to do their business, calling them back and driving off again.

Town Council sent someone along to administer some spot fines, obviously word got around, park is currently clear of shit and a delight, though presumably the lazy fucks are making somewhere else a shithole.

As a runner I must say all these people who say 'Ooh I don't do anything about shit in the undergrowth I only bother to pick up if it is on the path' make me wild too. Some of us do run off-road y'know especially in National Parks and access land. It is still foul and it is still your responsibility and if it is too dark and too difficult to retrieve your dog's shit from wherever s/he did it you have not been supervising it closely enough or should keep it on a lead. Lazy scum the lot of you.

There are 2 good dog walking parks near to me. The nearest is forestry commision woodland with way marked paths and the other is in the grounds/parkland of a NTrust house.
The Forestry commision place is revolting, piles and piles of shit everywhere and it seems that any one who does pick up, just leaves the bag in a tree. I have stopped going there.
The Ntrust place - heaving with dogs and owners, never see any shite un-picked up. Clearly marked poo bins, clearly marked off-lead, on-lead and dog free areas.
I have 2 dogs, always pick up after them [even when it takes 5 poo bags and a whole packet of handie-andies- thanks pup] and walk at the NT place almost every day.

No idea about why there is such a diff in 2 places not 3 miles apart....

I always pick up and I often take my dog at 5am when no one is around and still I pick up and I even have a mini torch which I keep in my dog walking bag to find the poo if necessary - I hate poo on my shoes/trainers/boots and today was walking my dog and there were at least 4 poos at the side of the pavement where although there are leaves my dog wants to walk so I am constantly pulling him away - there is no excuse.

Can I just add another thing that drives me mad though is expecting us owners to scoop but the council providing no bins in the locality - some councils have red bins, where I live they don't there are just general bins - fair enough but 2 areas that I walk in elsewhere have no bins and I really don't want to take it home in the car with me nor drive a mile to a public bin.

Love that there is 3 whole pages on dog shit!

I always scoop, and would anywhere, countryside or town. I have a 2 year old who loves foraging and poking about and picking interesting bits of stuff up, and I would hate to think of her or any other child putting their hands in DOG SHIT!! Ugh, is there anything worse (other than cat shit!)? Granted there is cow pats and so on in the countryside but I know which I'd rather stand in

My dog is very polite and will back into a bush or a patch of nettles to do his business. I can't even reach the poo, let alone pick it up.
Certainly if he pooed in the middle of the pavement or a grass verge i would pick it up, i always have poo bags with ne just in case.
Thankfully its only happened once in 4 years.

Perhaps this is the thread to pose my question. How do you all deal with loose poo? I pick up after mine all the time but hes had a dicky tummy lately and its leaving a....smear on the pavement. Yuck. I do usually have a bottle of water with me to squirt at offending smear and wash it away but sometimes I forget it or DD drinks it and im left red faced on the pavement. Hmm.

Smeary poo is grim - but at least you try and wash it away. I watched one of our neighbours clear up after her dog outside our front garden, leaving a big streak of the stuff - only for DS1 to skateboard through it

I pick up in streets, in woods, wherever she craps in fact. Mainly because I think that kids, like mine, want to trek in the woods sometimes and go off-path. I would hate to think my dog was responsible for some kid getting ticked off for stepping in shite or being hated by some mom or dad for leaving it behind. I have left it twice in 2 years. Once she'd gone down a slope to poo and I couldn't get down to where it was safely. I just have to keep my fingers crossed kids wouldn't go down there either. The second time was in a wood in autumn. She pooed, I took my eye off the small pile for a minute and then spent 20 minutes looking for it. It's amazing how well caramel coloured poop blends in with fallen, autumnal leaves!

I loathe people who don't pick up. I have picked up poop from the middle of the street on occasions that didn't belong to my dog, just cos I couldn't bear the thought of a little un stepping in it on the way to school.

I pick up every time, I even clamber into undergrowth. If it's messy Blush I grab a bunch of leaves first with the bag, then the poo.

I live in an area where I counted 15 poos, some massive and almost all in a very obvious place on a very busy canal pavement.

I don't get it, it's disgusting, I don't want my dog treading in it let alone another walker, pram or child etc.

randomfemale · 23/01/2014 21:19

My dog is very fussy about where she goes her preferred place is the patch of gravel just outside our front door (which I shovel and bin daily) but if she needs to go when we're out walking she buggers off under some shrubbery so I don't go and pick it up cos there is sod all chance of anyone stepping in it there. She has never ever pooed on a pavement or even in an open field. Must have had a repressed up-bringing Grin

Having moved to the suburbs after living in a city centre I am horrified by the amount of poo on the streets, and more so now I am pushing a pram and have to sometimes do some very odd manouvers to avoid it - am dreading toddlerhood...
We live on a street where the front gardens aren't fenced off and someone had been letting their dog poo on our lawn. I put up a note on our tree asking them to stop doing it, otherwise I'd have to get cctv to report them to the dog warden. Well the poo stopped until... we have a pickup and one night we left the back uncovered and I suspect the dog owner decided to get their revenge and chucked their poo bag into the back of our car. What I can't believe is that they clearly were offended by my objection and do feel it was their right to let their dog poo on my lawn.

I am very particular about picking up after my dog too, but.... my very old lab would often drop one or two randomly as she was walking along. I always walked behind her so they weren't missed, but when DCs were babies a neighbour used to sometimes take her out for a walk to help me out. I did notice once to my horror that despite my warning she did not watch and missed it, so I'm sure a few were my dogs. After that I always picked up abandoned poo's on the street/path 'just in case'!

Also I think it is just a very few people who do leave poo, and pretty much always the same ones, if you think over a month that's 30+ poos! I know of 2 people round here - don't have children themselves - who never pick up after their dogs.

Sometimes in the park when their dogs are off lead, people just pretend they haven't seen their dog poo, when you know full well they have (even if not, they should be watching). Would you offer them a bag if you saw that happen?

And my final comment, or more of a question really, what about old people? A really lovely old man used to live in my street and shuffled along each day with his little dog, there is no way he could have bent down to pick up her poo. As it happens the dog owning neighbours always used to look out for his little dogs ones and would pick them up, but I'm sure it is not like this for all neighbourhoods.

I always pick up even if in the country fields or in a wood. Just like someone previously mentioned, if I am walking in that area there is a good chance some else will.
My Uncle has a farm and many dog walkers use his fields to walk around. Unfortunately they don't pick up either much to the annoyance of my uncle who often steps in it when checking fences etc.
Our village has got an anti dog fouling group as it is such a big problem here. Posters were put up in problem areas but someone kept taking them down!! The walk to school is always a challenge, like an obstacle course.

You can buy long handled dog shit scoopers, so no excuse not to pick up if you can't bend down

Report
DUSTIN · 23/01/2014 21:44

For elderly owners there are 'poop scoop' contraptions available with long handles to help them pick up after their dog.
