Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound).

Share advice, stories and shopping tips!

I didn?t really want you,
I wasn?t really sure,
And I?ll admit I had my doubts,
When you first came through that door.

Not small, or cute, or fluffy,
With big, soft puppy eyes,
But tall, and thin, and bony,
With bald, pink, bulging thighs.

You weren?t the kind I had in mind,
Not in any way,
?Perhaps it would be better if I took you back today,
Before we know each other,
It really won?t be kind,
To keep you here for one more day,
And then to change my mind.?

But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay,
And quickly I discovered you were kind in every way,
Your gentleness and patience, they really stole the show,
?Why these dogs are wonderful, I must let others know!?

For you?re my gentle giant,
Who just needed the chance,
To show us all what you could be,
To wipe away that history,
And dispel our preconceptions, which put us all to shame,
And so we come to know and love,
What lies beneath that frame.

And now I?ve come to understand,
What I missed right at the start,
That greyhounds need that great deep chest,
To house their great big hearts!
:)

Ooh vw beetle, lovely, what colour is it?

Forgot to tell you what Sprocket did on saturday! DP and I went out for a meal as DD stayed over at MILs for the night, earlier in the day I'd been to the petshop and bought him 4 pigs ears. Gave him one as we were going out and left the others in what I thought was an impossible to get to place, on the dining table, right at the back, the only way to get to them if you're as small as a dog, would be to climb on the table which is also impossible as it's covered in crap, general junk and piles of washing. On one side of the back of the table is DDs highchair and on the other side are 2 boxes with the stair gate wedged open blocking that way. We got home and I noticed they'd gone. NO IDEA how he managed to get them. Nothing on the table had been disturbed, the highchair hadn't moved, neither had the boxe,s and the stairgate was still wedged open.

There's only one answer really. He's a ninja.

TheCunnyFunt · 25/07/2012 09:39

Oh meant to add, DPs youngest brother who is 17 on friday, bought his first car a few weeks ago, a classic mini, nearly 25 years old! It's gorgeous, purple and sparkly :o and DPs oldest younger brother (20) has also just bought a classic mini, it is stored in their garage, and also in their shed :o it's going to be british racing green when he's finished rebuilding it.

Scuttlebutter · 25/07/2012 10:07

All these gorgeous cars... Smile

Well, I am in need of a stiff gin. Our Norty Minx escaped. Shock

We have an effective "airlock" system when I go out with the other two, but when I came back this morning, she whipped past Boola as we were coming back into the house (he dawdles terribly).

I threw the boys into the house, slammed the door and chased after her. She trotted round the corner into the next cul-de-sac (we live on a new build estate) sniffing merrily. Thank God she didn't meet any cats.

Then she alighted on a family who were obviously packing to go on holiday. People carrier on the drive, children being strapped in back, boot full of stuff, and a big pile fo coolbags and foil covered dishes on the drive. This was too much temptation, and she jumped into their car Shock Blush

Family understandably very surprised, cue DC cries of "Mummy, what's the dog doing?" and Mum not impressed - told me she was allergic to dogs. I was hugely apologetic, I don't normally make a habit of letting my dog get into strange cars, grabbed her and marched her home. Now feeling v wobbly. Phew!

TheCunnyFunt · 25/07/2012 11:01

Bloody hell Scuttle! Shock It's also a good job she didn't bump into any entire males! I can't believe she did that, I think you've got your hands full with her. Mischievous little monkey!

BehindLockNumberNine · 25/07/2012 12:58

Blimey Scuttle!! She is definately destined to give you a few grey hairs!!

Great fun though, what a character!

Berris · 25/07/2012 13:31

Our two got out, due to my DDs and the neighbours' DCs leaving the flipping back gate open, despite us bellowing GATE every time they depart the garden for the bit out the back (which is private, but there's no gate to the road from the driveway!). Both dogs helped themselves to some poo space in the neighbours' garden (where the DCs are from).

I'd like to say I was mortified but.....!

MagratGarlik · 25/07/2012 14:57

Blimey Scuttle, that was close!

The beetle is a dark green colour. My ideal would be to have a pretty pink convertible, but this one is also nice (even if I can't fit both dogs and children in).

TheCunnyFunt · 25/07/2012 15:18

NCOT! My local greyhound rescue have a chat group on FB, and the guy that runs the charity has posted a photo of Westmead Hawk meeting his waxwork at Madame Tussauds :o

MissBetseyTrotwood · 25/07/2012 16:28

Ha ha Berris they won't be doing that again will they! The DCs that is, not the dogs!

Whoa there Scuttle that gal has spirit. At least the food was there - it seemed to limit her, er, road trip!

Nice car Magrat. Our family cars were always classic Beetles and they all smelt the same? Or am I imagining it? Sort of enginey and polishy.

Cunny Westmead Hawk? Is that a dog? He sounds like a sort of folk singer. Or the next Justin Bieber or something!

TheCunnyFunt · 25/07/2012 16:52

:o Betsey Westmead Hawk is NCOTs hounds dad, he's a stunning black greyhound :o

MagratGarlik · 25/07/2012 18:45

Thanks, betsey. Yes, I think they do all smell the same. Slightly engine fumey (dp always tries to claim the excess fumes adle my brain).

MissBetseyTrotwood · 25/07/2012 20:36

We used to jump up and down on the roof of ours (classic bright orange) and it would ping us up a bit as it popped back into shape. Blush Then we got a silver one and it wasn't so much fun or so pingy.

My parents' theory of parenting was one of benign neglect!

MissBetseyTrotwood · 25/07/2012 20:39

And if it's addled your brain think what it did to mine and my brothers as babies/children! We sniffed those cars. The pre silver ones did have peculiarly sticky seats too.

I might get rid of the Octavia now. It's a bit boring. Grin

MagratGarlik · 25/07/2012 21:31

Ah, we have the boring family car too (Audi A4 estate, it is the epitomy of dull) - we used to have one of the modern Beetles to go with the classic one, but we had to get rid of that when lurchergirl came to us as we couldn't fit two hounds in the back. Actually before we adopted whippetty we had to check him for ability to fit in the boot of the car Grin - luckily he passed that test.

Your parents sound like they were cool though, Betsey!

TheCunnyFunt · 25/07/2012 21:48

My mums car is the same age as me :o a volvo 940. It was really weird, my mum had a dream about a dark blue J reg volvo, and the next month the green volvo died and we got a dark blue J reg volvo Shock my parents love volvo's, this is the 3rd/4th one we've had since as long as my sister can remember and she's 25 next month! Had the blue one about 15 years now, and it's done well over 200, 000 miles and still going strong!

Old cars are the bestest really.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 26/07/2012 07:31

Oh, I like them too. Our neighbours have an ancient Merc and it's so roomy and comfortable. It also fits 3 car seats in the back no probs! Is your mum psychic Cunny ?

My parents were a bit 'different' Magrat! I wonder what ours will be saying about us in 30 years time!

Scuttlebutter · 27/07/2012 11:49

Sorry to bring the thread back down to earth with a bump, but Andy and Norty Minx have just had their first hump. Sigh. No actual penetration, thank goodness, just a quick mount and some enthusiastic thrusting. He is now lying on his bed looking knackered (hasn't yet demanded a bacon sandwich or said "I''ll call you in the morning, gotta run" Wink).

To really brighten things up, our nephews (aged 9 and 7) are coming next weekend - I think we are going to have a lot of "Aunty Scuttle, what are the two dogs doing?" conversations..... Hmmmmm. Grin

MissBetseyTrotwood · 27/07/2012 12:03

Ha ha! We've always used the 'She's giving him a piggyback' thing when we've been to the zoo. Might not wash with older ones though!

How come Boola's not getting in on the action? Just not interested? That Norty Minx has really blazed into Andy's life - wild swimming, escaping, sex... No wonder the poor chap's exhausted!

Scuttlebutter · 27/07/2012 12:43

Darling Boola seems to be taking a regally detached view - of course, he is that much older (he'll be 13 in February). But it's very typical of him - he is just SO laid back and chilled. Andy isn't! Interestingly, Blush I think Boola is a very typical Aquarian and Andy is also a very typical Aries - astrology for dogs, there, my secret is out.

All three are now scattered around upstairs catching up with zzz.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 27/07/2012 13:18

Mmm. I can imagine Billy wouldn't be very laid back either. Family thing? What's 17th January then? That's Billy's birthday. We found that out after we adopted him - both the DSs were born on the 17th of the month too!

It might be worth a phone call to find out how much the DNephews know about that stuff. Our old guinea pigs (both chaps) humped each other all the time. We had my neighbour's son over once and I was giving the 'piggyback' explanation and he was just like 'Meh, they're having sex. Gay sex.' He would have been 10 at the time. I was Shock but apparently DH reckons he knew it all at that age!

Scuttlebutter · 27/07/2012 16:41

I've already emailed SIL to give her a heads-up on the situation, so she can prepare the boys. Obviously, we're quite happy to answer questions but I didn't want us to be in the situation of inadvertently saying the wrong thing.

Hump no 2 has taken place al fresco, by the side of the pond, in full view of the neighbours' DC, who have a trampoline that overlooks our garden Angry.

BehindLockNumberNine · 27/07/2012 17:25

Scuttle, I am sorry but I can't help but laugh at the utter chaos Norty Minx is causing in your household!!

What did your SIL say when you warned her???

On the subject of cars, I really really fancy an old beetle now...

We have a Kia Soul, which even though it is a four door family car (and a Kia to boot) it is actually quite a funky square boxy looking thing. Downside of boxy is the lack of large grund-accomodating boot!!

I am absolutely knackered. Walked Sam for near on an hour this morning (have been doing one long walk early in the morning these last few warm days) and then spent three (count them, 1, 2, 3!!) hours walking dogs at CCGT. Great fun though. A large group of us volunteers took a group of dogs for a 45 minute on-lead walk through the woods. I had the lovely Ellie (the girlie we walked on teh GBGW)
Then once we came back we spent a few hours walking the remaining dogs round the field at CCGT.
And then, once all other volunteers had gone home Ollie, Ems and I got to take Kiera and her remaining puppy Poppy out in the field for a romp. Gorgeous, both of them!

Legs now ache and I am soooooo tired! Loved every minute though Grin !!

TheCunnyFunt · 27/07/2012 17:39

Seems norty minx is something of a wild child :o what did SIL say Scuttle? All 3 upstairs eh? You'll want to keep an eye on them if they're all together Wink Shock :o

Look at this awesome dog!

MissBetseyTrotwood · 28/07/2012 19:27

Vair glad Billy wasn't here last night. Did you see the fireworks at the end of the ceremony? The long line of fireworks that led up to the stadium is one of the places we walk together - a straight line down the towpath of the canal. Wondered why it had been shut for so long! Grin

Any more to report Scuttle ? Let us know what the DNs made of it all!!!

MissBetseyTrotwood · 28/07/2012 19:28

And yes Cunny he is awesome.

Erm... do you spend a lot of time on Greyhound Data?

Geek. Wink
