Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound).

I didn?t really want you,
I wasn?t really sure,
And I?ll admit I had my doubts,
When you first came through that door.

Not small, or cute, or fluffy,
With big, soft puppy eyes,
But tall, and thin, and bony,
With bald, pink, bulging thighs.

You weren?t the kind I had in mind,
Not in any way,
?Perhaps it would be better if I took you back today,
Before we know each other,
It really won?t be kind,
To keep you here for one more day,
And then to change my mind.?

But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay,
And quickly I discovered you were kind in every way,
Your gentleness and patience, they really stole the show,
?Why these dogs are wonderful, I must let others know!?

For you?re my gentle giant,
Who just needed the chance,
To show us all what you could be,
To wipe away that history,
And dispel our preconceptions, which put us all to shame,
And so we come to know and love,
What lies beneath that frame.

And now I?ve come to understand,
What I missed right at the start,
That greyhounds need that great deep chest,
To house their great big hearts!
:)

Ooh we're on the last page now! I'll do the new cushion soon.

This is Sprockets leg a couple of days after it happened, it looks a lot better now, even though it's been licked.

Was the smell horrific Magrat? I nearly threw up when I made it. I almost start heaving just remembering the smell.

TheCunnyFunt · 29/08/2012 10:18

Ooh I don't know what happened there Confused

Scuttlebutter · 29/08/2012 12:51

YY - liver is vile stuff, and can't even imagine the smell if it's baked in a cake - I've never been brave enough.

We had a great time yesterday during our hospital visit. Callie and Mick behaved impeccably, and attracted so much attention (in a nice way). Their owner was so thrilled to see them - I had a huge lump in my throat. Blush Lots of fuss and cuddles and tickles, and quite a few other patients came out to the garden to stroke them and say hello, even one of the nurses who turned out to be a Saluki owner! It was so worthwhile and will really help owner's recovery - I think she really feels now that she has something to get well for, if that makes sense. Left Mick's rosette from Monday with her - she was chuffed to bits about that.

Off to the vet this morning, after a very soggy walk first thing. Mick had his check up, once over and routine vax, wormer etc. Poor darling Callie had to go in for her dental operation today - hopefully though it will be much better for her in the long term. Felt absolutely awful though when she trotted off with the vet nurse and just hope she will be OK. Will be ringing this afternoon to see how she has got on.

Scuttle when I did livercake I cooked it in the microwave so I didn't have to endure the smell of it cooking slowly in the oven Shock

The hospital visit sounded lovely, (as lovely as one can be!) will they be allowed to visit often? I bet Callie and Mick were pleased to see their owner :)

Hope Callie recovers ok, bless her. Have you heard anything yet?

Ooh keep forgetting to say! I'm lucky enough to have a non-counter-surfing greyhound Shock :o we went out on monday for about an hour and a half and Sprocket was left in the bathroom/kitchen, we got back and I saw his muzzle lying on the kitchen floor (he pulled off the scab where is drain was so it was bleeding a bit, so we left him in there so he wouldn't bleed on the sofa). Instead of him jumping up and eating all the sausage fat out of the roasting tin left on the side, he pulled a few nappies out of the packet and shredded one of them.

I just could not believe he had left it alone! I mean really, what sane dog leaves sausage fat in favour of clean Pampers???

MagratGarlik · 29/08/2012 14:27

I cooked the livercake in the oven. Actually, it didn't smell too bad, but then the dogs also get green tripe on a fairly regular basis, so perhaps it's all relative!

Thanks for the comments, Scuttle and Betsey, very helpful. I think on the positive side out of all of this, we are getting better at reading her. She came with unknown history from an irish pound, but the way she reacts to small furries would suggest that she may have been used for rabbiting or similar (when she sees a cat, she lets out a howly bark and kind of bounces backwards and forwards as though waiting for a command, if you tell her to stop she remains wound up, but the howly barking and the bouncing back and forth stop straight away). We suspect she never lived in a home. She looks very much to whippetty for clues on how to behave in the house, except around the boys, who she simply ignores. Sometimes she goes very quiet and seemingly very calm and I think at those times, she is actually very insecure and uncertain about what she should do and/or something is stressing her out at those times.

How lovely that the hospital allows the dog visits though! It must be very comforting for the owner to be able to see the dogs being well looked after and cared for.

Scuttlebutter · 29/08/2012 16:52

Gosh, Magrat, she sounds exactly like Norty Minx in the way she responds to potential prey/work.

Cunny - that is really weird!!! Shock

Initially we were told that we couldn't take the dogs because of the "risk of allergy issues" even though we just wanted to take them through the ward foyer and out into the garden at the back, so I thought we would have to do visits in the car park Hmm. Then a second request produced a positive response - suspect they don't get asked often! It all worked really well and I am so proud of Callie and Mick for not peeing anywhere, deciding to eat the ward sister or anything else like that Grin Hopefully we can visit regularly now. Top marks to the ward staff for being willing to give it a go. Smile

MissBetseyTrotwood · 29/08/2012 18:34

Excellent that they were flexible Scuttle - animals can bring a place alive, can't they. How lovely for your friend to see her dogs.

Good to be doing this work with Lurchergirl during the holidays Magrat. There's room for some consistency then - otherwise the DCs are out of the house for so long at a time!

Lawks Cunny that wound looks nasty...

I caught DS2 licking Billy today. Apparently he was 'washing' him and 'loving' him. Ugh.

TheCunnyFunt · 29/08/2012 18:53

Betsey :o the things kids think of and do eh? :o

Squishy new cushion!

MagratGarlik · 29/08/2012 18:58
