Send your questions to The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan

RachelMumsnet · 20/12/2010 15:53

Great news for all those in The Dog House. We've been given the opportunity to send our canine questions to none other than the Dog Whisperer himself, Cesar Millan. Cesar is over in the UK to promote his forthcoming new series of the UK version of 'The Dog Whisperer' which will be aired in UK on Nat Geo Wild in early February 2011. We'll be filming some members of Mumsnet HQ (plus dogs) putting your questions to Cesar in January and we will be airing the film across the site at the end of January, to coincide with the launch of his new series. To stand a chance of getting your question to Cesar, post them to this thread before end of Tuesday 21st December 2010.

Add me to the list please Val - I think I'm number 41.

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 23/12/2010 14:09

Well bugger me, if they're going to delete all the potentially libellous posts they're in for a long night. I counted a dozen directly accusatory (as in, "CM is cruel, CM is a charlatan, CM promotes barbaric behaviour..." etc) within the first column inch of this thread alone!

At that rate they'll need to delete the entire thread... and then they'll be left with the 3 or four questions which have been put by those who know no better. Remember please, that Trinity and, I think, another poster, withdrew their questions after they'd seen the way this cruel charlatan behaves.

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 23/12/2010 14:11

41 it is indeed, Madsometimes. :)

Add me too please, Val. That'd make me 42. Thanks Smile

weimy · 23/12/2010 14:21

Hi have just been directed to this thread and must say I never knew about all this. I don't know how I missed it but have only been on here a week on the ttc threads. Thanks for the information.

musicposy · 23/12/2010 14:37

Minimu's post about the sofa was excellent and exactly how we've trained our puppy to like her bed and the crate (we always laugh that she thinks she has a treat-producing bed!). We have a Jack Russell cross puppy who's a real character - has been very much harder to train than our sheltie was. Because of this we've had to fight against people who have told us to "dominate her" and "show her who's boss". My SIL even smacked her on the nose once Sad- my 14 wonderful year old DD absolutely exploded at SIL before I had a chance to even speak and she wouldn't dare do it again! But this is why CM is so wrong - it leads people who know no better to think you need to dominate a dog.

The point is, we've made fantastic progress using only positive methods and this is on a lively, spirited terrier cross. She's only a puppy still but her behaviour is coming on so well. We attend puppy classes where they've been wonderful - it's all treat and reward based and has made such a difference, a difference that will make her a calm, well -behaved and happy dog for the rest of her life. Instilling fear is always wrong.

Add me to list of those opposing CM, Val.

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 23/12/2010 15:00

Number 43, musicposy.

And still no offer of help at rescue from Patterdale. Perhaps she's too busy watching TV to get to this thread right now. Wink :o

(Yeah, yeah, I know, cheap shot, Val, cheap shot!).

spiderlight · 23/12/2010 15:07

If we're counting votes against CM being on here, then please count mine! I'm disgusted that MN would have anything whatsoever to do with him.

Add me aswell please val to the list personally i think he should have one of his collars on himself and see how he likes it.

RubyBuckleberry · 23/12/2010 16:23

i told iloveitwhenyoucallmeboo to 'off you fuck' for laughing at my apparent lack of philosophical knowledge and i called missbeehive a twat for 'pointedly ignoring me' i think lol

it was rather rude, i agree, but i couldn't resist it because some of you lot are being hilarious.

midori, brave? um, how brave is it to commit libel (i don't even know if you can 'commit' libel) on an anonymous forum. vallhala 'i stand by what i say'. how very impressive Hmm.

and yes, you are right iloveitwhen - its all very entertaining lol

ditavonteesed · 23/12/2010 16:30

realised although I have been reading all this thread I havent actually stated my objections. so Val you can add me to your list.

JaxTellersOldLady · 23/12/2010 16:32

shame it isnt a live chat.

DooinMeCleanin · 23/12/2010 16:33

Oh yes. He should do a live chat then they can't edit us before he sees Xmas Grin

He wouldn't have the balls though. Everything must be carefully planned and edited to his marketing and legal teams liking.

Bella32 · 23/12/2010 16:50

So glad that this thread has opened a few people's eyes to the truth about CM. A drop in the ocean compared to all the folk who watch the heavily edited TV programme and fall for his illusion, but it's a start. When the big joint statement came out last year it was in all the professionals journals but never made it to the mainstream press. How I would love a Panorama or similar programme to lift the lid on Cesar, but sadly I reckon the $$$ on Cesar's side are stacked against that.

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 23/12/2010 16:51

"vallhala 'i stand by what i say'. how very impressive"

Ruby, my knowledge and experience on this particualr subject is far more impressive than anything you have written or are likely to write on it. What's more, I haven't felt the need to boast about my professional or educational qualifications, call you a twat or suggest that off you fuck, tempting as that is.

"I stand by what I say" was in response to the concept that MNHQ fear a libel suit. My point was that they might, I don't.

Now, do run along, you're becoming boring. You're clearly here not because you have a clue about the subject in hand but because you are spoiling for an argument. You've had that, now let the grown-ups get on.
___

tjacksonpfc - 45

ditavonteesed - 46

I appear to be the Keeper of Numbers. Feel like I'm a Terry Pratchett character! :o

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 23/12/2010 16:54

I don't think I'll have been counted yet, so am I 47?

Slubberdegullion · 23/12/2010 16:56

Jesus Wept.

It's pretty rare that I get pissed off with mnhq but this really stinks.

ffs mnhq hellooooooo
Mave ANY of you EVER ventured into the Dogshouse topic and read ANY of the threads with folk asking questions about their dog's behaviour?

We have excellent people already here who are pretty much always on hand to offer training and behaviour advice WITHOUT the need to hurt or terrify your dog.

Why on earth are you assisting this man with any more publicity oxygen?
Dearest Cesar is even more on reviled here than that idiot nanny Clare whatserface from that C4 series.

You lot need to wake up a bit and assess what's happening on the boards before you invite any old self professed 'expert' in for a Q&A session.

RubyBuckleberry · 23/12/2010 17:10

'Now, do run along, you're becoming boring. You're clearly here not because you have a clue about the subject in hand but because you are spoiling for an argument. You've had that, now let the grown-ups get on.'

i'm only here because you and others keep taking this tone with people and it is totally out of order and unbelievably rude and arrogant.

'I haven't felt the need to boast about my professional or educational qualifications'

er how many times have we heard how much you know about dog training? i'm sure it is true incidentally but a little humility, as ponders pointed out earlier would do your cause the world of good.

Bella32 · 23/12/2010 17:22

I'm quite happy if you stay, Ruby. Keeping this thread in active convos means more and more people will hear the truth about CM. Keep up the good work Xmas Grin

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 23/12/2010 17:39

Er... I am a rescuer. I pick up the pieces when humans listen to CM or CM-type training advice, act on it and fuck up. And yes, I know a lot about that.

I'm aware that you consider me arrogant and find that interesting given that you think you know better than all the organisations and experts who so roundly condemn Millan's cruelty.

Pot, kettle, black and all that.

_

We're up to number 48, i think now... or has Slubber already been counted? :)

RubyBuckleberry · 23/12/2010 17:40

[fbear]

RubyBuckleberry · 23/12/2010 17:45

'you think you know better'

one minute i am condemned for knowing nothing, the next for knowing everything

Hmm Hmm Hmm

you sound to me like you are shooting your mouth off and not really thinking about what you are saying

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 23/12/2010 17:49

No, read again.

I said, "You THINK you know better...".

The clue is in the word THINK. I am not suggesting that you know everything or even that you know better, merely that you THINK you know better than the acknowledged and eminent professionals in animal welfare detailed in the press report.

Btw, I find "shooting your mouth off" such an unattractive expression. :o
