Send your questions to The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan

Great news for all those in The Dog House. We've been given the opportunity to send our canine questions to none other than the Dog Whisperer himself, Cesar Millan. Cesar is over in the UK to promote his forthcoming new series of the UK version of 'The Dog Whisperer' which will be aired in UK on Nat Geo Wild in early February 2011. We'll be filming some members of Mumsnet HQ (plus dogs) putting your questions to Cesar in January and we will be airing the film across the site at the end of January, to coincide with the launch of his new series. To stand a chance of getting your question to Cesar, post them to this thread before end of Tuesday 21st December 2010.

i have seen your link. no i didn't like it. i didn't know the effects are only apparently transitory although that is why i am wondering about the dogs he works with. he must help people or he wouldn't be so popular. he was successful before his tv show, after all.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 22:23

"he must help people or he wouldn't be so popular."

he does. he helps them part with their money by telling them what they want to hear, that they are the boss, teh pack leader and that they should dominate that dog. humans are egotistical creatures and it is human nature to want to be in control of situations. cesar tells these people exactly what they want to hear.

RubyBuckleberry · 21/12/2010 22:24

you are not going to convince me it is a total fix.

like i said before, i thought the dog collar thing was to respect the owners wishes or something. he doesn't use them on his dogs - he doesn't need to, because they just follow him and he treats them really fucking well. his dogs gets exercised, fed, played with, bathed, and they look a million dollars - all those beautiful rottweilers... and he helps dogs people. that is why i think he is great. i love people who help dogs! that picture of CASH, vallhala - beautiful dog!

RubyBuckleberry · 21/12/2010 22:25

valhalla, you had made that clear. i still have an opinion. and, like millions of others of joe public, i think he is great.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 22:25

but he doesn't help dogs. Confused

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 22:27

well, clearly love is blind. don't let the facts get in the way of your allegiance to cesar.

I would imagine the reason he is so popular because people believe the shit that flies out of his mouth. (if you knew much about dog body language you would know that what he says is happening in his programmes and what is ^actually happening are different)

I reckon people also like the romantiscised idea that dogs are like wolves and all that pack/dominance theory encompases.

I think Jean Donaldson (some of her credentials are on the link) has it right when she says:

"people are fed up with having to be politically correct in a chronically frustrating and disconnected world. Couldn't we just "get real" and stop being kind and tolerant all the time?

And here we positive-reinforcement oriented dog trainers are now telling everyone they have to be nice and politically correct to the dog? Well, yes."

from here: (very good article and lots of comments from experts on CM)

I think that as an explanation of WHY the man is so wrong, together with expert opinion and video examples this short clip is excellent.

I also think if you can see the previous video of the dog half d by Millan, tell me you "didn't like it" in one breath and yet still continue to extol the virtues of Millan then I am wasting my fucking time.

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 21/12/2010 22:35

Apologies, I lost a word there somewhere. I meant,

"I also think if you can see the previous video of the dog half ASPHIXIATED by Millan, tell me you "didn't like it" in one breath and yet still continue to extol the virtues of Millan then I am wasting my fucking time."

that video is a lot more balanced than some of the bollocks on this thread.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 22:44

oooh, hark at her!

midori1999 · 21/12/2010 22:45

What exactly is bollocks on this thread? People who know about dogs, have vast experience of dogs, some of them qualified giving opibions and example of why they dislike the man's methods, or someone who says themselves they know nothing about dog training but feels they are experienced enough to tell good dog training/behaviour modification from bad?

yes yes yada yada yada you keep saying this. we know this. for all i know though you might be really crap behaviourists, nurses and vets etc...

i just watched the clip again and no, i didn't like it - it looked pretty stressful - and like all his shows state, it wouldn't be wise to attempt something like this myself Hmm. but the dog gave in. it looked a bit like a toddler having a tantrum - the dogs he deals with don't like being told no some of them, but he doesn't back down until the dog does...

RubyBuckleberry · 21/12/2010 22:54

i don't get what you are on about thebrandybutterflyeffect

anyway, i have had enough

sionara haha

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 22:56

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 22:56

MNHQ get Rob Alleyne or Mick Martin on instead of Cesar, they are both informed, entertaining and successful.
Cesar is outdated and cruel.

RubyBuckleberry · 21/12/2010 23:07

is that so! then we can agree to disagree quite happily...
