Here you go. Shiny new thread, let's hope this one goes a bit quicker.

Oh please let his name be Bernard. It's my dh's name .

Pixel · 30/06/2010 18:35

And yes I did totally miss the point that you were taking the P out of the name Bernard. But now I've belatedly realised, tell me what is wrong with the name Bernard eh?
.

Arcadie · 30/06/2010 19:55

Happy now?! I do a good squirm, me.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 30/06/2010 20:21

I think there's nothing wrong with the name Bernard. It's just not very Timelordy.

Pixel · 30/06/2010 20:51

Ha ha, excellent squirming.

ProfessorLayton, very tactful answer!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 30/06/2010 21:07

Also it wouldn't work well in the international crossover market (increasingly important to DW as the Americans say bernARD and we say BERNard, so would probably be eliminated on that basis anyway...

Ripeberry · 01/07/2010 19:01

Nah is not Bernard, it's Kevin! That's why he keeps it secret

KevinOfGallifrey · 01/07/2010 20:44

What's wrong with the name Kevin? Eh? Eh?

Flamesparrow · 02/07/2010 19:07

Love the "quacks in the universe"

Davros · 05/07/2010 21:48

I don't know if anyone is still reading this. But DD made us watch The Waters of Mars again yesterday. It wasn't one of my favourites, bit of a pot boiler I always thought. But NOW I'm wondering...... what the Doctor did at the end, i.e. changing the outcome of something he thought was set, cause the cracks in time? He talked a lot about Adelaide Brooke's descendants, esp her granddaughter. So I wondered if River Song is somehow related (Brooke, River ha ha). Also, I always expected the Doctor's daughter to come back at some point and have been surprised that they never exploited that plotline, does River Song have something to do with her?????

stressed2007 · 07/07/2010 20:10

oh course I am still reading this ...how else can I get through to the Christmas episode?

lillybloom · 10/07/2010 20:01

Davros- Brilliant thinking

Davros · 12/07/2010 11:25

That's what I like to hear! So what does anyone else think?

RustyBear · 12/07/2010 17:29

Katherine Jenkins is in thechristmas special

cornsilky · 12/07/2010 17:31

booo

LilyBolero · 12/07/2010 17:36

I don't think anything will be linked to any RTD scripts. So look back at SM scripts for clues. The biggest one I have found so far is that the 1st episode in which River Song appeared was The Silence in the Library (by SM) - surely not a coincidental use of the word Silence...

LilyBolero · 12/07/2010 17:40

The cracks were made by the Tardis exploding - and it was fairly clear that it was being controlled by somebody or something else - series 2 will presumably explore who/what and what the 'silence' is.

I don't think Jenny (the doctor's daughter) will be involved in this plot, she is not a SM creation. I think Captain Jack 'could' come back (he IS SM), and I would LOVE to see Jack and River together...

I think it is possible that River causes the 11th Doctor's regeneration, or possible that she kills Rory - if she and the doctor married, as has been hinted at, Rory could be best man, and she said she 'killed the best man she ever knew'....equally, in The Eleventh Hour, the doctor referred to Jeff as his 'best man', but it's unlikely that he will return.

The question of the stairs in Amy's house was left unanswered - there was a flight of stairs leading up from the upstairs, but from the outside the house was clearly only 2 storeys. The stairs led to a blank ceiling....

Flossie69 · 12/07/2010 22:14

Has anybody else noticed the slight nods to The Time traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger? Apart from the obvious with River, there is also the way in the last episode where Amy met with her young self, and the way the Doctor saw himself about to die? Or is it just me?

Arcadie · 13/07/2010 15:59

Flossie IMO most of the River stuff is based DIRECTLY on the TTW (my fave book so I've read it a few times!) in fact if I were Niffenegger I'd be asking for some compensation!!!

mummytime · 13/07/2010 16:07

Yeap I noticed that. Do SM and Niffengger have a connection?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 23/07/2010 21:38

Interesting Doctor Who stuff from Neil Gaiman's blog:

"...interrupted only by the Doctor Who script which, having bounced from season 5 to season 6 (I wrote a Very Expensive Episode. I didn?t mean to. It just happened that way, and there was not enough money left in the Season 5 budget to make it) needed to change a bit, because Season 5 is not Season 6. And, because television production schedules wait for no man, they needed it now. [...] just as the draft of Anansi Boys was handed in, the word came down from the powers behind Doctor Who that I was going to have to do another draft. The wonderful thing about books and comics is your budget is infinite: it costs the same to draw one thing as another, to write one thing as another. That?s not true of television, where a budget might stretch to prosthetics or CGI, but not both (quick! pick one! now rewrite to make it work) or you might find yourself being told that, no, we can?t make the Undersea Dancing Mermaids sequence work because the underwater cameras would blow the budget even before you factor in the mermaid tails but we already have a bird costume so could you just make all the mermaids into birds instead? And you?re sure you can, you can?t just quite figure out how...

Truthfully, I?m not grumbling. I?m loving writing Doctor Who, and so far, each draft really has been better than the one before. But we?re now at the point where people in Cardiff are nervously drumming their desktops and checking their watches. So I?m putting blogging again off for a few more days."

There's also a footnote:

"*I've learned over the last few months that any comment one makes about Doctor Who is analysed, pored over, interpreted, and for all I know held up to a mirror and then combined with something from the Book of Enoch, by Doctor Who folk on the internet, who then have much too much fun using it to Build Up Theories. So this is a Disclaimer, just for them: There are no mermaids or birds anywhere in my Doctor Who script. That was just me making something up as an example. Honest. Also, this footnote is not a clever double-bluff, and really there are birds and mermaids but I am trying to throw you off the scent by mentioning them and then saying that there aren't."

Kaloki · 24/07/2010 13:28

Hehe, I love Neil Gaiman! Gutted we have to wait longer for his episode though

Davros · 25/07/2010 13:04

We went to the Doctor Who Prom last night. It was excellent, if rather too hot. I loved the wartime Dalek (sorry, not geek enough to know proper name) asking "Do you want a cup of tea?". Rory looked handsome from the back row in the gods.

wonka · 12/08/2010 21:50

Can somebody tell me why I cant find the last episode on iplayer???

Arcadie · 13/08/2010 09:00

I think they've ALL been removed now. :(
