This mum seems nice.

tibni · 20/05/2010 21:08

watching

sailorsgal · 20/05/2010 21:08

What beautiful kids.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:09

Danielle's dad is hot.

OP posts:
sailorsgal · 20/05/2010 21:09

Yes he is.

tibni · 20/05/2010 21:10

Seem lovely families

sailorsgal · 20/05/2010 21:12

Sarah needs to get her elbows off the table.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:18

they especially need to get that boy out of there.

an estate like that is dangerous enough for girls, can be even more deadly for boys.

gawd, i know how that feels, to be trapped.

it's awful.

OP posts:
sailorsgal · 20/05/2010 21:20

I feel very bad when I moan about my life.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:21

Being working poor is precarious. You get very little benefit, so that's why so many working poor end up in debt.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:22

Wow, they have such pride. I really like them.

OP posts:
sailorsgal · 20/05/2010 21:23

Its great they are portraying such a nice family.

Pennies · 20/05/2010 21:24

4 hours of X box for rich kid on a week day? OMG?? Feel sorry for that kid spending no time with family. And that haircut's rubbish too.

sailorsgal · 20/05/2010 21:25

I was shocked at that too.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:26

SO typical of the fucking council wrt to their housing benefit. They come back years later and you owe them a whopping amount. To pay back on your minimum wage.

And then they cut you off entirely.

Sooo typical.

My heart goes out to these people.

If I ever won the Lotto, I'd want to help the working poor like this.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:27

This is why so many stay on benefits.

OP posts:
sailorsgal · 20/05/2010 21:28

Its only the rich dad who looks out of place.

Pennies · 20/05/2010 21:29

Is it just me that find this so horrible. Not watched it before but isn't it all a bit bloody lady bountiful? Is it about educating the kids or the adults? I mean Tim Nice But Dim here is as naive as the children.

sharbie · 20/05/2010 21:29

He he pennies - I threatened my DD with that haircut just now to get her to finish her homework.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:29

Yeah, rich mum was peeling tatties and grubbing in the garden. And her accent is not that of Morningside.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:31

This case isn't about that, though, Pennies.

This is actually a really good series, especially this episode.

Because there are millions of working poor and children of working poor like this who are trapped in situations like this.

And it may well cost the productivity and future potential of these children.

People need to see this. People need to know this is reality for hundreds of thousands.

And they are trapped. They do not have the money to move away and no way of saving it.

OP posts:
Pennies · 20/05/2010 21:34

yy, agree with you about that Expat, but don't see why we have to see it "through the eyes" of Privileged Percy and his Debutante Daughters.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:34

Every time they get a bit of a break, a windfall of sorts, they get knocked back down. For example, they got the water bill cleared out and then the council comes and tells them they've been overpaid housing benefit.

And if he goes for courses, he'll likely have to take on more debt.

OP posts:
tethersend · 20/05/2010 21:36

It's not just you, Pennies.

It makes me feel a bit sick, TBH... making sure that the poor are deserving/grateful enough to receive charity from the benevolent rich.

It's all a bit Victorian.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 20/05/2010 21:37

Wondered if anyone was watching!

What a lovely family they seem.

Well put expat.
