here we go!

Well, as a working poor family, I wouldn't say no to going on that show and I wouldn't give a toss if other people felt we were exploited.

If we were in a place like that, well, all those parents want is to get the hell out.

And they need help to do it.

I don't see this as Victorian at all.

I hope to see this family get moved out of there and I'm glad they may get help to do so.

I can't wait to see them leave!

OMG at that overpayment. What a bunch of shits the council are.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:45

Oh, and I can tell you right now how that housing and council tax overpayment is so high.

That's been going on for years.

They have been overpaying them for years, the recipients are completely in the dark about it.

You should see those decision letters - they are reams and reams of paper.

You have no real idea if you're being overpaid or not if you are working.

Then they come back and demand thousands.

OP posts:
MrsMorgan · 20/05/2010 21:46

There should be a rile though that if the overpayment was made because of the councils error then tough shit, they can't have it back.

I have had to pay back an overpayment before, but thank god it was nowhere near that much.

sailorsgal · 20/05/2010 21:47

I feel a bit sorry for Sarah, she seems very lonely.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 20/05/2010 21:49

I agree mrsmorgan, if it is the council at fault then they should have to bear the cost.

Never going to happen though.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:52

I think they should have to eat it, too, if it's their fault.

It enrages me.

We've been there before, with tax credits.

And rich dad is right. Much as they don't want to, that £7000 will take them forever to pay off on their own.

And will scupper any chance they have of moving.

That's the sum of it.

charlieandlola · 20/05/2010 21:52

Does Sarah seem a bit odd to anyone ? A bit asd ? Dom s family are lovely .

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:53

Sarah just seems like her dad. Different.

Pattertwig · 20/05/2010 21:54

The only way to stop such ridiculous overpament mistakes (of which there are THOUSANDS - it's happened to me too) is to make the employee who makes the decision for x amount in the first place to pay it back out of THEIR wages.

Why should WE be penalised (heavily) for THEIR mistakes?

tibni · 20/05/2010 21:55

I think there is a lot of empathy and respect from both families.

Really hope they can work together

onebadbaby · 20/05/2010 21:56

I really like the poor family, seem so much more deserving than last weeks family, and the mum from the rich family is so down to earth and still very 'working class'- good for her!! her and her husband seem to balance each other well.

Hope they get them into a nicer area. Hope the are not too proud to accept the charity.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:56

If I were the rich dad I'd go straight to the council and pay them the fucking money.

OP posts:
onebadbaby · 20/05/2010 21:58

Think he would be a great teacher!

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 20/05/2010 21:58

I think sarah seems a bit socially awkward, but it seems she lives quite a sheltered / lonely existence so it kind of makes sense.

Lewis, I've argued on the phone with the tc people when renewing, pointing out that yes I earnt x last year but will be earning y this year - I'm guessing we will be hit with a bill soon.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:58

DON'T SAY NO GLEN! THINK OF YOUR KIDS AND GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE! GET YOUR DEGREE. DO IT!

OP posts:
sailorsgal · 20/05/2010 21:58

I hope Glen is not too proud to take the help.

onebadbaby · 20/05/2010 21:58

PosyPetrovaPauline · 20/05/2010 21:58

MrsMorgan · 20/05/2010 21:59

Please take it

sailorsgal · 20/05/2010 21:59

Brilliant.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 21:59

YES! Move away!

OP posts:
BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 20/05/2010 22:00

SAY YES!

PosyPetrovaPauline · 20/05/2010 22:01

wierd program
just like an angel has changed their lives
respect all round

expatinscotland · 20/05/2010 22:02

I think Sarah's just socially awkward, too. I think she's been very sheltered. Her dad's a bit eccentric and he's married to a working class Scotswoman. I doubt they're hte country club set and the girls don't board, either.
