Mark your places ladies, for the final leg of the journey!

OP posts:

Have we established when Chris died? DH and I were discussing it this morning and concluded it was maybe 80s, as surely PCs sent out with firearms now would also have bulletproof vests on?

diddl · 22/05/2010 10:17

So when Alex´s parents died-that couldn´t have been Gene as he was already dead?

When I watched LOM, I thought Gene was dead & Sam was somehow investigating his death in "Geneworld".

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 22/05/2010 10:21

Just re-watched it. There's a scene where Chris hears a whistle that no one else hears and then Ray walks down the corridor, and stops and rubs his neck and looks worried.... so many clues!!

RunawayWife · 22/05/2010 10:35

Do you think from the look on Vivs face when he was dying and Keats was holding him meant he knew he was going down

diddl · 22/05/2010 10:36

Yes I think if you watch it again now you know there willbe many clues.
A bit like the 6th sense?

diddl · 22/05/2010 10:40

RunawayWife-yes-but didn´t Gene take over from Keats?

Also-the guy who screamed(?) when he was dying & Gene whispered in his ear?

Do you think he told him he couldn´t help him?

Also, Ray killed a young boy-how did he deserve "heaven"?

Northernlurker · 22/05/2010 10:45

Viv was dead when Gene took over. I think it's up for debate about what happened to both Viv and Louise because they both showed regret for their betrayal - as Ray showed regret for his violence.

Lambriniknickers · 22/05/2010 10:47

diddl I think Ray redeemed himself in the episode where he went into the fire. Gene let him go in, possibly because he knew it was Ray's route to Heaven.

GeorginaWorsley · 22/05/2010 11:01

I ope A2A comes out in entirety on DVD,then i can watch it all, hopefully with 'extra' scenes.

bluebump · 22/05/2010 11:01

I thought this was brilliant and i've not seen any other series than this one in full. I think I now need to get the DVDs and watch them all from the start! I might start with just watching that last episode again...

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 22/05/2010 11:24

According to Wikipedia....

Ray died on 'May 1st 1976, the evening after the FA CUP final between Manchester United and Southampton, where Bobby Stokes had scored the winning goal for Southampton. Also note the headline of the newspaper next to Ray. On the television you see the marching bands that part of the pre-game entertainment at Wembley Stadium earlier that day.'

kando · 22/05/2010 12:20

Absolutely loved this! I don't know about anyone else, but I'm ordering Series 1&2 of A2A on box set asap, along with LOM 1&2!! Apparently, box set of all 3 series of A2A is coming out on 5 July (according to Amazon anyway!). Gutted that it's finished, can't wait to watch the whole lot again!

UnquietDad · 22/05/2010 12:59

If Shaz is from the 90s (as we are supposed to infer from "Wonderwall"?) then how come she didn't remember Nelson Mandela and all the other cultural things Alex kept alluding to?

Yes, because you start to forget and get very vague. It happens to all of them, as Gene's world is so real.

Maybe Alex keeps a firmer grip, like Sam, because she is in a coma rather than dead for much of it.

bambipie · 22/05/2010 13:30

Anyone else notice that Molly's mole changed sides? Was this a sign that Alex was starting to forget her.

Thought last night's episode was great the "my baby" bit was so . I had guessed that the the ghost was gene and that he and keats were good / bad gatekeeper types but I had assumed that Alex would get back to her little girl .

Am worried that too much analysis and the whole plot will fall apart! Like how come Gene is older and knows about 80s stuff? And why is he the gatekeeper? Is it because his body wasn't found?

Amazing acting from all of them - Keats was so scary and animal like by the end, started walking like the creepy wind vane.

And Gene, just crumpling, when she found his body. Did he know it was there?

I couldn't sleep last night trying to work it all out.

BitOfFunInTheQuattro · 22/05/2010 13:38

Molly's mole changed sides?

Blimey, that's observant of you!

I think Gene is just living the life he missed out on, but isn't ready to pass over yet because of his Gary Cooper complex. He is doomed to save the good from themselves until he finds some sort of peace himself.

ElizabethWakefield · 22/05/2010 13:54

I think because the others (Ray, Chris, shaz and Annie) all died instantly they didn't remember their old lives at all really, they just instantly woke up in their new world, whereas Sam and Alex were between world, in a coma, so they were able to remember things.

ThatVikRinA22 · 22/05/2010 14:04

DH has just said he worked out why it showed dixon of doc green at the end too - cos in the film the blue lamp he died 20 mins in but then went on to have a series.

so Gene and keats where the "gatekeepers" and the black bar man (forgotton his name!) was the equivalent of St peter...

i really liked it - i always thought of Gene as a guardian Angel type anyway.

BitOfFunInTheQuattro · 22/05/2010 14:06

I love that Gene was planning on a mercedes for his next car- that was the nearest thing to a happy ending for him until he is ready to join the others in the pub!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 22/05/2010 14:13

I can't get it all out of my head! I went for a run this morning and I was home before I knew it because I was so engrossed in my thoughts..... want to go back and watch it all again now....

sharbieinbackofthequattro · 22/05/2010 14:20

Loved it - name changed in honour.Just seen bof (sorry snap) so that makes two, any more coming for the ride.

BitOfFunInTheQuattro · 22/05/2010 14:26

There are a few of us about, sharbie

AWordInYourShellLikePal · 22/05/2010 14:34

Oh it was good wasn't it

Very impressed with everyone who notices the little details - I will have to watch all the series again (the hardship of it)

fartmeistergeneral · 22/05/2010 14:47

Can anyone guess why or how Sam 'redeemed himself' or came to terms with his death in order to finally get to heaven? Was he in the 70s for 7 years? Why so long? Some earlier said it was cos he returned to save Gene etc in that tunnel but if so, then he would have gone straight to the pub and not hung around so long.

Also, if Gene 'forgets', how did he think in his mind that he had helped Sam? What did he think happened? Just thinking of him burning Sam's jacket etc.
