I'm loving Monica and Michel, so much more refined, knowledgeable and watchable. Trouble is they just make Greg look even more crass. Monica's facial expressions are just brilliant. Make her the new regular judge I say!

On MChef, would it be a greater sin to serve meat slightly over than under? I would rather eat it a little overcooked than still pulsing but think chefs would be SLATED for it

2cats2many · 22/10/2009 20:09

I'm cheering for Steve!

How many times can Michel get the word 'unctuous' into an episode?

TheFoosa · 22/10/2009 20:18

why bother with asparagus, it's so fiddly

EightiesChick · 22/10/2009 21:57

Excellent. Steve was a worthy winner. They were all good in that last episode but he really had the flair.

oxocube, think it'd depend on the meat - with chicken, no way it could be underdone but with the red meats, I'd guess under would be better than over.

MaryAmericanSmooth · 22/10/2009 21:59

yay,good result !!

BrigitGraveKnicker · 22/10/2009 22:10

Fantastic- it was just no contest in the end- the obvious winner.

Now what am I going to watch?

CybilEngineer · 22/10/2009 22:13

I'm off to poach me a gull's egg (this season's scallop)

oxocube · 23/10/2009 07:19

And next thursday we have The Restaurant and Raymond Blanc - hurray

cremolatorium · 23/10/2009 07:33

lovely Raymond. How has he any more money left for the setting up of random reatuarants? I wiould have thought Cheerful Soul would have clenaed him out.

Delighted for Steve in MC. He really is a star in the making.Such a nice man too.

oxocube · 23/10/2009 07:43

Where did Steve work? Do we know? Bet he will have loads of offers now - was really pleased for him and a v well deserved win.

MaryAmericanSmooth · 23/10/2009 08:59

Steve worked at the Launceston I believe...
there'll be a run on gull's eggs that's for sure

Butkin · 23/10/2009 10:02

How do people acquire gulls eggs? Surely they are wild birds and you just can't go pinching them from their nesting sites?

MaryAmericanSmooth · 23/10/2009 10:08

I'm sure that somewhere, poss. Waitrose may stock farmed gull's eggs

Bettymum · 23/10/2009 13:31

I want pink praline.
A bit sad for Marianne but very pleased for Steve. Bet he's glad now he didn't join the fire service!

MarshaBrady · 23/10/2009 13:35

Steve was brilliant so glad he won.

His food looked so clean, precise and much better than the other two.

He will open his own restaurant, get backing now? Hope he does.

pollywobbledoodle · 23/10/2009 21:45

he deserved it for his bag of sweets and jus bow tie....

anyone else think it was nice how (unlike on some reality shows) we didn't get any backstory on contestants until the end?

spenthen · 24/10/2009 09:30

I know I should be over all this by now, but.....that starter that Daniel had to make (which IMO was definitely a case of getting the short straw, it was so much harder than the other two courses) - well, he chopped up all that beef by hand with no gloves on or anything, and then - correct me if I'm wrong, I don't really know about this stuff but - isn't Steak Tartare served raw? So they were eating raw meat that had had somebody's hands all over it?

I was feeling a bit poorly then.

Glad Steve won though.

oxocube · 24/10/2009 09:35

I know what you mean penthen, but I can't help but feel we are all becoming a bit too precious about the hygiene/food handling aspect. At home we don't wear gloves to handle meat and I don't know about anyone else, but if I carve a chicken or piece of meat, I touch it. As long as the chefs are scrupulous about hand washing before hand, I don't feel its a big problem.

MrsDinky · 24/10/2009 12:59

I agree with Polly, nice to see their stories at the end rather than the beginning. Did get a bit stick of the constant repetition of their best bits, esp. the rhubarb tarte tatin, yes we know it was good thank you.

Looking forward to the Restaurant next.

Bettymum · 26/10/2009 09:36

DH and I also excited about the restaurant! Does anyone remember that pair last year whose oven blew up the day they were doing the Mexican theme evening and they ended up making something like potato salad and then wondered why the Mexican guests were very at it. One of the best hours of telly ever .

oxocube · 26/10/2009 10:10

Oh I remember that - it was soooooo bad. Didn't they end up buying loads of wraps and putting slices of raw carrot and peppers in them . I remember thinking my kids could do better.

Bettymum · 26/10/2009 10:36

We were rolling about laughing - I think their stoves still worked, so why didn't they do CHILI! RICE! And make SALSAS! GUACAMOLE! But no, the old Mexican speciality, potato salad.

oxocube · 26/10/2009 10:42

And what about the guys who tried to sell sandwiches at Ascot or something like that where EVERYONE had already brought their posh hampers and champers with them (naturally). Honestly, these people seem to have no common sense, let alone business sense

oxocube · 26/10/2009 10:44

And yes Bettymum, you are right about the Mexican fiasco - the hobs/ gas rings still worked so there were so many possibilities open to them

MrsDinky · 26/10/2009 16:52

Didn't they end up giving out Doritos? Ooh, I can't wait. Another good set of facial expressions to watch for is that Sarah who goes round checking all the restaurants for Raymond.
