Masterchef - better without John?

I'm loving Monica and Michel, so much more refined, knowledgeable and watchable. Trouble is they just make Greg look even more crass. Monica's facial expressions are just brilliant. Make her the new regular judge I say!

Oh Ludo, Ludo

spenthen · 15/10/2009 11:34

Oh dear, so Ludo got the boot? So I guess Alarming Ryan is a dead cert now. Shame.

Actually missed it last night (goddamn parents' evening). Did Ludo deserve to go??

sneakergirl · 15/10/2009 12:35

We love Masterchef in this house! DS (7) begs to stay up late every night so he can see who goes through - sadly we deny his wish every night and tell him first thing in the morning! We like John (aka Puffy Cheeks ).

I was surprised Ludo went out last night but agree with the decision! Agree with everyone who's said that Greg just repeat everything Michel says - it's so annoying!

And when they cook for the critics and have to dodge their way through those stupid doors with armfuls of food .... it's an accident waiting to happen!

I can't remember the last two quarter finalists .... doesn't bode well!

Bettymum · 15/10/2009 14:11

Hmm wll spenthen he did well in the Michelin kitchen but his final two dishes weren't great, whereas Matt really had improved so I think he did deserve to go through. Still a shame.
Don't think Ryan is a cert, I think he's weaker than Matt and Marianne. Can't remember who's in it tonight. Looking forward to the finals next week though!

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 15/10/2009 14:28

The Shrek guy got through to the semis didn't he? Is that tonight?

I love Ryan. But Matt was great last night.

God I love chefs. All that hungry creative focus and determination. Must be a nightmare to live with though. When I worked in a restaurant they were always chasing each other round the kitchen with knives and beating the crap out of each other out the back.

TheFoosa · 15/10/2009 16:02

at Alarming Ryan

he WILL kill MR jr and eat his liver if he doesn't win

midnightexpress · 15/10/2009 16:03

In its own jus.

BrigitBigKnickers · 15/10/2009 16:24

Agree about Ryan- very scary eyes and no real emotion when they announced he had got through. Most peculiar.

spenthen · 15/10/2009 16:56

I think Ryan will win regardless of his finals performance. Chef Michel is desperate for Ryan to win. He looks at him as if he's just given birth to him.

In fact, I think Michel actually cooked Ryan himself. Lovingly assembled from all the best cuts of meat, and preserved in ice, to be gently warmed each week by Monica's breath and urged forth for his Masterchef assignments.

Mark my words, he'll win.

oxocube · 15/10/2009 17:46

The kids and I are Marianne supporters. She cooks the food I would love to cook if I had the time and talent - simple, tasty and not overly ponced. Are their recipes on the BBC website does anyone know?

browntrout · 15/10/2009 20:20

am all for learning your craft the hard way but I would have been sorely tempted to hit that Michelin starred chef over the head with the Swiss chard pan.

TheFoosa · 15/10/2009 20:24

is it obligatory to be dead-eyed if you are a michalin starred chef?

Katisha · 15/10/2009 21:50

Do you think the ice cream maker has been sabotaged?

MaryAmericanSmooth · 15/10/2009 21:58

excellent result - 3 really fab and nice finalists !! Marianne to win !!!!

BrigitBigKnickers · 15/10/2009 22:06

I was so pleased they let both Steve and Daniel go through. There was nothing between them in their semi final.

I'm not so sure about Marianne winning out of the three left my money's on Steve.

Imagine having a man in the kitchen like that! (and not just for his food!)

I would think myself lucky if my DH could even find the kitchen in our house.

sneakergirl · 16/10/2009 09:03

Personally I think Marianne has been very lucky to get through - more through others' mistakes than her own good cooking. I don't think she has once cooked a dish that Michel has said 'I'd serve that in my restaurant'.

I too was so pleased they put both Steve and Daniel through - both were fab! Poor old Robochef had a bit of a 'mare, didn't he?! Steve to win!

ApplesinmyPocket · 16/10/2009 09:17

I'm not getting the Marianne love. None of the three left really stand out to me - I thought Ludo or the mean-eyed one (Ryan) were probably going to make it but it's not like the year when we had the divine and talented James (and the annoying but interesting Emily.)

I suppose I'll go with the man who did the smoked poached eggs last night as that was such a quirky idea and obviously delicious from the reactions.

I do like Masterchef but I prefer the sections where they're cooking their own dishes - tend to fast-forward through the restaurant bits - anyone else?

BrigitBigKnickers · 16/10/2009 09:22

What I'd like to know is exactly how much eggs on toast with a bit of smoke thrown in would actually cost in one of these "Faine dining" establishments.

MaryAmericanSmooth · 16/10/2009 09:32

Steve is a slender Dom Joly...

spenthen · 16/10/2009 11:41

Weirdly will miss Ryan. Still I expect he's just been popped back into Chef Michel's cold storage facility and will be warmed over and brought out again for a later series.

I find Marianne's mouth much more intriguing than her food, tbh.

Want Daniel and Steve to be joint winners, that would be lovely.

TheFoosa · 16/10/2009 15:32

yes it won't be the same without Alarming Ryan

I am so glad someone else has mentioned Marianne's mouth, it's compulsive viewing

elliott · 19/10/2009 21:01

I'm confused - I missed one evening (last thursday) and somehow Matt and Ryan have gone missing and STeve and Daniel have appeared instead? How did that happen??

thaliablogs · 19/10/2009 21:21

Elliott, steve and daniel won their quarter final, then they had a semi final of all the quarter final winners, and steve and daniel and marianne won, ryan lost out.

EightiesChick · 19/10/2009 21:23

Anyone else annoyed by (among other things) how long Gregg leaves the fork/spoon in his mouth for each times he tastes the food? He just holds it in his mouth for about 30 seconds! Reminds me of my DS gripping the spoon in his mouth and refusing to let go.

Steve surely has to be the winner - his stuff is so ambitious.

cakeywakey · 19/10/2009 21:24

I love Michel, he's got those lovely deep brown eyes that you could melt into .... a much bigger draw than shouty John who always had too much on his fork for the tastings. Yuk!
