poor old Matty? Au Contraire...

Believe it or not, I'm beginning to warm up considerably (in a 'OK, maybe not such a bad idea' way, not in a groin-moistened way!!) after seeing some manipulations of him using some screencaps from Party Animals, where he doesn't look a)paler than death and b)smugger than Gordon Brown.

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 05/01/2009 22:26

I want Sally Sparrow and Brannigan as companions. I'm quite happy with Sally for fanciability on a regular basis, and I'll be happy with the Master as an object of lust at other times.

BlackEyedDogstar · 05/01/2009 22:30

yes UD I can well imagine SS is hot - (and bless you for deserting geekdom momentarily to appreciate the eye candy possibilities that Who offers us).

serenity · 05/01/2009 22:31

No, no, no. Hold your horses missus.

It would have been 'au contraire' if I'd called him young so big to you.

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 05/01/2009 22:36

Childish snickering

BlackEyedDogstar · 05/01/2009 22:40

who is Brannigan btw?

serenity · 05/01/2009 22:43

Ardal O'Hanlan was Brannigan, cat faced alien in Gridlock ....here

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 05/01/2009 22:44

Brannigan is Ardal O'Hanlon as a humanoid cat, seen in Gridlock calling the Doctor 'a little bit magnificent', which just about sums the Doctor up.

One of my favourite Who characters ever on the strength of that episode alone. I'd love to see more of him, and a non-human companion.

BlackEyedDogstar · 05/01/2009 22:53

ohh. Do we fancy the cat lady too ?

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 05/01/2009 22:59

No, not the cat lady. Brannigan and Sally Sparrow, who, given that UQD would probably need a few quiet minutes alone if she was, wouldn't be dressed as catwoman {grin].

I'm alone on the Brannigan thing, though, but I'll be quite happy if it's just Sally Sparrow. With or without catwoman costume

UnquietDad · 05/01/2009 23:18

I've just listened to the "Behind The Sofa" podcast on the 11th Doctor announcement.

Best line:
"I'm not ageist, but I'm old enough to be his father."

"Only if you had sex much earlier than most Doctor Who fans."

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 05/01/2009 23:21

seriously roffling

OggsfrogisaBadWolf · 06/01/2009 07:56

Andrew Buchan from Party Animals (no idea what this was. No tv.) said of Teen-Doc;

"It's a sublime bit of casting. He's got that huge hair, a twinkle in his eye - Matt's the king of geek chic. He is possibly going to be one of the best Doctors we've ever had."
I still can't get my head around him as The Dr, not even as Geek-Doc.

On the subject of companions failing Sally Sparrow, what about one of the Hath? I've got quite a soft spot for them I liked their fishy burblings and the way they stroked Martha's hair.

Costume notes: Geek Doc could be garbed in anorak and brown polyester trousers á la Kevin Turvey.

OggsfrogisaBadWolf · 06/01/2009 08:08

I would like to apologise to any geeks who may take offence at such a sterotypical type-casting. I am not for a moment expressing the view that all geeks dress in brown polyester trousers and anoraks.

Just some of them

JackieNo · 06/01/2009 08:13

Geek chic?

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 06/01/2009 08:38

no, no, no , no. Ten is the Geek-chic Doctor. Not every Doctor is 'geek-chic', and it's already been done with the current incumbent.

Hartnell - old victorian gent-chic Doc, Troughton - hmm, not sure right now, Pertwee - Dandy-chic Doc,
Tom Baker - Bohemian nutter-chic Doc, Davison - Crickety-Cricket-chic Doctor, Colin Baker - Colour-blind jacket of DEATH-chic Doctor,
McCoy - Eccentric Uncle-chic Doctor,
McGann - young victorian gent-chic, Eccleston - U-boat captain-chic Doctor, Tennant - Geek-chic Doc.

Arguably, the only replication there is McGann, and although he has since become a really good Doctor, the film is really a cliched aberration in many ways.

If Smith ends up as some form of 'geek-chic', it's only going to underline the 'Tennant-lite' thing, and I seriously doubt they want to do that.

He's got enough hair to do a creditable Dwayne Dibley, though.

PortAndLemon · 06/01/2009 08:44

The last time they cast a complete unknown was Tom Baker, and that worked out OK...

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 06/01/2009 08:49

ROFL Dwayne Dibley. Oh dear, I think that makes us both geeks if we recognise that reference.

Oggs, I'm wayyyy ahead of you on the screensaver. I had that on my desktop MONTHS ago.

UD - I'm with you! I'm not that way inclined, but if I were, I would definitely do Sally Sparrow. I think it's her naughty girl twinkle.

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 06/01/2009 09:10

Actually, the Dwayne Dibley thing suddenly has me thinking that he could do a 'Cat', though, really preening and vain. The ego is quite in character, and it would certainly be extremely un-emo. Me likes!

Here you go! And Rimmer for holographic companion!

UnquietDad · 06/01/2009 09:28

The fact that I get both Dwayne Dibley and Kevin Turvey references makes me very old...

RustyBear · 06/01/2009 09:45

Patrick Troughton was cosmic-hobo-chic

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 06/01/2009 10:02

Good call, RustyBear, definitely. Cosmic-hobo-chic, brilliant.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 06/01/2009 12:47

Anything beats emo-chic.

Maybe they could re-design the tardis whilst they're at it for the generation that's never seen a policeman on the streets, let alone a police box. I'm thinking one of those interweb terminal thingies you see now, so the youf of today can always get into Bebo or Myspace.

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 06/01/2009 13:50

Blasphemy! The very idea of changing the policebox! You must have the policebox (even if you have a bit of leeway with the size of the windows.) Change the outside, never, but the desk top could do with a bit of updating, I'm a bit bored of the quasi-organic metal gantry look now.

How about Lister-chic, with dreadlocks and some cold biryani stains down his top?

Or Izzard-chic, with some fetching lip-gloss and some tasteful stiletto heels?

scaryteacher · 06/01/2009 14:08

Just to cheer you up Kay, he did Creative Writing and Drama at UEA, so he could be on your wavelength?

Doesn't do it for me as the Dr though. DS says I need to grow up and get over it as things change!
