who will it be?
DT will be a hard act to follow.

OP posts:
stitch · 03/01/2009 18:15

he is ten years, an entire decade younger than me.
bah"QQW""

VSisFlouncing · 03/01/2009 18:16

He's 26, so not exactly a child, 'bout time it was someone younger than my Dad

paolosgirl · 03/01/2009 18:17

Who the F is this boy??? I've never heard of him.

Wrong wrong wrong on so many levels. The role needs someone commanding with experience who can make the role his own and bring a real presence to the screen. A boy of 26 can't do that - it will become another grey Saturday night sci-fi drama with a pretty face in the lead. I bet we'll refer to him as "the one after David Tennant" in years to come.

Of all the people they could have picked

stitch · 03/01/2009 18:18

i didnt want patterson joseph, but he would have been a zillion xilion times better.

VSisFlouncing · 03/01/2009 18:18

matt smith
He's worked with some good people, don't doubt him yet..

I remember a lot of people being slightly annoyed when DT took over from CE..

Northernlurker · 03/01/2009 18:18

I just don't really do lusting after younger men. Quite liked the floppy hair - but he looked a bit young and annoying. Maybe the process of living and working in Cardiff will age him up a bit?

motherinferior · 03/01/2009 18:19

I think he'll be brilliant. The casting's been fabulous so far - I thought Ecclestone was if anything even better than Tennant; and yep, I think he'll be great.

IllegallyBrunette · 03/01/2009 18:19

I agree Paolo and who the F is he is exactly what dd1 said, but replace the F for hell.

Dd1 is 11 and doesn't like the look of him, so who is he going to appeal too ??

Can't see old grannies liking him either.

stitch · 03/01/2009 18:20

i thought dt was too young when he first started, and i was four years younger than i am now.
the doctor is supposed to be nine hundered plus yhears old. not some kid who looks like my sons school mate. and ds is not even twelve yet.
in fact , i think my ds would make a better doctgor.

Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 18:20

Glad the consensus is same as me, he's appalling {yuk}

He reminds me of some cokehead student pretending to be clever/. Sorry, that's really rude actually, of me. But he does. I have an irrational dislike for him already.

Probably a nice bloke for all I know but not right for the part.

Ds said 'that man looks like he's been hurt, mummy!' about the ill looking bloke. i said it was funny lighting...

sinkingfast · 03/01/2009 18:21

Oh he is going to be FAB! I can see exactly why they chose him.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 03/01/2009 18:22

I think he'll be all right, actually. I liked him in Ruby in the Smoke and the political thing. But all right hardly cuts it following on from the all round greatness of DT.

But please give him a hair cut before filming starts, and may his sidekick not be an 'eye's n teeth' startlet with a big chest and no brain.

Oggs, I'm glad you've finally found a decent use for sprouts.

Miggsie · 03/01/2009 18:22

I'm old enough to be his mother, oh that's just wrong!

Boo hoo!!!!

IllegallyBrunette · 03/01/2009 18:22

Any idea who the sidekick will be ??

edam · 03/01/2009 18:22

at Salbysea - an EMO doctor is exactly what he is.

Oh deary deary me. A 26 year old would be too young to have watched the original series. He won't have known who the hell John Pertwee or Tom Baker were or have that bred in the bone love of the programme that David T had. It's going to be terrible.

ClarissimoUsedToBePeachy · 03/01/2009 18:24

Now I am going to struggle to get excited about a Dr who seems to be obsessed with edward Scissorhands

Dh thinks its an interesting choice, DS's 1 and 2 (9 and almost 8) very impressed

Not for me this time but I will give it a try. Do feel very Meh abut it atm.

stitch · 03/01/2009 18:24

edam, i am thirty six, and i barely remember watching th eold series. just flashbacks really. i remember my mom being a big fan.
at twenty six, he probly thinks ecclestone was the original doctgor.

aaaarrrrghhhhhh... i am so not happy about this.
couldnt he have been the sideckick

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 03/01/2009 18:25

Do you think he's going to spend the next 6 months watching every single episode ever filmed?

I loved the way DT smiled when he said the lad didn't know what he'd let himself in for...yet!

motherinferior · 03/01/2009 18:25

Edam, dearest, I really don't think it will be. I thought Tennant would be terrible and that nothing could live up to Ecclestone's magnificence.

I do hope that poor chap's conjunctivitis clears up soon too.

trulymadlydeeply · 03/01/2009 18:26

I think he's fab - a great stage actor and he's been good in everything I've ever seen him in!

happy!

KayHarker · 03/01/2009 18:26

takes deep breath

Fine, see it's fine, like I said, fine.

I'm convinced he will be quite passable, and he'll have plenty of good material from Moffat and co. I don't find him remotely attractive which is a big plus (no, really, for the Doctor, it is) but...

I am truly disappointed they have gone with someone who looks so young, in a genre stuffed to the gills with young leads, one thing I have always loved about Doctor Who is that the lead was an older man.

See, I'm fine. And Dh isn't laughing at me because he's quite cheesed off too.

And now I'm off to write fanfic.

PersephoneSnape · 03/01/2009 18:27

he's a professional actor - he'll watch all of who from the year dot. i trust in stephen moffat - he's one of my fave writers on who and I trust his casting decisions.

i love DT as well mind, but gaun yersel' new guy.

Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 18:27

I loved seeing Tom Baker again. He is exactly like my erstwhile older man

I think I will have him back with open arms atcually having seen that. hee hee

Northernlurker · 03/01/2009 18:28

Actually I am disappointed - in fact I'm fighting the impulse to throw myself at the tv and wail 'Daaaaaaaaavid - don't goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!' but I guess we just need to hope for the best.

edam · 03/01/2009 18:29

stitch, you just weren't paying attention! I am only a matter of months (well OK, more than 12...) older than you and I was brung up on Dr Who - remember Pertwee very well but Baker was MY doctor.

Just phone dh who is out with the lads. They are a bunch of Who addicts and they are ALL devastated.
