scifinerd · 13/12/2008 22:54

Hassled Elf you are very funny

slayerette · 13/12/2008 22:55

Night all - can go to bed content with the lovely damien rice ringing in my ears instead of the warbly one.

flouncerpoppedbackforadvice · 13/12/2008 22:58

Damien Rice version

flouncerpoppedbackforadvice · 13/12/2008 22:59

I wonder if they picked that song thinking Diana would win.

shopaholicDIVA · 13/12/2008 22:59

BoF,you are right.
bye everyone till next year,

slayerette · 13/12/2008 22:59

Have just joined the facebook group 'Make Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah the Christmas No.1'

expatinscotland · 13/12/2008 23:00

damien rice does it justice, too.

but then, he can play.

expatinscotland · 13/12/2008 23:00

jeff buckley's is the best, though.

he's so raw.

god, i can't ever think of him without crying.

i cried hearing him even before he died.

xfabba · 13/12/2008 23:01

oooh just listening now and it's giving me chills - didnt happen with JLS (bit with Alex no2) - how funny how same song can affect you so differently.

flouncerpoppedbackforadvice · 13/12/2008 23:02

the jeff buckley version is so haunting and beautiful

xfabba · 13/12/2008 23:02

and good point about Diana - it would actually have suited her voice/style I think.

TippytheTipsyTurkeychick · 13/12/2008 23:02

Damien Rice's version is pure sex. Never mind that he's a fine thing himself, it's a beautiful cover

tiredsville · 13/12/2008 23:03

I think i prefer Jeff's version, rather than Damien's.

xfabba · 13/12/2008 23:03

listen to me, music expert, cant sing a note

slayerette · 13/12/2008 23:03

It has to be sung by someone who understands the song, xfabba.

flouncerpoppedbackforadvice · 13/12/2008 23:03

lol at the comments on the buckley link. I you look at who owns the buckley version it is Sony BMG somehow I don't think they wil release it.

xfabba · 13/12/2008 23:04

i agree - call me an old fart but I just dont thing sub 30 somethings are ready.

flouncerpoppedbackforadvice · 13/12/2008 23:05

Having listened to that Buckley version I need a good slow tender shag despite the fact I am too ill to move.

slayerette · 13/12/2008 23:07

No - they've read the words and heard how other people sing it, but they don't get it, in their gut, where the song needs to come from.

but I do feel very strongly about bad covers of amazing songs.

xfabba · 13/12/2008 23:07

i know - think JB is doing it for me the most.

thanks girls, this xfactor bashing thread has taken an pleasantly unexpected turn.

TippytheTipsyTurkeychick · 13/12/2008 23:07

so either way they win
how about lobbying for a "perfect day" version with everyone we think could do it justice getting a line?
I'm voting
Damien Rice
Josh Ritter
David Bowie
Bruce Springsteen
Mick Jagger
Melissa McEtheridge
Debbie Harry
Joni Mitchell

xfabba · 13/12/2008 23:09

they should make them put all the ltrics in - does make me wonder if SC or LW have unexpectedly good taste in music lurking there somewhere.

MarsLady · 13/12/2008 23:11
