Podrick · 09/11/2008 20:09

I am gutted that Laura and Austin got the boot...they both had lovely voices imo...I am losing interest in the remaining contestants.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 09/11/2008 20:12

Just watched it, Racehl was awful, but no comments on her singing

It's got to be a fix. Watched the repeat today.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 10/11/2008 11:40

just watched on catch up

Simon Cowell HAS got SMALL HANDS

can't stop noticing them, all saucy thoughts of him shattered

MadameOvary · 10/11/2008 11:44

Cant believe Laura has gone - wtf??? [anger]
Everyone is terrified of the Very Clearly Unhinged Rachel, they daren't even comment on her appalling out-of-tune singing.

wannaBe · 10/11/2008 11:44

Rick Waller was allowed to take a sicky from pop idol because of a throat infection. The next week he came back on and announced that he'd decided to pull out because of his throat and they brought darius on. It later emerged that he'd been paid off to leave the show because of his weight and they'd brought Darius in to replace him.

MadameOvary · 10/11/2008 11:45

or even

BitOfFun · 10/11/2008 12:19

Big gossip, wannabe! Can you link that? I can't find anything on the story.

myredcardigan · 10/11/2008 14:53

I think is happened because Diana's votes going elsewhere skewed the results. Also Louis saw an opportunity to vote off one of JLSs biggest competition.

Laura has a fantastic voice. Don't think Endless Love was her best and thought she was concentrating on the piano playing at the detriment of her singing but just shows her versatility.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 10/11/2008 23:37

Laura's singing on Sat was horrible, definately her worst performance.

I hope Rachel goes this week.
Daniel the week after.
Eoghan the week after.
Ruth the week after.
Leaving Alex, Diana and JLS

Jjou · 11/11/2008 08:58

I think the piano playing wasn't the smartest idea for Laura tbh - when she got up half way through the song and walked away from the piano the piano in the song didn't change. So was she actually playing it?! We didn't see her hands - it made her look totally fake, which wouldn't have helped win her votes.

Furball · 11/11/2008 09:11

totally agree jjou.

One question is - if you vote (I never have, so can't really moan about laura being booted off) do you vote for the same person every week (which I suspect you would?) or do you go on who you thing sang the best on the night?

Pinkjenny · 11/11/2008 10:10

I think it's just plain odd. Austin last week, and Laura this week. Isn't it Simon that loves to say, 'It's a singing competition.' Er, exactly, so why are you keeping all the shit singers in??

I did like Ruth's performance, I admire the way she goes for it, but Laura was just a much better singer, as was Austin last week.

Chart Throb does ruin it all a bit if you read it.

Does anyone watch American Idol? There was an irish girl on that last year, who Simon absolutely loved at the start, and then all of a sudden he seemed to turn on her, and started slating performances that were fantastic.

It's all a fix. The last genuine winner was probably Will!

Jjou · 11/11/2008 11:19

Of course it's a fix! My dp tried to vote for Rhydian in the final last year (he swears he doesn't like x factor, and yet...), but he couldn't register his vote. He tried a couple of times too. People were saying the same about Laura on Saturday. That said she was fairly poor, but not the worst.

Furball, I rarely vote, but when i do it's usually who was best that show, balanced against whether i like them or not

NosfeRaahhTu · 11/11/2008 17:53

Will young is great, and kind of sneaked up on the judges, the turning point being the week he spoke back at simon when he had said he was average. in that series- right from the very first audition, it was being set up for gareth gates to win (young kid, good voice, stutter so great sob story for tv). it seemed like a genuine shock when Will won.

They tried to deny there was any problem with the voting last year, but i'm not convinced-

BUT WHO IS VOTING FOR DANIEL???

(and could you stop it now please. Thank you)

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 11/11/2008 18:27

With the whole Will Young / Gareth Gates thing, app everybody was shocked when Will won (why so, I dont know, he's brilliant) but I believe the Pop Idol results were released and Will was consistently getting more votes than Gareth every week, though it always appeared not to be that way as Gareth always seemed to be "saved" earlier.

I think if some of the results from this years x factor are to be believed, Laura was not getting as many votes as they thought she should be - just becasue she has a great voice, doesn't mean that people want to vote for her, as its the "package" they vote for.

IIRC, on the series where Girls Aloud were created, there was such an uproar as Sarah had sung fairly badly on her last performance, and there were comments from judges, and she was put into the group rather than Javine who was tipped to definately be one of the five. Though in retrospect, good choice, 'cause Javine is horrid. Though maybe if she'd had a sucessful pop career rather than her attempt, she would have kept her hands off her best friends man, but that's another story!

I dont get in an uproar about the votes / who wins / who goes through / who gets voted out simply because I do not vote. I have my favourites, but I dont vote. I dont buy records / albums. I do express my when some people go though!!

wannaBe · 11/11/2008 18:28

I think that someone like Daniel should win. Not because he's the best (he clearly isn't) but because I think that these shows are so geared towards one of the younger acts winniing that they need to be shown that the public will choose who wins and not the judges/simon Cowell.

Furball · 11/11/2008 19:07

But he will fail in the charts the people buying music are more than likely not going to be buying his type of music.

the public chose Michelle Mcmanus and the public chose Steve Brookstein.

BlackEyedDog · 11/11/2008 19:47

I think us viewers need a motivator to vote (I will doubtless on the last show, after a couple of sherries, sobbing). Maybe laura got hardly any votes because everyone thought everyone else was voting for her so didn't bother IYSWIM. Whereas plenty of people might bother voting for Daniel because 1. He's jolly nice and 2. Simon and Louis are horrid to him. Obv nobody's voting for his singing, they just like him.

Also bad dresses played a part in Laura's vote count I'm certain. And naffola piano playing. Like someone said above, when a singer wanders away from a still playing piano it is quite bizarre and the song is already ruined by the word BULLSHIT flashing through our heads.

I'm gutted she's off.

Febes · 11/11/2008 20:47

I'm so glad they get to sing their own choice for the sing off this year. Its much better than just repeating the same naff mentors choice song.

midnightexpress · 12/11/2008 13:40

Isn't the Daniel vote something to do with Chris Moyles - they've apparently got some campaign going on the Breakfast Show to vote for him for 'comedy' value?
