I agree with what he says but its just the way he goes about it that winds me up

He is patronising and acts like all northerners are idiots who feed their kids crap.

In his new programme he has taken some families who are really extreme in their crap eating habbits and made it look like all northerners are like that.

Well in fairness I don't think I would like to hang out with him and Juuules but I admire the fact that he puts his money where his mouth is. I watched the programme and it was VERY apparrent that those people were from an underprivileged background. I didn't for a minute think that all northeners feed their dc's kebabs.

I live in a council house in the norht of England. I work now but spent 5 years as a single parent on benefits.

Jamie Oliver makes people think that having this kind of background means you are pig thick and think that a balanced diet means get your tea from a different take-a-way each night.

I lived in one of the most deprived council estates in Edinburgh.

I'm married to a Scottish passenger van driver who grew up in council estates and in an HA house - two working poor parents - who also has severe learning disabilities.

Have been a working poor family for 7 years now.

I don't take get that impression from Jamie Oliver at all.

I live in Rotherham and sadly a lot of people are like this. Before I get jumped on from a great height, there are also many people who are not and yes JO did pick some extreme individuals but something needs to be done in this town. I can't remember the exact statistics but it was in the national press a few months ago that two thirds of Rotherham residents either are obese or will be obese by 2010. The council was the first in the country to pay for kids to go to fit camp to encourage those who are severely obese to lose weight in a healthy way and to encourage them to lead a permenant healthy lifestyle.

In relation to the woman on the show who fed her kids kebabs, I know roughly where she lives and she is within walking distance to at least one supermarket. She would spend less shopping there and feeding her kids decent cheap meals than giving them greasy kebabs and chips and cheese every bloody night

The privilege I was referring to was mainly education MrsMertle, it is apparent to everyone that those people on the show had enough money to feed their kids properly, and that they loved their kids so the only reasn that they didn't was because they didn't knwo any better and lacked the education to know how to.

My kids are right Jocks who love sausage rolls, chippies, kebabs, pizzas and takeaways.

They are easier than cooking, I agree.

They're also about 10 times more expensive and not good for anyone to have on a regular basis.

It's my job as a parent to put them and their needs first, always before my own, and do my best to make sure they learn how to feed themselves properly and eat properly for their own benefits.

It's a good skill to have, too, especially in lean economic times or just if you're not earning a lot of money.

Sometimes, it's a PITA. But if I'd wanted an easy life, I wouldn't have had kids.

dittany, you can buy a basil plant for about £1, and then simply pull off leaves whenever you want to use them

it is a really easy way to make cheap ingredients taste good and basil seems to be one of the hardest potted plants to accidentally kill

I can make cheap stuff taste really good!

But without someone teaching that it's hard to know.

And that's ultimately what he's at least proposing nad trying to do.

Or at least to raise awareness.
