she must have discussed it with the producers though, after all she must have approached the programme

Thomcat · 24/09/2008 20:22

The mum just said, 5 mins ago, that she has tried in the past to stop breastfeeding.

She's not saying 'i want to give up' cos she'd rather carry on rather than deal with the tantrums. But clearing in trying to stop it in the past she has wanted it to stop.

poshtottie · 24/09/2008 20:23

I think its acceptable for a 3 year old to still be bf if thats whats right for that mother and child.

This family don't seem to be having a particular happy life do they?

imananny · 24/09/2008 20:24

i personally think that 3 is too old to BF, but that my opinion and none of you have to agree with it

if the mum still wanted to BF then it would be different, but she doesnt

mum WANTS to give up BF and get her life back

lilymolly · 24/09/2008 20:24

if its right for mother and child, but quite obvious that its not working in this family

imananny · 24/09/2008 20:30

first night of sleep training is always hard BUT most things can be solved IF the parents want it

mumhadenough · 24/09/2008 20:30

Oh God, poor family. I feel really sorry for them actually, well from what I've saw that is.

They seem to be really trying hard to make it work.

The swearing though . I've caught my wee guy (6) swearing on occasion when outside, but he would NEVER NEVER speak to me like that and I have an extremely high maintenance son who is undergoing assessment for ADHD at present. But obviously these boys have been getting away with it?

peachsmuggler · 24/09/2008 20:33

yes, if she wants to stop and she can get help in the show, brilliant. I just think it's a shame that SN seems to be saying that there is no need for ANY 3 year old to be bf.

I can't believe those parents haven't slept in the same bed for 5 years!!
They (He definitely) must be at the end of their tether and knackered to boot

ConnorTraceptive · 24/09/2008 20:35

I have no strong opinions either way about extended breast feeding. But I do feel a little sorry for the little girl stopping breastfeeding and co sleeping all in one go, she must be quite confused.

I also have nothing against timeout particularly but a naughty arrow

mumhadenough · 24/09/2008 20:35

Washing the car is discipline? My son BEGS to clean the car, I never let him, he'd scratch it to bits! lol

imananny · 24/09/2008 20:37

fair point marla ,though comfort can come from something else and same with nutrition that comes from food

but yes you do get antibodies from BF

as i said that is only my opinion that 3 is too old, but the mum wants to stop demand BF, so thats why SN is taking the hard approach

AnarchyAunt · 24/09/2008 20:37

I think that there is no excuse for saying it has no nutritional benefit. Thats just ignorance, and from someone who has influence with parents it is just crap.

Yes the mum wants to stop BF, yes thats fine, but SN should not be linking extended BF with the sort of behaviour those kids display, or rubbishing the benefits.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 24/09/2008 20:37

I thought that Connor - taking away all her comfort all at once, when it's what she's been used to for nearly 3 yrs...

LilRedWG · 24/09/2008 20:38

Naughty arrow suprised me too, especially next to a radiator.

poshtottie · 24/09/2008 20:38

I have been a nanny for a long time. It is so different when its your own child.

I have to sit with ds till he goes to sleep and hold his hand.

imananny · 24/09/2008 20:39

i really dont understand how parents allow their children to go in car without seatbelts/unclick them etc

LilRedWG · 24/09/2008 20:40

The change is amazing in the car, but I still feel sorry for the little girl in particular - losing all her comfort in one go.

LilRedWG · 24/09/2008 20:41

And the woman's breast haven't exploded yet - I bet they feel soooo sore.

imananny · 24/09/2008 20:41

kids like and understand rules and disapline, so yes SN is firm, she is also fair and does get results

peachsmuggler · 24/09/2008 20:42

I am sooooo getting a naughty arrow when mine's old enough

kiddiz · 24/09/2008 20:43

There is no need for a 3 year old to be bf. Yes it does have some benefits but it is not essential. It is a personal choice. Personally I wouldn't want to feed for that long but wouldn't critisise someone who did. FWIW I don't believe that the Mum wants to still be breast feeding she's just avoiding the problems that have arisen when she has tried to stop in the past.

NotAnOtter · 24/09/2008 20:44

ewww those boys
