I thought this started on 20th Sept. DH reckons he's seen a trailer saying it is tomorrow!

Does anyone know anything about this????

OP posts:

Oh John Sargeant is HILARIOUS!

He is so clearly enjoying himself immensely, and I love the way he is able to laugh at himself.

Am still giggling at his declaration that his Tango "Oozed raw sexuality" a couple of weeks ago.

He MUST stay, hes brilliant in terms of comedy value.

JoolsToo · 18/10/2008 20:26

Is Mark defined by his torso, which frankly doesn't do much for me anyway, where is the softness? That guy has a personality by-pass

have voted lots of times for JS

Saker · 18/10/2008 23:26

I so agree with everything on this thread about night (even the bit about Brendan being quite sexy (only) when he's dancing )! I really felt for Don especially tonight, he tried really hard and the comment about "you're supposed to be an actor" really mortified him IMO.

Does anyone else think that the choice of music for James and Cherie's American Smooth was odd. Not exactly Astaire and Rogers and I do think the right type of music helps the dance and brings the audience along. I agree with Craig that although they danced really well, it was a bit dull.
Did anyone catch what James said to Craig? I couldn't tell if he was agreeing or disagreeing.

I just watched Colin and Erin's American Smooth on Youtube. It's still a cut above everyone on tonight.

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 19/10/2008 07:40

My thoughts;
Rachel and Vincent - good, not exciting
Brendan and Lisa - ok, not worth the marks they got, but it had been decreed to be their week I think.
Brian and Heather - Brian was amazing, Heather was not
Matthew and Christine - I liked their routine
James and Cherie - didn't really like this this week - partly because of the music
Ian and Jodie - loved this, and really glad they had a 'good' week
Austin and Erin - thought he did a good job, but not as amazing as his jive
Mark and Hayley - OMG. WHAT was going there? He looked like a pole dancer in a male strip club (or at least what I imagine that to be). SO not good.
Andrew and Ola - he looked a bit like Lurch in the Addams family. REALLY don't like Andrew - mixture of dancing non-skill and non-personality.
Don and Lilia - again, not good, although I do like them.
John and Kristina - well, it was entertaining, they were never going to do a full-blooded samba, so clever choreography from her. And John is obviously VERY popular.
Tom and Camilla - didn't think this was fantastic, but they were obviously going to be top of the leaderboard this week (joint with Brendan and Lisa), and clearly were going to be put above Austin, so that they could comment on that.

It will be interesting on the results show whether they maintain the pretence that it is done on the Sunday - as they would need to pretend that Tom was now married and YET STILL ON THE SHOW ON THE DAY OF HIS WEDDING....

Tigerschick · 19/10/2008 07:48

I missed the beginnings of Rachel and Heather's dances and all of Lisa and Brendan so need to catch up on the iplayer later.

Also need to re-watch John as I was roffling for the first half He is sooo brilliant. I hope he stays until all the ones who don't stand a chance of winning it are out ... I'd hate (and I think he would too) it if someone with really talent went at his expense. But for the time being, keep him in, he's fab!!

I agree with pretty much everything said here (including the stuff about Tess' dress! Really miss her comedy outfits form last year )

Is anyone else getting a bit bored with the whole Tom v Austin thing? I know I'm biased but it seems that Tom thinks he's got this huge competition with just Austin which the media/judges are picking up on. No one else seems to care about it.

Tigerschick · 19/10/2008 07:52

I think that they are toning down the whole 'It's really Sunday now ' thing this season. But I agree that it will be interesting to see if they mention the wedding at all.

(Please excuse the typos in my previous post )

NosfeRaahhTu · 19/10/2008 11:04

i'm glad someone else thought the music was odd for Cheries dance, it was the first thing i said when they started, not at all in keeping with the American smooth at all, esp as everyone else kept it traditional. But i still like her. It makes a change for one of the older ladies to give the younger ones a run for their money. Was glad Jodie did well, but she will still be a bit of a cart horse in the latin, bless her.

I have just read that Brucie has said thus series will be his last- i think he is feeling his age. I don't like him much, but for 80, he's not doing badly. I feel a bit sorry for him- all the doddery jokes must be getting to him.

Freckle · 19/10/2008 11:23

Tbh, he makes most of the doddery jokes himself.

Who chooses the music? It is the professionals or are they given a piece to choreograph to?

Tigerschick · 19/10/2008 11:43

I don't know who choses the music but there have been comments in the past that suggest the professionals at least have a say in it. They must know fairly far in advance so that they can get it recorded by the band who will do it on the night. I think that they must have it recorded specially as they don't always use 'conventional' versions - they use odd bits of songs - and they often mess around with the tempo a bit.

I love the accoustic version of Layla but I agree that it was an odd choice for an American Smooth.

Tigerschick · 19/10/2008 11:46

There's quite a lot of speculation on the digital spy forums about Brucie.

cyteen · 19/10/2008 15:05

Just catching up on iplayer. Lovely outfits so far - Rachel's dress was gorgeous and for Lisa actually looks interestingly beautiful rather than just plastic pretty.

Agree that Rachel and Vincent were proficient but lacked fire.

Snaf · 19/10/2008 15:41

Have just spoken to a friend of mine who is still on cloud nine after attending the filming of SCD last night

She said it was amazing and apparently the Paso that the pros dance in the results show almost had her in tears of excitement

Best bit was in the BBC bar afterwards though - she met everyone by the sound of it...

So, according to my spy, Lilia is gorgeous and minute, Brian is weird-looking but friendly, Jodie is lovely and happy to lend her cigarette lighter, and Penny Lancaster was there and is apparently utterly beautiful IRL... Gary Rhodes stood on her sister's toe in the lift and didn't apologise, Adrian Chiles looked v grumpy but sat next to them in the second half and kissed her sister... Flavia is v funny and chatty and apparently had a large zit on her back

I have told her I will sell her my first-born child for a wristband pass...

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 19/10/2008 15:43

I would pay extra to vote who to kick off rather than who to keep in. Andrew, Mark and John all need to go, but what's the betting some of the women will go first. Heather's chances are not looking good, and yet she is better than several of the guys.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 19/10/2008 15:44

Oh your lucky, lucky friend Snaf. I am

cyteen · 19/10/2008 15:51

i didn't think lisa was all that! seemed like her timing was slightly off several times.

Heather looked a bit like she was phoning it in.

Snaf · 19/10/2008 16:04

I know, she is a jammy mare

mabanana · 19/10/2008 16:10

I felt sorry for Cherie, she so wanted to be Ginger Rogers and instead of a gorgeous pink frock with feathers and some Cole Porter she got that stupid Layla and a truly horrible dress.

Tigerschick · 19/10/2008 16:27

Just re-watched all the dances on the iplayer. (FF through the talking bits )
I thought that Lisa and Brendan were good but I couldn't really see what the judges were raving about ... maybe it's the small screen that took the magic away a bit.

Agree that Cherie's dance was a bit of a let-down on the whole 'Smoothness' of it ... not very Ginger Rogers was it.

Tigerschick · 19/10/2008 16:28

Snaf - am truely I take it she didn't let you in on who is out??

OllieWollieWoo · 19/10/2008 18:51
