Did anyone watch Graham Norton with Olivia Coleman last night?

I don't mind her - haven't made my mind up whether her daffy "silly me" persona is genuine or all an act, but anyway. Alex Scarsgard is gorgeous, but that film? Often I see films promoted enthusiastically on there and think hmm, not sure I'd bother going to see it, but Wicker? It looks bonkers. OK a sweet love story, but bonkers! Bonkers in a 'not worth my time' way. And then we find out that Olivia and her DH are producing it! The two leads seem so mismatched. Or is it just me?

I haven't been to the cinema for years but the " weirdness " of it is calling to me !

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 10/10/2026 10:42

I came down hard on the side of bonkers.

I’m actually coming round to Olivia these days, she used to irritate me. I’m sure she’ll be thrilled to have my approval.🤣

Much as I’ve always liked Jon Malkovich as an actor, I ended up switching off last night as I found his speech difficult to listen to somehow.

Sewingbeedamned · 10/10/2026 10:47

I know exactly what you mean about her - no one that successful is that goofy. But I am interested in the film as I love Alexander Skarsgaard

LoafofSellotape · 10/10/2026 10:49

The only thing I've liked Olivia Coleman in was Fleabag, she was fantastic in it .

Lomonald · 10/10/2026 10:50

It looks insane 😂 olivia Coleman loves a "Quirky sexy film" ! The film about Queen anne was saucier than I thought it would be.

Lomonald · 10/10/2026 10:51

The leads are supposed to be Mismatched just wanted to add.

Saw the Wicker trailer at the cinema and in a nutshell she is shagging a tree and groaning A LOT and that was just in the trailer

I think that is the gist😀

Harriettttt · 10/10/2026 11:42

Not paying for watching anyone shag a tree.

Did that sell it to you? 😆

I see Olivias production company made the film, do you think she personally cast a Skarsgard. i will only shag the sexiest of trees😏

NormasArse · 10/10/2026 11:48

I’d only shag a tree with good wood…

MellowSubmarine · 10/10/2026 11:49

I find her “oh silly me” nonsense really irritating. I assume it’s an act, she got into Cambridge. I doubt she was all “oh gosh aren’t I just so ditzy I barely know my own name” in her Cambridge interview.

I saw an interview with her on Graham Norton a few years ago where she said she couldn’t remember the plot of the film or her character's name. “I’m so silly I can’t remember a thing, it was so long ago and even though this is my actual job I didn’t glance at a synopsis before I came out to a pre planned interview where I knew I’d be asked”.

I do tend to like her in things though.

She’s very funny in Wicked Little Letters - although not very likeable.

So odd!

CoraLdn · 10/10/2026 11:52

I also find the persona irritating. I found her Oscar acceptance speech terrible and acted out badly, although im sure she’s a great actress (as evidenced by said award!)

NovemberMorn · 10/10/2026 12:06

I loved her (though her character was pretty awful) in 'The Lost Daughter', Jessie Buckley plays the younger version.
I thought Dakota Johnson looked incredibly beautiful in that film, which is worth looking out for if you haven't seen it.

Agapornis · 10/10/2026 12:08

Why mismatched, he's only 2 years younger?

TickedOffAndALittleFedUp · 10/10/2026 12:12

When I first heard about Wicker it was just that it was about a woman who smelt fishy and had to create a lover. For some reason and tbh I blame Mumsnet because I've read stranger things on here, I honestly thought it was about a woman suffering BV and thought dear god why would anyone make such a film. Was very relieved tbh when I read just a day or two ago the actual story line. Still not a film I'm sure I need to see but nowhere near as grim as I originally thought.

TheExtraGuineaPig · 10/10/2026 12:23

I’ve just watched the trailer for Wicker, looks funny. I’ll definitely watch it (also love AS).

i had to look their ages up - I can’t believe he’s 50!

Oh, I thought he was a lot younger! But it's more about his Viking looks. I see her with someone dark and rugged, like Heathcliff.

OC, hmm. Not sure about her at all.

I heard her on Chain Reaction on Radio 4 being interviewed by Vic Reeves and it was weirdly tense and uncomfortable.

Supremely talented actress, undoubtedly. Will not be going to see Wicker however.

Apparently Wicker doesn't splinter.😀
