I just completely binged this - loved it!
It's rare to find anything with a mix of horror, history and female focus. I really enjoyed the perspectives and felt like I grew a little with the characters each episode. Gory at times but really enjoyed it.

It's very American Horror Story-esque which is good because I love AHS

and @RhannionKPSS no one knows what happened do they? Not for certain. As for the acting I think it's great! I am definitely stealing some of the insults 😂

What the police photos at the time show is that the Lizzie’s father was lying on a couch, not standing up when he was attacked and the step mother was on the opposite side of the bed, simple facts which this series got wrong. Lizzie’s story doesn’t need this fantasy, it’s interesting and strong enough without the nonsense imo. The best version of the story imo is the tv film starring Elizabeth Montgomery.

Yes, they are EXTREMELY gory. So much blood, and so much vomit in episode 2! 🫣

Oh God, the vomit. Had to look away.

I think it’s fine that they used poetic license, it’s a drama and never said or claimed at any time it was rooted in fact. In fact no one really knows what happened so it’s fine to be playful with it and expand the story…there are enough ‘accurate’ adaptations or as accurate as you can get given no one knows what really happened. For those not liking the blood and guts, it’s horror so don’t watch!

LoafofSellotape · 22/09/2026 19:39

The vomit was ridiculous and was just unrealistic imo,the axe scenes on the other hand were far to gruesome for me by to watch!

I didn't like the whole period scene at the beginning, not sure what that was all about.

BG2015 · 22/09/2026 20:06

We've watched a few more now and finding it all a bit silly.

Brummyhelpplease · 22/09/2026 20:09

Was not for me either and I only had it on a few nights in the background really but had to google why Wournoss was in it and it was apparently as she was obsessed with Lizzie bordens case.

localnotail · 22/09/2026 21:04

Started watching it, can't get into it. A lot of close ups and arty continuous shots, a bit boring.

Dp was watching it with headphones on, but kept telling me lines (I am supposed to propose to you but you look like a horse, or some such), it sounds like a comedy to me? He seems to be enjoying it, anyway.

I read a lot of batshit posts on here but this???

You’re watching your partner, watch a Netflix series whilst he is wearing headphones, he’s repeating parts of it to you?? Now you think it’s a comedy??!

Fucking WOW

JemimaTiggywinkles · 22/09/2026 21:28

I liked the Borden parts of the story. But it was definitely tongue in cheek rather than an accurate portrayal of history. Didn’t like the wuornos parts tho.

Crikey, calm down! I was doing something else, he was laughing and telling me a few bits that he found funny.

Bit of an over reaction from you!

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 22/09/2026 22:08

I watched the first couple of episodes and really struggled to stay with it. Wasn't for me. I thought it would be, as it looked great. I just couldn't get into it. I bailed after 2 episodes, and deleted it from my list, and from 'continue watching.'

It was very comedic/ tongue in cheek. I'm not sure what the issue is.

fuschiaproudparrot · 25/09/2026 05:23

Loving this series! It's black comedy obviously but so well done ! Music spot on . Sarah Paulson is just amazing as Aileen Wuornos. It's hard to believe it's her - it's Aileen as I have seen her as portrayed and in real life.

Sparrowsandbudgies · 25/09/2026 08:31

I’m not a fan of Sarah Paulsons Alieen. After seeing Charlize Ts version nothing comes close.

PuppyMonkey · 25/09/2026 08:45

Only got as far as episode 4 and then gave up. Absolutely fucking awful and not in the slightest bit humorous or edgy or dark. Just completely stupid.

Lottapianos · 25/09/2026 08:54

I finished it yesterday and enjoyed it on the whole. But dear god, I can't remember another series that outstayed its welcome so badly. EIGHT episodes! 🤦🏻‍♂️it could have been 4 without the Aileen Wuornos stuff, maybe 6 with, but 8 was just crazy. I was fed up of the whole thing despite enjoying the performances and the bonkersness of it all. Episode one was great and it went downhill from there

Boxfulloftoys · 25/09/2026 09:33

My DD18 had this on and I thought it was absolutely terrible.

RhannionKPSS · 25/09/2026 17:39

I ended up watching the rest of it , just to see how inaccurate it contained to be… total overkill on the murders which were grim enough without that.
My issue is the true story is fascinating and doesn’t need the ridiculous narrative in this series.

Everything from the size of the house & garden to what actually happened on the day was wrong.

As I mentioned previously the tv film The Legend of Lizzie Borden is far more accurate

TheTwerkingDuchessOfMonteshitshow · 25/09/2026 18:02

I was so confused by it I ended up watching all of it and quite enjoyed it in the end. It was rather strange and quirky though.

I thought I was seeing things, that I’d somehow changed stations without realising and I was now watching an Aileen Wournos documentary.

I haven't seen this, but I was listening to a podcast about Lizzie Borden earlier in the week (48 Hours if anyone's interested).

The house where the murders happened still exists and you can actually go and stay there!!!!

PuppyMonkey · 25/09/2026 18:37

@SoRestedHeByTheTumTumTree don’t bother watching the Netflix show because you will not be seeing anything about what really happened.

SoRestedHeByTheTumTumTree · 25/09/2026 19:05

@PuppyMonkey

I don't have Netflix anyway - so definitely won't be watching.

I think I have been watching too many forensics shows, but every time I see those pictures I wonder where the blood spatter is. It looks like they were moved to me...
I might have to watch the other show and listen to the podcast you mention!

Just finished it and the acting by the individuals was outstanding! Great directing too. So many scenes for just a few seconds but so much detail. Yes it's outlandish 😊
