I just completely binged this - loved it!
It's rare to find anything with a mix of horror, history and female focus. I really enjoyed the perspectives and felt like I grew a little with the characters each episode. Gory at times but really enjoyed it.

Really? I watched most of episode 1 but found it a hard watch. Might need to go back to it.

I nearly didn't watch it at all. It is quite American, IYKWIM and they have to spell out a lot of seemingly obvious things at weird times (virgin blood and not saying Macbeth were a bit eye-rolling for me) but it is quite unusual in it's take as a series. Try another episode. By the end they fold Eileen Warnos in as a "modern day" wronged woman.

We are on episode 4, quite enjoying it. Didn’t like the Ed Gein season but enjoyed the first two (if enjoyed is a good way to describe stuff based on true crime)! Some of the early episodes are a bit weird, especially the mechanical vibrators (!) but pushed through it and it’s better as it goes on.

Yes it is weirdly and unexpectedly shocking in small ways that keeps you on your toes.

It was ok I guess

I've seen some stills of the Wuornos scenes which caught my interest earlier.

Dp was watching it with headphones on, but kept telling me lines (I am supposed to propose to you but you look like a horse, or some such), it sounds like a comedy to me? He seems to be enjoying it, anyway.

If you saw her documentary it shows that side. You don't really ever like either main character, but you aren't supposed to I don't think. More that you can see how they ended up where they did and how they keep being punished for crimes that were certainly provoked. How they find peace and what life as a woman can be if we support each other.

I really liked the perspective anyway, even if it was a little clunky in places.

Yes, some very funny moments. A couple of teary ones too. Quite a few fist clenching "yes!" bits.

I liked Brigitte's chat with her husband near the end.

He's only about an hour in, but it all seemed to be laughs so far.

Epoisses · 20/09/2026 21:42

Just finished it and loved it. Some great characters.

Flannelfeet · 20/09/2026 21:44

Just finished it tonight, really loved it, but then i really like ryan murphys stuff. Have you watched any other "monsters" series by him? I have seen them all. Hope there is more to come. Cant get the song "stumbin in" out my head 💃💃💃 🤭

murasaki · 20/09/2026 21:50

I haven't, but he was involved in the American crime story series, and the Versace one was brilliant.

Lottapianos · 21/09/2026 15:43

I'm on episode 5. It's absolutely bonkers, very entertaining, great performances, lots of gorgeous locations and costumes. Pretty slow paced and long winded though - I think 6 episodes would have been plenty

I loved the Lizzie Borden story when I was a teenager

RhannionKPSS · 21/09/2026 21:49

It’s incredibly inaccurate, even the way the bodies were found , hammy and silly

murasaki · 21/09/2026 21:51

Dp is a bit confused as to why they keep inserting Aileen Wuornos into it.

LorenaWood · 21/09/2026 23:26

It's very American Horror Story-esque which is good because I love AHS

and @RhannionKPSS no one knows what happened do they? Not for certain. As for the acting I think it's great! I am definitely stealing some of the insults 😂

So was I ,it really spoiled it imo. It also could've been 4 episodes but as usual they string this things out 🙄

I think they’re trying to make the (loose) link between them as they were both women pushed to the edge- Aileen was badly abused and raped and then decided to kill men in some sort of revenge spree for all the horrible things that had happened to her. Same with Lizzie - although she was acquitted for the murders, so some say she never actually did it. The whole lesbian relationship thing with Lizzie is completely fictional, there is no evidence to this whatsoever although they seem to be trying to say both her and Aileen were in lesbian relationships that spurred them on to committing the murders.

Gave up at episode 4
unusually found some of the axe scenes too much knocked me sick

BG2015 · 22/09/2026 07:38

We started watching it last night. Watched 2 so far. It's funny in a very dark way.

Missohnoyoubetterdont · 22/09/2026 07:50

I binged watched it and loved it. Thought it was very cleverly done. Acting superb. Loved the soundtrack and the little anachronisms. Might watch it again.

Smokewhistle · 22/09/2026 08:00

Awful. Turned it off after episode 2.

I liked the soundtrack too.

It is very usual to see lesbians on screen, still, that are not just in the plot for the male gaze. I think the whole thing was quite refreshing for that alone. We have a lot of male gay films and series, so it is nice to even things out a bit. Also adds to why both women were so persecuted as men cannot stand women who don't need them.

Aileen was a bit obsessed with Lizzie I seem to remember, so I wouldn't be surprised if she did have sympathy for the way she was treated and see similarities to her own story.

Yes, they are EXTREMELY gory. So much blood, and so much vomit in episode 2! 🫣
