Is there a new thread somewhere?

I’m excited to see this.

They decided early on as Esme said 'we saw right from the beginning'. I agree with @YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME that Anna makes costumes. Beth makes garments you could wear and not be ashamed to leave the house in. But the judges wanted Anna to win and overlooked errors they sent others home for.

They were all really good sewers. Anna seemed the favourite all along because of her theatricality but Beth improved over the weeks and came close to beating her. I think Anna just edged it because Beth using hessian with the rough edges wasn't very Met gala, whereas I could imagine Anna's being worn there.

I disagree. The judges thought Beth’s dress was perfect for the Met Gala as it hit the brief of transformation (straw in to gold ) and it was beautifully sewn. Anna’s MTM was good, but Beth’s was better. Beth, unfortunately had less success in the first two rounds. Otherwise it would have been hard to justify Anna winning

I was glad Anna won, she was incredibly talented with a rare combination of precision, imagination and realising sometimes abstract ideas and concepts into clever clothes. Beth was techically very good but a bit dull throughout. I enjoyed this series very much and hope Anna has gone on to costume design!! Her mtm nailed the met gala brief.

mte, there have been dresses made of sand, film reels and moss worn to the Met Gala. Normally a hessian gown would be weird, but they were given a brief that deliberately prompted unusual, slightly costume-y ideas.

Mandarinaduck · Yesterday 21:37

I thought the hessian-to-gold-silk dress was 100% Met Gala (I thought Anna's was too but Beth's was the standout in conception and execution).

I honestly felt that they should both win - Beth certainly on the strength of that dress and her recent GOTWs and Anna for her consistent brilliance.

ChapmanFarm · Yesterday 22:20

Anna is a worthy winner. But Beth would have been too. They are both incredibly talented.

I think Anna's creativity did just set her apart. While I wasn't a great fan of her transformation, she did do a great job of recognising it wasn't working and cleverly restructuring it.

Beth picked more suitable beach fabrics but to create something out of totally different materials was very impressive on Anna's part.

Anna wants a career in this industry and so having thd winner status will help her more do than Beth who is clearly brilliant in a totally different field.

Unexpectedlhereagain · Yesterday 22:46

I hoped Beth and Anna would be joint winners. Nonetheless, I’m thrilled Anna won, it was well deserved. I loved her wings garment.

RoxieLoxy · Yesterday 23:12

Really enjoyed the final and I think Anna definitely deserved to win. She was by far the most creative and just seemed to have a gift for coming up with amazing and unexpected designs. Beth was obviously very close to winning too but she didn’t show as much creative flair in as many of the challenges as Anna did.

My overall favourite design of the whole show (I may be the only one to choose this though!) was Anna’s wedding outfit made out of random shirts last week. Yes it wasn’t that ‘weddingy’ but the colours and design were just off the scale impressive imo.

LittleStranger · Yesterday 23:17

No problems with Anna as the winner, although all the garments produced in the final were underwhelming compared to what we have seen before.

It's the nature of these competitions that the judges see something special in a contestant at the start, but have to play it down to keep the tension, as they seemed to do with Anna. I felt like she had just made the same style of garment over and again, but the flashbacks actually showed much more versatility than I remember.

SaySomethingMan · Yesterday 23:31

Really pleased Anna won.

I agree ages very creative.
I’d have been happy to see Beth win too.
I thought Emma would have gone last week but Heather messed up.

The competition was indeed between two.

Anna did not deserve to win. Her transformation was awful. Those pompoms made it look like a child's dressing up costume. No way did the judges think that was the best one.

Also Beth's gala dress was much much much better and nicer

The flower stuck on the front looked silly, too. I think Beth was robbed!

The colours of the wedding guest outfit were very much in the Japanese taupe style.

Well me too, although Anna is very talented too.
Anna's transformation was very weak I thought ... a heavy shift dress with a few pompoms strung around it. Beth's had real flair and imagination.
I also much preferred Beth's gala dress ... it was a triumph.

CoastalCalm · Today 04:03

It was obvious when they chose Anna’s awful transformation that they were setting her up as the winner. Beth’s final dress was the star of the show and she should have won. In any other episode they would have hated those orange pom-poms and the choice of material. They should state that they are either basing decision on one episode or the whole show

Anna is exceptional. Such a creative mind and able to turn it into reality.

That said, Beth's dress was absolutely spectacular. She would also have been a deserving winner.

What an impossible decision!

I fully agree.
It was an impossible decision to make.
I really couldn’t call it.
They are both so talented and beautiful.
Anna is a fantastic costume designer and Beth makes beautiful outfits and is an excellent sewer.
Emma was never in the running but oh my ! She too has talents. An opera singer and a finalist in The Great British Sewing Bee.
I’m still looking for my talent. Even one would be nice 😀

PersonOnTheInside · Today 09:07

What a difficult decision - I would have had to toss a coin!

I've been drawn to Anna's style throughout and am very satisfied that she won, but Beth would definitely have been a worthy and acceptable winner for me.

Beth's unflappability and attention to detail (like reading the full pattern instructions!) usually meant she rarely struggled with time restrictions etc which most of the other sewers often did. So it seemed really out of character for her to mess up the final pattern challenge. Such a shame.

Thistimeimeanitforreal · Today 09:35

If Beth hadn’t messed up the bow tie I think she would have won. Her transformation was much better than Anna’s, imo, and so was her MTM.
Having said that, she clearly is a very clever young woman who will have a fantastic career in engineering, so she didn’t ‘need’ the win in the same way that Anna did. Trying to get recognition in a creative industry is far harder. Anna was also talented in a different way and I hope she finds success in costume design. Wouldn’t work for a trip to Tesco but then designer catwalk clothing rarely does!
I enjoyed the series as a whole, some very talented people this time.

I agree, Beth one hundred percent out performed Anna, on two of the three challenges, Anna’s transformation dress was not good, and her blue dress was not a patch on Anna’s, which was surprisingly beautful,

if it’s based on whole show it basically means it doesn’t matter what they do in the final.

I think they got this wrong, for me if you have a final where they need to compete then the clear winner of that wins, the other episodes are to get you to the final, and there is no way, Beth didn’t outperform Anna significantly

Mintyt · Today 09:52

Oh the recap at the end made me cry

Yetone · Today 09:56

Does anyone else think that anyone wearing Anna’s transformation challenge would soon have their boobs falling out. This is true of a lot of the transformation challenges. They fit on a solid dressmaking form but as for a real person…..no.

Mischance · Today 10:05

I agree Beth should have won.

I think Patrick fancied Anna!

VintageWithVerve · Today 10:09

Emma was too busy performing to the camera to enjoy herself properly.

Also, everything she did in the final was awful.

Beth’s dress was fabulous. Anna’s felt like fancy dress

Beth’s dress was fabulous but I thought it was more suitable for a West End performance of Cinderella than the Met Gala.

She certainly spectacularly missed the brief for the mtm. I felt uncomfortable watching.
