I managed to close off the last thread without realising and couldn’t see a new one, so here you go!

Thank you, Chessie.

Still gloating over the fact Djock is out.

Edit to say I love the thread title!

Fizzywinegum · 31/08/2026 07:39

Thanks for the new thread Chessie Tennis

Love the title Grin

Excellent thread title Chessie ( even if I did think Marion said weeGrin).

And great news to wake up to in the early hours- I hopes Navone had an upset in him and I am very pleased.

Definitely time to retire- bet he's livid. Yesterday all the talk was about Roger's induction into the Hall of Fame- and he gets dumped in the first round Grin.

Hotdogs, weed, and no Djokovic! Hooray!

LlynTegid · 31/08/2026 08:30

I hope Novak Djokovic retires. It is time, no disgrace if he does.

Hotdogs, weed, and no Djokovic! Hooray!

Grin living the dream!

Thanks for the new and excellently named thread Chessie

Well done Katie and a fantastic win for Toby (he's a local lad!) vs Y-fronts Machac.

Obviously brilliant news about Djok but the match report, it seems the roof went on after the first set, so not sure how the humidity could have affected him thereafter Confused And apparently, despite struggling with this medical condition for a while now, he still has no plans to retire Hmm

JaneJeffer · 31/08/2026 11:01

Thanks Chessie, love the title Grin

Djok gone and I didn’t have to watch him 🥳

Hotdogs, weed, and no Djokovic! Hooray!

If Carlsberg did the US Open

JaneJeffer · 31/08/2026 11:10

I saw a bit of Roger’s induction to the Hall of Fame. He cried throughout but was very humble and made it more about tennis than about him. I must try to find Mary Carillo’s speech. I’m sure it was funny.

Grin

From the Guardian article it looks as if Harriet Dart is the only player not bothered about the smell of weed and I thought she had such a heightened sense of smell!

Grin maybe it’s masking all the other stinky smells

Grin fizzy and Jane

So many people talking about how sad it was to watch Djok struggle. I don’t get it. He’s 39, he’s won everything, no one is forcing him to keep doing this.

Exactly. He has decided to keep playing, and is now making excuses for his losses, and the 'condition' he's been living with. Clearly time to give up.
There is very little chance of him making it to the Olympics.

Stef playing Arthur Fils first round seems bonkers.

Arthur has been on great form, could be another early loss for Stef.

Raahh · 31/08/2026 16:11

Nervy start from Arthur though.

IceandIndigo · 31/08/2026 16:42

I’m interested to see how Arthur goes here. He’s obviously been in great form, winning Cincy, but he has no track record at slams.

IceandIndigo · 31/08/2026 16:59

First set Arthur. Or, as the Australian commentator keeps saying, Arture Fiss.

Andrey struggling a bit against Otto Virtanen, the guy who beat Ben Shelton at Wimbledon.

Raahh · 31/08/2026 17:00

First set Arthur.

No, Fils has no real slam pedigree(he's still pretty young, and has had injuries too)- but with the one sided hth, he must have been pleased to see the draw.

Josh and his 'Arture Fiss' is funny.

I bet he says Alcarath.

Raahh · 31/08/2026 17:11

Stef seems to have given in a bit.

IceandIndigo · 31/08/2026 17:54

Great comeback from Stef in this set!

Raahh · 31/08/2026 18:07

The dog was mithering, so I took him for a walk- very surprised by the turnaround, but well done to Stef for getting it together.
