Just saw a trail for Sleb Masterchef - it's back on the 18th August, at 9pm, with Giorgio Locatelli joining Grace Dent. Chuffians assemble!

I wasn't sure if I'd been too convincing (rather flattering myself there, I fear).
I used to be on another message board where a regular poster used to regularly come on and type in "Blotto", as she called it, after a night out.
It would have been quite funny if it wasn't for the fact she insisted it was genuine. It was far too well-organised and contrived for her to be genuinely hammered.
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't coming across like her.
As I said, I had had a couple of large glasses of wine but that amount makes me type much more carefully, like when you're trying to walk straight after a few drinks.
Although, I'm sure you're far too clean-living to know about that...😇😉

I'm quite surprised by Giorgio but in a good way. I think he’s much more serious than I expected, and although he’s willing to go along with the comedy and joshing up to a point, he’s not going to be budged from his stance as a restaurateur with a high reputation to maintain. So he’s being very critical with the contestants and he challenges them robustly if he doesn’t like what he sees. Also, Grace is very much second fiddle here, unlike the Grace-Anna pairing, which felt like two equals and far more relaxed. Giorgio is definitely the star in this firmament.

However, I agree that he’s very Italo-centric and he might need to loosen up a bit on that. I'm far from convinced that he's ever scarfed down a late-night kebab, for instance!

Thanks @LaMarschallin . BTW the adjectives "clean" and "living" are certainly applicable to me but I can't imagine anyone who knows me combining the two, except ironically. Which I'm hoping was your intention also! 😀

I'm also liking the partnering of Giorgio with Grace. She's a strong personality with plenty of opinions but he's an equally strong one with all the technique and experience. I like Anna, she's sweet, earnest and knows a lot but she comes across as a bit diffident beside La Dent. Giorgio's refusal to take prisoners is a refreshing change. He's not going to massage the egos of silly, incompetent so-called "celebrities." On most "celebrity" versions of shows there's an obvious "dumbing down" of questions so that the "stars" don't make prats of themselves. I think Giorgio tries to curb himself a bit but he thinks, rightly, that the contestants should take his craft seriously. I agree he should rein in the Italio-centric stance in a cooking competition with non-Italians but I'm not holding my breath

I'm positive you're beautifully clean and extremely glad that you're living but you're right, I was using together and leaning towards the ironical.

Agree with both of you about Giorgio and especially the fact he doesn't "dumb down". Celebrity versions of quiz shows are cringe-making in that respect.
I don't know if it was a regular thing in other series but I really like the Cook-alonga-Giorgio bit.
I got a couple of hints for making gnocchi last week (and also learnt the definitive pronunciation at last).

I like Anna also, but felt a bit that although she was the chef of the duo she more filled a sort of less annoying Gregg role than the chef role.

I do too. I remember she was part of that awful "ladette" culture years ago. Even more than the behaviour, I deplored the way it turned me into a peal-clutching, judgemental termagant. And now here she comes on Masterchef challenging them to make their ultimate pudding (according to the Radio Times.) Time does indeed change everything. And the Radio Times costs £5.50 these days!😒

I am also really old, I get the Radio Times on subscription. Part of my Saturday morning routine is going through it and deciding what to watch that week while I have a nice breakfast 🙂

Glad it's not just us.
Our main reason is the quizzes (Pointless, Mastermind and Only Connect) and the very decent cryptic crossword which we do on Sunday.@

I get the RT through my library so I can see it online, free. Hurrah!

I will say it is one of the hardest TPs I own (and I inherited the ORIGINAL Genus Edition - and started playing it when I was about 5 - from mammypotter)
