OMG this Graham Norton / Madonna thing is embarrassing. Anyone else feeling like it's just uncomfortable and almost scripted.

I haven’t seen it yet and wasn’t going to bother as the last time she was on Graham Norton she was pretty insufferable which was such a disappointment.

I think she has always been very good at what she does but I thought twenty years ago that due to her strong personality, intelligence and views that she would evolve into a talented politician or brilliant film producer or director or something....but no....she has stayed doing the same thing. That has now led me to believe that she is a bit of a one trick pony and just a bit of an oddity rather than the brilliant person I once thought she was. I'm a bit disappointed really. I used to think her rudeness and unpleasantness was a sort of persona she'd invented but now I think it's what she really is and I do find her boring ...apart from when she performs. She'd probably say that's what she does and who she is and she never promised to be anything else amd if I dont like it I can stick it....fair enough.

Oh god, it was awful and I also gave up after about 15 mins.

Was it Madonna? It could have been anyone because she was unrecognisable from her former self. Showing the clips only accentuated that. Older can be sexy too - look at Helen Mirren - but this was a weird facsimile of a younger woman and it was so uncomfortable. I say this as someone who is Madonna’s age.

Years ago she was authentic and challenging; now she feels fake and trying to conform to society’s beauty stereotypes.

And this fawning didn’t do GN any favours either. Grim.

BillieWiper · 27/06/2026 11:00

That new song with the toilet video and the random celebs is fucking dreadful. Really really bad. Derivative but not remotely catchy. It's definitely not a song you'd want to dance to.

Everything with her is just too much. Like these costumes. She's taken to wearing pastel colored lingerie and corsets but with the same weird boots she's worn for decades, I guess to try and be retro?

And she is so desperate for people to think she smokes blunts and does drugs.

It's also kinda grim the way she always dates men in their 20s.

I did like the bit in the video where she says 'hide the cocaine' then immediately Kate Moss pops up on screen! 🤣

Loopylalalou · 27/06/2026 11:15

There’s a piece in today’s papers about how her daughter - Lourdes - is harbouring some strong issues against her.
You don’t have to think to hard about that!

TinyTempest · 27/06/2026 11:17

I thought it was like pulling teeth.

He was a sycophant and she was just so boring.

Thank God for Kylie making an appearance. She always comes across as natural, down to earth and fun.

HoraceCope · 27/06/2026 11:23

Madonna struggled to take Kylie's hand

Triskellion75 · 27/06/2026 12:18

She's always been like this, it's nothing new.

JustSetFireToIt · 27/06/2026 12:28

She's very wooden, partly due to age and partly due to how she is naturally when she isnt performing. She's always spoken like she's trying not to move her lips.

I wonder if she's like this with friends and family. It doesnt look much fun.

Kylie was a delight as always. The two are night and day.

emuloc · 27/06/2026 12:33

She has never come across as a warm person, imo. I think that sometimes it is better to concentrate on an artist's body of music/ craft, rather than the person, as they can be so disappointing.

WestwardHo1 · 27/06/2026 12:37

I remember a famous photographer in the early 90s saying he had no interest in photographing Madonna because her eyes were completely soulless and empty.

Can't remember who said it.

AmusedMaker · 27/06/2026 12:59

Felt so sorry for Graham Norton. It was really embarrassing.

fluffythecat1 · 27/06/2026 14:18

She came across as quite mean-spirited I thought- unable for some reason to hold hands with Kylie, critical of others. In her position she could be lifting people up- see Rihanna complementing her fans’ fashion for instance.
I also thought it odd how she was affected by her brother Chris’s death- she wrote a song to cope with her grief, it feels quite narcissistic.

JenniferBooth · 27/06/2026 14:26

Im not that keen on the new music She has written much better stuff including beautiful ballads. Something to Remember is an album of them

2026onwardsandup · 27/06/2026 14:38

I just watched it and it was pretty dreadful . I think it does come across that Graham N is a big fan and wasn’t going to ask any deep or probing questions . Not sure M would have agreed to answer them anyway .
Points that struck me , she just comes across as so incredibly self absorbed and really anal about her craft / her life as an “ artist “.

Even at the initial introductions stage , she doesn’t do a perfunctory and how are you in response ? Ok as an interview we don’t want necessarily to hear about GN - but still .

She still has an amazing figure , but the plastic surgery on her face isn’t great as it gives her a completely frozen - non expressive appearance .
She doesn’t come across well , no level of engagement , self deprecation , wanting to tell amusing stories to engage her audience - GN or the viewers .

It was just incredibly boring , I can’t see many people other than big fans being remotely interested in what she is saying .

Ok I know I am judging , perhaps unfairly - but was also struck about her speaking about her sadly deceased brother . She was on the phone to him
, she understood he didn’t have much time left . Instead of rushing to be by his side - she went upstairs to write a song about him .

I also got the impression that she wants to remain “current “ and youthful and that is why she will collaborate with the younger artists e. g Sabrina Carpenter . I think she would also want to be with those who idolised her too .

I was never a big fan of her , although did like some of her songs . I did admire her though as someone who stood up for herself and had a great ability to re- invent herself and keep up with current artists . I am not sure now , if this was her skill rather than her management though .

I think they would have to sell it to her as X is a big fan of yours and really wants to collaborate with you .

She has lived in a bubble for decades and I appreciate that she will be surrounded by staff , management etc who will have responded to her every whim / request . It shows .

Finally , I also checked and there is a 38 year gap between her and her Jamaican footballer boyfriend . I do think there is a double standard when there is an older female / younger male rather than the other way around . It is somehow seen as more acceptable .

Disturbia81 · 27/06/2026 14:48

She was so beautiful before. She could have aged naturally

purpleme12 · 27/06/2026 14:54

Wow 38 year age gap!!!

AshtonGardens · 27/06/2026 14:56

I still haven't got over the car-crash interview from when she was last on his show, which must have been at least ten years ago. It was like pulling teeth, but maybe he thought he could do better this time?

Celebrities are just like the rest of us - some are surprisingly insightful ( I remember being really impressed by Lewis Hamilton on GN) and some are boring as hell - looking at you Madonna. Their day job doesn't automatically make them good at interviews.

purpleme12 · 27/06/2026 15:01

Maybe he was the only offered an interview?

I was also struck by this- talking about the end of life pain that her brother was experiencing. Surely with her money and influence she could have got to his bedside rather than write a song about it.

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 27/06/2026 15:57

Will be watching it later, but interesting to hear how she's still as dull as ditchwater.

She didn't speak to Chris for years, he wrote a book about her which I still have.
I think it was retaliation for her outing him publicly.

Her brother Anthony died also.
Both featured in 'In Bed With Madonna'/Truth or Dare film.

Both gorgeous looking when young.

MabelAnderson · 27/06/2026 16:39

I have never understood quite how she got so famous. I saw her first Uk gig. Three songs I think, a very short set at the Camden Palace. She was terrible ! A good dancer but not a good singer. I don’t think she has ever seemed intelligent or interesting, she has always come across as hugely self absorbed and humourless, and not a very kind or considerate person. I do think she was extremely driven though.
In contrast I met Kylie, when she was still in neighbours, and she was really human, warm and very likeable.

cheezncrackers · 27/06/2026 16:45

fluffythecat1 · 27/06/2026 01:29

She seems to lack a sense of warmth and humanity.

There is no change there then! She's always been like this. I suspect she's a narcissist - she certainly has a lot of the traits - but she was notoriously bitchy and unpleasant right from the start of her career and it's been well documented.

cheezncrackers · 27/06/2026 16:50

I have never understood quite how she got so famous.

She's savvy and utterly ruthless. She had a really good look back in the 80s and she was prepared to change regularly, drop friends and collaborators as soon as she had got what she needed from them, and move onto some else who could give her a new look, sound, whatever. She's a marketing genius - or at least she used to be. She's got very similar personality traits to Donald Trump and Meghan Markle - also both narcissists.

I just found it really boring, switched off after ten minutes.

I did too. The lighting was laughable l, she had a 100 watt bulb shining full on her face at all times!
