Has anyone watched the new documentary on Netflix called Maternal Instinct yet? I had never heard of this case before and am just absolutely stunned. 🤯 How can someone have the capacity for such evil?

@Twasasurprise Oh see I disagree. I think he was quiet and introverted without much of a personality and just let her do her own thing whilst he concentrated on his hogs. I can’t imagine he’d had a lot of experience with women.

Interesting. For me it was that people including friends (and maybe his mum?) were telling him she couldn't possibly be pregnant, but he never seemed to even ask her about it.

Added to that the lack of intimacy that was important enough for him to find time to tell his friend about, I just can't get my head around him not questioning it at all because he lacked experience with women and was busy.

If he was madly, blindly in love with her and desperate for a baby, I can see him maybe falling for it, but I don't think that was the case.

Sadly the baby also died. The baby was in the car with her when stopped.

The doctor and nurse at the medical centre who knew she was lying on her social media and were trying to keep an eye on her... they alerted the local hospitals because they thought she would steal a baby, if I recall properly from the film. I am sure no-one could possibly imagine what she was really going to do. Also seeing the sort of frozen horror on the faces of the staff as the police were telling them not to let her leave the hospital... it's clear they realised straight away what had happened- but the reports of a mother being found mutilated had by then already filtered through the news I think.

The whole story is just - well I want to say 'beyond belief' but that does not seem right when you consider all the horrors humans are capable of inflicting. But I feel sort of shell shocked just watching the film.

Thank you. I wonder what triggered her into lying so much. I will look on Reddit, bound to be more on there.

I've just watched the trailer. Can someone tell me how they were able to show the actual footage of her lying on the bed in hospital talking to the police officers? Aren't there privacy concerns for patients in the USA? That surely wouldn't be allowed if this had happened in the UK.

That’s the least shocking part of the story

watch before you comment

Thebigonesgetaway · 15/06/2026 21:10

I just watched it, just a mix of incredulity over all the lies and then horror at what she did. I assume as she’d had two kids already she thought the doc wouldn’t be able to tell,

shes no regard for human life, or even people at all, but he’s as dumb as. I mean a woman you’ve known weeks is going to spend millions on a ranch for you and you go along with it. And even defend her. Utterly dumb as.

jaffacakesareevil · 15/06/2026 21:12

The whole police interrogation in the hospital room is on YouTube. It’s 1 and a half hours long. Worth watching, she was obviously in deep deep denial and believing her own lies.

pouletvous · 15/06/2026 22:37

I cannot imagine cutting a person’s stomach open with and scalpel

she is a rare demonic psychopath

pouletvous · 15/06/2026 22:39

I think poor old Wade is intellectually challenged

BlackSwan · 16/06/2026 15:15

Chilling to hear the ex-friend tell how she had cut ties with the killer when she became obsessed and controlling about her own pregnancy. She was clearly the first mark. You have to go with your gut don't you.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 16/06/2026 20:10

I’ve just watched this 🤯

Absolutely batshit crazy.

I wonder what a psychiatrist would make of her, delusional personality disorder?

I thought she’d get the death penalty, they don’t mess about in Texas.

My heart broke for Reagans family, especially her young daughter 😢

Snufkin88 · 16/06/2026 21:20

@Girliefriendlikespuppies did she not get the death penalty ? It’s unbelievable what a complete psycho she was . You would wonder if it is a personality disorder or what the story is .

Letsgetreadytorhumble · 16/06/2026 22:00

Given the time I think she can add a whole lot more personality disorders to the DSM. Unreal watching and I had never heard of the case before so literally learned everything in that documentary. Chilling the lengths manipulators and liars will go to.

ZenNudist · 16/06/2026 23:16

I didn't see that coming when they introduced Reagan and the wedding photo story. Even with her carrying a dead baby at the beginning I didn't think she would be so psycho as to premeditate a murder of a young mother.

I felt the younger sister nailed it, saying that a demon like Taylor would find hell easy!

I'm amazed Reagans family contributed to the film.

I'm amazed no one staged an intervention with Taylor.

How much does netflix pay people for these interviews?

I felt bad for Wade and his family as they were clearly as thick as mince. At least his first question when he heard the news was to ask if the baby was OK.

It was all part of trial evidence. In US, criminal
trials (and the evidence therein) is in the public domain.

Not delusional IMO. Her numerous frauds (financial, emotional etc) and the elaborate lengths she went to indicate high levels of planning, subterfuge and premeditation. This was no delusional mental illness / crime of passion.
This was staged, meticulously-planned, complex, goal-orientated criminality.

Cornishclio · 17/06/2026 00:55

I watched it tonight. She was pure evil.

ThatJadeLion · 17/06/2026 00:58

The most chilling thing I have ever watched. In fact I wish I'd not watched it.

JuliettaCaeser · 17/06/2026 04:59

Another one like the car crash girl who managed to ingratiate herself with others and slack was cut due to her looks.

Demonic is the word. A psychopath with no empathy so would literally do anything to get what she wants.

The medics who knew she couldn’t be pregnant were in a difficult position. Bound by confidentiality rules she hadn’t actually done anything but they knew she was building up to it.

Member984815 · 17/06/2026 11:53

Twasasurprise · 15/06/2026 11:06

I saw Wade as her enabler and wonder how Reagan's family feel about him. If I was them I'd find it hard to think him entirely blameless.

So tragic.

I read somewhere that Reagans husband took a civil case against wade for wrongful death, I don't know how that's going .

doingeat · 17/06/2026 19:51

Juts watched it, I normally avoid this genre but gave this a go. I too am feeling shell shocked. Would this be a sociopath? BPD? She needed attention and willing to go the length. Wonder what her back story is and when she will be executed.

AIBU to be weary of very charming people? She seemed to be super charming and a great catch for him.

MidnightPatrol · 17/06/2026 19:53

Given the suggestion isn’t that she’s seriously mentally ill…. How did she envision this situation evolving?

How would she have gotten away with it?

Lentilcakes · 17/06/2026 21:09

Just watched it after seeing the title of this thread.
Was absolutely horrific - poor Reagan and her family.
Wade was definitely very naive (at best) to not believe his mum about Taylor. He didn’t even love her so there wasn’t that angle & obviously there’s the repossessed car and other fraudulent activity.
Agree it was totally premeditated - no doubt from the starting her agreeing to do her wedding photos.

Complete psychopath.

Screamingabdabz · 17/06/2026 21:34

What struck me most was how very normal and personable she seemed. On that Christmas video talking about the farm they just ‘bought’…very articulate and just like any other excited young woman describing a new house.

Chilling, that that level of ordinary-ness can hide such a disturbed mind. It’s a lesson we should know by now - how the worst depraved people often hide in plain sight in communities - but it never ceases to shock.

Italiangreyhound · 17/06/2026 21:56

It was heart breaking, u did not know the story and I did not know where it was going i thought it was going to be about financial fraud.

ZenNudist
I agree...

"I felt the younger sister nailed it, saying that a demon like Taylor would find hell easy!"

I also found the scene where Homer collapses next to the coffin so gut-wrenching.

I think the family wanted the story told, for people to know what happened to Reagan Simmons-Hancock and Braxlynn Sage Hancock.

StudyinBlue · 17/06/2026 22:09

Irrespective of anything else I just couldn’t understand her absolute obsession with Wade? He had tge personality of a potato. No charisma, no intelligence, nothing. Was she just one of those women who can’t be without a man and wanted to create the perfect family and because he was single wanted to mold him into what she wanted? Or can she just not cope with any sort of rejection and has to hang on come what may to ‘win’ She was obviously trying to buy his affection and that did seem to be working. The only reason Wade continued to see her seemed to be down to her financial promises. I think he’d have quite happy with his hogs otherwise. I think Wade summed it up when he said ‘All she ever wanted was me to say I loved her but I never did’.
