Interior design masters new series - let the battle commence

The next series starts on the 21st April. Looking forward to banquettes, and bizarre paint choices, and upcycling of old junk. DD and I are rewatching the old series and I’d forgotten how crazy some of the rooms were!

Wondering if I just have terrible taste but I always seem to like the ones the judges hate and vice versa...I thought the guitar shop looked great!

Guest judge wants them to do something the shop owner didn’t know he wanted…..er, maybe because he knows what he DID want, because he’s the expert in selling guitars?

I'm getting really annoyed at the shite these two are saying. Bad designers, why did you follow the client's brief?

I tend to think that someone walking into a guitar shop has a good idea of what they’re looking for.

As opposed to a gift shop that people wander into and buy crap.

Plus surely the point of those sort of brick and mortar shops for big purchases like the guitars is the owner. You don't need the display to explain why guitar A differs from guitar B - you sit down and chat with the owner - and they created a great space for that!

Yes, somehow I don't think any designer in the world is going to make someone "vaguely into guitars" spend thousands on a Fender.

Honestly, I'm getting more and more annoyed by the rubbish the judges come out with. I thought the guitar shop looked great (despite my reservations about the giant papier-mâché)

I can see that information on the guitars would be good but equally that’s why they put in the sofa so people could sit and chat. If you’re buying a £15000 guitar you probably know why

You'd impulse buy a 15 quid mug in the gift shop - not a 15 grand guitar!

Plus presumably the stock rotates relatively frequently so how would that work?

We’ve been to some very grotty showrooms for £££ secondhand musical instruments. I’d have added a watercooler and drinks fridge and perhaps some Waterstones bookseller style comments for the mid-range stuff. Their target market isn’t schoolkids and impulse buys.

I've just caught up, disappointed that that marvellous guitar shop redesign didn't win. The reasons it didn't win were ridiculous. They did fulfil the brief beautifully, respecting the owner and adding value. Urgh, should I bother watching next week? Probably .

The guitar shop was the best, My guitar obsessive DS would love it.

My husband loves guitar shops, I do not. But I would happily have sat in that one whilst he looked at the guitars, chatted to the owner and tried all the guitars he will never buy. They should have marketed the central seating area as a 'partner' area... and of course there are guitars, its a bloody guitar shop. Plus guitarists already know why one is 1k and another is 15k. Michelle just sounded ridiculous.

We’ve just watched. Both me and DH thought the guitar shop was great. Really clearly laid out, good lounging space and encompassed everything that the owner wanted which is surely the point? I just thought that the judges, having enthused over the gift shop, had to find fault in the guitar shop.

Apart from the fact that I loathe those twee sort of gift shops anyway,I just thought it was all a bit cliched and nothing original. And was it me but shouldn’t the oak leaf sticker on the till counter been centred rather than being off to one side?

Still can’t understand that the one time this series they really, really hit the brief it was dismissed.

Makes me think I’d never hire someone to design as if end up with what they want not what I want.

YES!!! Thank you, thank you. Every time I saw it I uttered a moan of distress and DH had to keep telling me to shut up 😂

They’ve been criticised before about not giving the user what they wanted, yet here we have a perfect example of absolutely giving the gutair shop owner exactly what he wanted. But no, this week that’s wrong. The judging is massively inconsistent. The judges should have asked the man if he liked his design, after all that was the bottom line. He was actually really emotional, and really love it, that tells me something but clearly not the judges. And that window display was epic!

I hated that stupid tree with fifty shades of leaves on it. I hated the green wallpaper, which was an awful backdrop for the art work. I hated the mishmash of the display I didn’t like the colours,

why did they pick the gift shop FFs? The gutair was much better, it met the brief, it looked stylish, it was inviting.

i could go on but I’m proper annoyed.

My guitar loving DP was cross with the judges on this one. Oh no! Guitars! 🤨

The shop looked beautiful and inviting and he now wants to go to Hay on Wye.
