THE AFFAIR on ITV: anyone watching?

I am rewatching this as I was so blown away the first time I watched, back in 2015 maybe. Ruth Wilson is incredible in this, as is Maura Tierney and Dominic West too in his smarmy, smug way. It tells the tale of an affair from two viewpoints, the man and the woman.

It's brutal viewing though, and I can see why Ruth left.

it was brilliant 🤩

JaneFondue · 16/03/2026 13:22

As I recall, the last two seasons weren't as good, but my memory is hazy.

I missed it the first time round. Have binged it the last few days. Absolutely loved it! S3 wasn’t as good but still thought it was all brilliant

mumofoneAloneandwell · 16/03/2026 22:40

Omg I loved this show. The last season wasn't so good but one thing stuck with me

Movement is Life

Also, Joshua Jackson is an excellent actor because hes so hot in this, but is a very passive man irl

Loved this

YourWinter · 16/03/2026 23:00

Oh wow, I’ll look forward to watching this again! I forget how many series there were, and I really only enjoyed the first one as it got a bit too weird. Set to record, thanks for the heads-up!

JaneFondue · 16/03/2026 23:02

It's taking me all my self- control to not get up and slap Noah Solloway's self-satisfied face!

Just bumping this as it was just on itv

notagainyoufool · 20/03/2026 22:23

I just watched the first episode by complete chance this evening. It’s good! Looking forward to watching another one

I am baffled as to why this is being presented and served up as NEW!

It's over a decade old. Every time I click onto ITVX it's right there at the top. NEW! Errrrr, no it isn't.

New to ITVX maybe yeah, but not new...

I thought it was quite good at the time, and may rewatch it. Not yet though. Bit busy at the moment....

TidyDancer · 20/03/2026 22:27

I remember watching it when it was first on. It definitely peaked in series one and went steadily downhill after that. It’s a shame because all four lead actors were brilliant. I really liked the first two series but it just wasn’t that great after that.

PurpleFlower1983 · 20/03/2026 22:31

Amazing series. It did go down hill after the second season though.

Edited

It was a chore getting though the last season 😄

Mumteedum · 20/03/2026 22:36

I really enjoyed this. Watched it maybe 3-4 years ago and knew it was an old series then . I think I had it on Nowtv but I don't subs anymore. Might give it a rewatch.

Gingercar · 20/03/2026 22:39

Perhaps I should try again. I got bored very quickly and turned over!

Tonissister · 20/03/2026 22:40

I can't stand Dominic West - to the point of needing to turn off the TV - so it put me off.
is it any good?

Villanousvillans · 20/03/2026 22:43

It’s a good show, I’ve seen it all.

Stickytoffeetartt · 21/03/2026 07:13

I absolutely loved this show, I think it's actually my favourite ever. I remember loving the very last episode.

Cheepcheepcheep · 21/03/2026 07:20

Good god, I’ve just looked it up. Twelve years old? (now) DH and I loved this, but we binge watched it in our first rental flat. It feels like I just watched it maybe 3 or 4 years ago… how on earth is it over a decade old?

JaneFondue · 21/03/2026 08:55

I hurtled through S1.
Scattered thoughts:

Ruth Wilson is a force of nature. You can see every emotion play out on her expressive rubber face. When I first saw this, I wondered why she would ever leave Cole for Noah, but I get her trauma now.

The scenery, so gorgeous and evocative.
Fiona Apple's theme song is just so right.

The Solloway older kids are such absolute brats. Younger ones annoying. Not a great advert for family life. Especially when you add the awful grandparents.

Athena, Alison's mom, is hilarious. The supporting cast is brilliant too.

Quite puzzling how every young woman- other than Alison- throws herself at 45 year old Noah. Before he is rich and famous. That required some suspension of disbelief.

Well they were in some dead end sea town (might be remembering wrongly) the local lads were a bit unsophisticated, wasn’t he an author?

Montauk.
He became a successful author only in S2. In S 1 he was an unsuccessful one with no money.
What I mean is I get why Alison fell for him..But there are lots of other young women sleeping with him.

I really enjoyed this but they shouldn’t have made any more after season 3. Love Ruth Wilson. Hate Dominic west lol
