THE AFFAIR on ITV: anyone watching?

I am rewatching this as I was so blown away the first time I watched, back in 2015 maybe. Ruth Wilson is incredible in this, as is Maura Tierney and Dominic West too in his smarmy, smug way. It tells the tale of an affair from two viewpoints, the man and the woman.

It's brutal viewing though, and I can see why Ruth left.

I seem to be only one who hasn’t watched it lol so don’t worry about spoilers for me i will have forgotten by the time I get that far.

I think spoilers are ok as it was on quite a while ago?

I am nearly at the end now and it really annoys me how they’ve messed up the ages and timelines. Stacey is 6 at the start but in season 5 she is 12.

Whitney is 16-17 at the start at 24 in season 5.

….But they also say in season 5 that ‘the affair’ happened 10 years ago? is it really that difficult to get the ages right?

I started watching it recently but found it so slow I lost interest!

I found it slow to start with too. I couldn’t have stuck with it if it was one of those series with 24 episodes each season

Also EJ can not be the biological child of his parents? Unless they’re implying his father is not actually his father.

Watched it on Paramount a few years ago, DH and I binged it.

Well I got to the end of all the free series on ITVX and then did something I have never done before and paid to watch the next series. Will have to pay again to watch the next one. It is one of the best series i have ever watched. As good as my all time favourite the thorn birds. Love all the different characters but Vicks was so lovely wasn't he.

I’ve just got to the end of season 5, I think it’s taken me about 5 weeks to cover all the seasons using a combination of ITVX and Paramount. The final episode of season 5 is great and makes it worth persevering through the dip in season 3.
I particularly enjoyed Claes Bang in season 5, he is such a fantastic actor. Maura Tierney was so solid all the way through too.

Well series 5 is weird . There is a lot of humour and lol moments but the parts with Joanie don’t seem right. Why does it go so far into the future ? She looks like she could be Whitney’s mum. Just weird.

kerstina · 19/04/2026 22:39

Finished the series. I liked the ending it was satisfying. Was not keen on the character of Joanie though , didn’t warm to her .
Anybody else think Whitney was just like Winona Ryder .
What am I going to watch now ? Feeling bereft !

As I recall, the last two seasons weren't as good, but my memory is hazy.

Yes I agree
