Comedy drama with Rachel Weisz, Leo Woodall and John Slattery.

I found it quite entertaining.

Has anyone else seen it?

I've seen the first episode. Not convinced. I thought it was a bit broad and the characters were unlikeable. I may try a second episode.

Lennonjingles · 05/03/2026 20:15

I watched the first episode and I’m not feeling it at the moment, Lee Woodhall with an American accent is a bit weird.

Delatron · 05/03/2026 20:40

I’m on the second episode- I’m gonna stick with it as read a good review.

Gosh Rachel Weisz is beautiful. Not quite feeling Leo’s accent and he always seems to play the same character…however, Sharon Horgan is the producer so gonna watch it all!

Brooklyn70 · 05/03/2026 21:53

watched the first too and haven’t felt the need to watch more today.

her constant talking to ‘us’ takes me out.

i don’t understand why they cant let actors be their own nationality on the show when it wouldn’t make a difference to the story.

WhereAreWeNow · 05/03/2026 22:02

I've watched first 2 episodes. I was expected great things based on Lucy Mangan review but im a bit underwhelmed. It's fun though and I need something short and light right now.

Leo Woodall's accent is distractingly bad.
The talking to camera thing is annoying. Great when Fleabag did it but not great in this.
Rachel Weisz is ridiculously beautiful but I'm finding myself distracted wondering what she's done to her face. She looks younger than she did 20 years ago! It's the cheeks I think.
I reckon I'll stick with it.

Delatron · 05/03/2026 22:07

I’m struggling with it a bit. She’s so obvious and needy. Don’t like the talking to the camera. Not feeling any chemistry or depth to the characters especially Leo’s.

I became distracted and started googling whether Rachel Weisz had had any work done. Apparently she’s very against cosmetic surgery but looks like she’s had fillers to me and hard to get to 55 without a line on your face. Still beautiful though.

I did exactly the same thing! I agree she's had fillers. Agree she's super beautiful but shame if she felt pressured to drop her previous stance on cosmetic procedures.

Brooklyn70 · 06/03/2026 10:22

agree with everyone about her pillow face, the only explanation other than fillers is if she had gained a few pounds or was pregnant and i don’t think it’s either of those.

i find it surprising in an established English actress like Rachel, especially when Kate Winslet, Kiera Knightley, etc are being celebrated for looking so naturally stunning.

Delatron · 06/03/2026 12:29

I think it’s also because she has spoken out so vehemently against cosmetic work! She needs to own it. She still looks good.

With Kate Winslet (who also looks stunning). It’s clear she has had no work. You can see the lines that you would expect on a 50 year old face. Rachel is 55…

Delatron · 06/03/2026 12:31

This was in 2011. I guess it’s easy to be against cosmetic work at 40…

Delatron · 06/03/2026 12:33

Link didn’t work but apparently in 2011 she founded the ‘anti cosmetic surgery league’!! With Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson…

jonnybriggswasgreat · 06/03/2026 20:01

Watched three episodes and very much enjoying it, although I don't know if Rachel Weisz is suited to comedy. Leo is super hot (and did anyone else notice his hair is starting to thin a little on his left side?).

Newgirls · 06/03/2026 21:45

It’s entertaining. Everyone is so stylish in the sunshine. Great house. She’s going to unravel which should be fun. I can relate in some ways!

NewGirlInTown · 06/03/2026 22:38

The talking to camera is incredibly irritating. I want to see the storyline play out in front of me without this annoying device. Given up.

DraftLovely · 06/03/2026 22:50

I watched it all the way through and it doesn't improve. They almost made a bit of a point at the end but not quite and then went too 'big' with the ending. I wouldn't recommend or watch it again but it's not the worst thing. If you want quality, enthralling tv, then I wouldn't bother with this one.

Lennonjingles · 07/03/2026 06:48

I’ve now watched 3 episodes, it’s going better now I know the characters.

Faircastle · 07/03/2026 10:38

Leo Woodall is a good actor but I think Rachel Weisz outshone him in this.

I didn't mind the lines-to-camera, they felt purposeful in showing the contrast between what M was saying out loud and what she was actually thinking.

The last couple of episodes did become a bit silly, but I found it entertaining.

I’ve watched it all. Didn’t love it and would give it about 3 stars out of 5. No depth to the characters. Rachel was better than Leo but I found her character so irritating.

It was light hearted fun I guess. But not a recommendation from me.

Mad men guy (the husband John) sorry can’t remember his name was the funniest character and he was the best actor in this.

Also felt zero chemistry between the leads (think I’ve said this already but it’s important!).

Greedybilly · 07/03/2026 15:44

I don't care about RW's face but why is her character married to someone old enough to be her grandad? He is seriously punching!

@Greedybilly Her character has a 27 year old daughter and has been teaching for thirty years, so I’d say she’s roughly the same age as RW, who is 56 today. John Slattery doesn’t look any older than early 60s to me.

She’s unrecognisable. I’m put off by the pretence that she is playing an older woman who is past her prime. Clearly her appearance says otherwise. The show really objectifies Vladimir in a way that would be creepy if the roles were reversed…older man, young woman.

I really like John Slattery who is the only believable character, IMO.

John Slattery is less than a decade older than Rachel Weisz.

I think he was meant to be the hot older teacher so the dynamic is a factor in the story - he’s nearing retirement now

Tootingbec · 08/03/2026 09:16

Hummmmmm I would say a 3.5 out of 5.

Agree RW is far too captivating to for me to believe she would feel “ignored” by men.

I would have liked more character development beyond the RW character. There were hints of it in the Vladimir character - his ego centricity and need to be the centre of attention and I wanted to understand more the dynamic between him and Cynthia - again hinted at but never really unpacked.

But I liked some of the supported cast acting and it was fabulous to look at (RW wardrobe was 💅) and quite funny at times.

Thought Leo Woodall’s accent was fine and he seemed to be given some licence to actually act in the last two episodes - he is rather hot imho 😬

Lennonjingles · 08/03/2026 13:12

Watched all episodes now, what’s everyone’s view on the ending. Am I right in thinking she just wanted an ending to her book. Also think Leo Woodhall is very hot, trying not to think he’s the same age as my Son.
