New bathroom but no ramp for the wheelchair! Timmy doing Obstetrics!

It looks like Trixie will be matron of the lady Emily.

Rhoda has some nice highlights, were they a thing in early 70s?

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/03/2026 20:18

DH thinks Susan's Mum has got gastric cancer. He was right about the lupus last time.

I agree with your DH. I was also right about the lupus. As a retired GP I make a point of trying to get the diagnosis right!

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/03/2026 21:02

They didn’t say what it was just that she had to have 'it' out.

Evenstar · 01/03/2026 21:05

I thought it was her gall bladder

BridgertonToBe · 01/03/2026 21:11

Why did Shelagh go round to Phyllis and Miss Higgins at the end? And then why were they all in the chapel a few scenes later? Are they keeping vigil for SMJ death?

To keep Sister Catherine company basically.
I think.

BridgertonToBe · 01/03/2026 21:22

The more I think about it, Rosalind is actually very stupid. She’s a midwife, living in a nunnery, in the early 1970s, pregnant outside marriage After having premarital sex with a man (and pastor) whose divorce papers are so new the ink hasn’t even dried. She is lucky the Poplar nuns are so understanding as I doubt they would have been in real life…. shotgun wedding or not!

If Cyril’s divorce hadn’t come through or he had refused to marry her, she ran a real risk of getting sacked and ending up homeless, especially as her parents are unsupportive.

And yes I know she was on the pill but as a midwife she should know more than anyone it’s not 100%… and if she didn’t know that one would seriously question whether she’s in the right job.

PinkFrogss · 01/03/2026 21:33

Susan’s sister being pregnant seems like an unnecessary additional storyline at this point.

I’m guessing whatever Trixie is sorting with the private hospital will save Nonnatus House

LIZS · 01/03/2026 21:39

Is it the finale next week? Belinda giving birth as SMJ passes away? Susan’s story feels unresolved. Beryl going through menopause and realising she missed her chance to be a mum but becoming a nhs Health Visitor or running a mum and baby home?

MarchWindsAnd · 01/03/2026 21:45

@LIZS , according to my on-screen planner next week is episode 8/8. There’s a short synopsis for the episode, with nothing surprising in it.

Judy Parfitt (Sister Monica Joan) is such an excellent actress.

Perhaps it was there to ram home gently emphasise how uncertain the prevention of pregnancy still was in 1971.

Maybe, let’s hope so, but I’ll be a bit surprised if it does.

MooFroo · 01/03/2026 22:01

I’ve only just started watching it a few weeks ago and am at series 6 I think.
Lovely easy and nostalgic watch so far but tbh got a bit bored and same, esp as was binge watching so switched to rewatching Peaky blinders instead!

The early pills were not as reliable as they are now.

Susan’s dad talking at the AA meeting made me cry. I thought that was well done.

As a side note, the council grant for the new bathroom in pampas beige took me right back. My parents had a similar grant for a kitchen and bathroom extension in 1972 when I was 9. Our bathroom was Sun King and our new kitchen units were orange. I fell off the scaffolding outside the bathroom pretending to Olga Korbut at the Munich Olympics and got concussion.

nondrinker1985 · 01/03/2026 22:28

Watched with the forward button today sorry if it’s already been said but Dr Turner Jnr is literally a rabbit in headlights every two mins!

Yes the AA meeting was very moving.

They should have made the bathroom avocado!

I loved the character of Susan, she was so sweet. Well acted too.

MarchWindsAnd · 01/03/2026 23:51

I agree about the AA meeting, too.

IdentityCris · 02/03/2026 00:44

I'm annoyed with Beryl apparently becoming a secretary. She's a trained nurse and also has extensive experience as a social worker. Surely she could be more ambitious?

They didn’t say what it was just that she had to have 'it' out.

Didn't Dr Turner say it was her gallbladder that needed to come out, the reason she was taking so much milk of magnesia was because she kept delaying the planned surgery
