If anyone ever asks me to design an Olympic torch, I fancy a flamethrower type device. It will have safety features, but passing the flame to next person will be spectacle. With a hint of jeopardy.

Every time I see them stepping through the big ring I am reminded of the Star Trek episode The City on the Edge of Forever. They need to be careful not to be sent back in time in order to fall in love with Joan Collins and then let her die .
