Opening ceremony tonight, from 6.30pm on BBC2. Surprised it’s not on BBC1.

Charlize is looking gorgeous

Didn't realise that's who it was.

BassinBas · 06/02/2026 22:06

(apart from that weird af NHS dance)

We've taken a break to watch Astrid in Paris, come back and it’s still going. How come Bocelli's orchestra was a) too small, b) not miced up and c) the chorus was nowhere to be seen? We’re wondering whether he was miming tbh.

I've taken part in stadium based opening and closing ceremonies. All the performers sang over tracks because the sound distorts outdoors and due to the shape of the stadium.

Sound of a door slamming as the Vances leave the stadium at that speech.

Hide of a rhino that one, it wont even register with him.

He’ll just be looking at the crew carrying the OC flag and grumbling about it being too woke.

Why not? We did the same in 2012. Most of the drummers/dancers were just londoners who signed up.

Oh no shade; they just commented that they were all yoofs to inspire yoofs.

the80sweregreat · 06/02/2026 22:07

Peace and harmony. Somehow I bet it’s not when you’re trying to get the bid. Then it’s more about the money.

Good. They should have their moment.

A friend of mine was in that.
Still weird though.

SwedishEdith · 06/02/2026 22:08

Nicolo Gaboni looked quite easy on the eye 👀

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 06/02/2026 22:08

London 2012 was so well put together. A real triumph.

We bought the DVD, I still watch it with the kids occasionally. Caliban’s Dream still one of my favourite pieces of music ever.

EleanorReally · 06/02/2026 22:10

I got the dvd as well

BassinBas · 06/02/2026 22:11

Wow that guy looks calm but I bet he's shiteing it.

viques · 06/02/2026 22:11

Now that’s a smart uniform, i like a military cloak. I bet the Italian athletes are feeling a bit miffed and shortchanged. Now the flag is handed over to people in hazmat suits. Why not.

RafaistheKingofClay · 06/02/2026 22:11

Those are excellent hats.

AnnaMagnani · 06/02/2026 22:12

Andrea Bocelli is 67 and hasn't got a fully operatically trained voice. He likely can't sound like when he first became famous and has been miked/miming for ages.

And he was never in the same league as Pavarotti - who also had a damaged voice by Italia 90.

Anyway, less opera snobbery from me as I'm currently watching the Wurzels.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 06/02/2026 22:12

The Italian military dress uniforms have got it all going on. Epaulettes, shiny chains, funny hats.

the80sweregreat · 06/02/2026 22:13

Nice dress!

Doryismyspiritanimal · 06/02/2026 22:13

you get a second use out of your wedding dress my love, go on!

BassinBas · 06/02/2026 22:13

Lang Lang nicely controlled for once. He has phenomenal technique but overplays everything.

Thewonderfuleveryday · 06/02/2026 22:13

Having a small ceremony in the actual mountains is a nice touch.

RafaistheKingofClay · 06/02/2026 22:14

More shiny puffer jackets for the choir.

Silverbirchleaf · 06/02/2026 22:14

the80sweregreat · 06/02/2026 22:13

Yes, I agree.

Commiserations.

1976 TOTP is invariably shit, despite punk kicking off.

AMouseWithValour · 06/02/2026 22:14

At least they let him sit at the piano and not hang him upside down like the French dude.
