Opening ceremony tonight, from 6.30pm on BBC2. Surprised it’s not on BBC1.

OP posts:

I missed Finland’s coats.

EleanorReally · 06/02/2026 20:18

They have three places, cortina and two others

EleanorReally · 06/02/2026 20:19

German coats are ridiculous

The Finnish contingent is pretty huge! I feel like the entire nation of Finland is genetically programmed to be great at sport! They have three f1 champions in 75 years for a country that is so clearly heavily invested in winter sport!

Finland has a special relationship with F1 and motor racing. Apparently. There was a documentary about it a few years ago so it must be true

FuzzyPuffling · 06/02/2026 20:19

Germany have gone for bucket hats. Different!

Kirschcherries · 06/02/2026 20:19

Germany have gone funky.

Bowednotbroken · 06/02/2026 20:19

Not keen on Germany’s outfits

I loved Denmark when I went there last year.

Diana Davis doesn't sound very Georgian.

American born Russian apparently

I've just tuned in--I was going to ask if someone could explain the geography to me? The team comes into what looks like a stadium through a big gold ring, but then is suddenly in a village...Is the ring a Stargate? Then I figured out they were in different locations. But what is the big swirl meant to represent? Is it like the yellow brick road? Also, yay Estonia dancing!

I think it’s to do with who’s competing where, but the main stadium is in Milan; the village bit is Cortina and different bits of the teams are coming out in each place (if that makes sense?)

HoorayHattie · 06/02/2026 20:19

I've got an oodie just like that . . . .

SquirrelFan · 06/02/2026 20:19

😮 Germany

You could train with a Tesco’s shopping trolley - bonus points if it had a wonky wheel.

Be useful for working out moves for sliding across the ice to take out other teams.

I missed Finland’s coats.

Classy, but not funny.

Davros · 06/02/2026 20:19

Where is Hugo Boss when you need him?

Supergirl1958 · 06/02/2026 20:20

Why are the Germans wearing oodie/sleeping bags?

the80sweregreat · 06/02/2026 20:20

Germany taking the Michael with their outfits

EleanorReally · 06/02/2026 20:20

Livigno Milan and cortina and predazzo

Raahh · 06/02/2026 20:20

Germant have come in dry robes rather than puffer jackets.

FuzzyPuffling · 06/02/2026 20:20

HoorayHattie · 06/02/2026 20:19

I am wearing my oodie ( rip off) with polar bears on. It is no funnier than some of these outfits.

My understanding is their standard driving test includes sliding. They are good drivers not just F1.

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/02/2026 20:21

"It's all skidding, innit?" said my DH.
Bath Uni (where a lot of the GB summer and winter teams train) has a luge track. It's a set of rails on a hillside.
I've also met Robin Cousins (we're from the same part of Bristol).

AnnaMagnani · 06/02/2026 20:21

Reminding DH that we have been to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Drove through it in torrential rain, glued to the back of the truck in front as it was the only thing we could see through the monsoon.

Maybe not our favourite holiday memory.

I would love to see that doc.

Im a huge f1 fan. Loved Mika Hakkinen and Kimi Raikkonen.

viques · 06/02/2026 20:21

These are good coats from Germany, they look as though you can turn them into useful things like dog beds or tents. Lots of Velcro and poppers there I think.

And rallying.

I think it’s the long winter nights - you either drink or do dangerous sports.
