I thought the women's self defence one was awful. I have a real problem with that kind of message. That women should simply empower themselves and learn to fight. As if it's that simple.

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2026 02:46

That wasn’t really around empowering women or helping anyone apart from herself. A franchise that needed 3,500 to set up , then you would have to buy all the equipment and do the marketing , hire a hall , get enough people interested to do the courses.
I did like the hats though!

cariadlet · 31/01/2026 07:23

The hats were ridiculous - as were the prices that she charged for them. Only useful as a signal that the person wearing them would almost certainly be someone I'd want to avoid.

StudyinBlue · 31/01/2026 11:21

I was a bit surprised by the products tonight. To me those hats were novelty hats that you might wear as an impulse at a festival but not for £250?

I wasn’t particularly inspired by the drink made out of some crop. The branding as a start was very dull and I would have alarm bells as to why someone who had allegedly acquired 2 million funding ((clarified to 90% there when pushed) needed to come to Dragon’s Den unless it was for publicity. Plus it was just a prototype with nothing to say it would take off in an already very saturated market.

The self-defence franchise (because basically that’s all it was) just seemed very run of the mill. Surely classes are ten a penny. I remember doing some at Uni some 40 years ago. Plus it’s a relatively short lived course. Don’t most people go for 10 to 12 weeks and that’s it and then you have to find more course members. It’s not like conventional martial arts classes where there are grades etc and people can continue their whole life if they want. Was a bit disappointed overall with this week’s offering.

cleaningthebog · 31/01/2026 11:25

I couldn't stop looking at the new dragon's lips. Can't remember her name but she's in the beauty industry. Not a good advert.

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2026 16:09

The new Dragon lady seems ok, but I kept thinking she wouldn’t look out of place on the Gladiators! She looks scary , but was actually quite pleasant once she spoke
I liked Sara, but she is now doing a new quiz show that is a big complicated to follow on a first watch.
Touker always makes me laugh , he is such a misery!

Flouryspud · 31/01/2026 20:26

All I could think of is the bulk of those annual photo journals and in time to come whoever has to sort them out …if one is created each year! Or where you’d store them, they were huge. I remember sorting my parents’ old photo albums so hard to throw away. Or maybe I completely misunderstood the idea.

StudyinBlue · 31/01/2026 21:18

@FlouryspudI’d forgotten about those. I genuinely can’t see many people spending all that time printing out and photo and putting it in that photo album. I can see it has an impulse by. Managing it for about a week and then it gathering dust, possibly with a pile spare of photos on top. I also think young people take photos these days to show off on Instagram etc and you can’t really do that with an album.

Yes I agree but apparently it’s not a photo album it’s a photo journal. I was with Touker on this one! Didn’t like the hats either though Stephen’s suited him!

All I can say is that the woman with the hats lives in a very different world to the one I live in.

Yes ! Imagine sitting on the bus wearing one of those! You’d have to have two seats to yourself or take up most of the aisle! 😂

Netcurtainnelly · 07/02/2026 21:37

I missed Thursdays this week?

StudyinBlue · 08/02/2026 13:02

It was much better this week. Actual things that I thought actually could be good. A skin care range made out of waste Mediterranean food. A shopping app where you get points to pay off your mortgage and some other things but I can’t remember now.

The skincare won't even get off the ground. It's a ram jammed market and they will just be buried alive.

StudyinBlue · 08/02/2026 22:44

@Ebok1990I thought it might have a chance because of the eco aspect of it plus if you get repeat customers who love the texture and the effects then you could be on to a winner. She did have beautiful skin. But it was pretty expensive. I was thinking of trying it but the price put me off. I would want a free sample to persuade me.

BillieWiper · 08/02/2026 22:59

It's so fake now. They always want everything no matter how lame, for a tiny percentage and they all want to share.

Those festival hats were absurd. You could sell them as novelty items to people twatted on psychedelics at niche events but who would spend £300 on something you'd only wear once or twice for a joke?!

At best you could do a stall in Camden market or something.

They would just try it on at the stall, take a pic then put it back.

And how many people would actually want one?

It's hardly an amazing money spinning idea for an original or corporate business.

She gave them their money back.

I read it.

I wasn’t keen on them having Susie Ma on as a judge. I known they claim that tropic is into an Mlm but it is really in all but name

Agreed. It's absolutely a MLM. Her comments on building a community and that community buying the products themselves to sell on didn't even try to hide it.

Netcurtainnelly · 13/02/2026 14:08

Oh the apps. All the apps completely unaccessible to anyone without a smart phone.
