Because they're men, and men generally change the rules to suit themselves. Especially when they are pretending to be women.

TBF La Voix was already quite well known as La Voix, whereas the drag king on the Bake Off AFAIK didn't have any telly exposure, so it wouldn't have made sense for her to come as him.

KimberleyClark · 23/12/2025 07:12

I don’t think there is anything sleazy about Chris’s brand of drag.

I've only seen him on Strictly as drag is not my thing and I dont think so either but my reaction was to the 'whole new audience' rather than Chris. If the BBC is prepared to push out the core Strictly audience that have been here for decades in the hope of pulling in a new audience that goes ohh great drag I think they would also have to change the vibe of the show. It's camp and sparkly now so if that isn't already appealing to this 'whole new audience' they are going to have to change the vibe.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/12/2025 17:12

Nobody’s mentioned a ‘whole new audience.’ I was wondering if the inclusion of LV would attract a new audience in addition to the show’s current loyal army of fans; not suggesting the beeb were trying to take it in completely a new direction. They’d be mad to mess around too much with such a beloved family pre-watershed show.

dapsnotplimsolls · 23/12/2025 17:51

I don't think there are any presenters who would actually stop me watching but I hope they're paying Craig whatever he wants to keep him.

I'm late to this (didn't get to watch it til Sunday pm) but I thought it was a pretty good final. Very emotional, right from when Tess and Claudia came on and got the world's biggest ovation.
My gut always said Karen and, even though George arguably had the better night, I knew she would win.
Amber's paso underwhelmed me the first time and did so again. I just don't like a rock paso.
Show dance was boring and I agreed with Craig it was a series of tricks and poses more than a dance. Rubbish song and I hated the sleazy-pop-vid-outfits. Why does everyone want to dress like that?
Jive: I thought it was overpraised the first time and this time too. She wasn't into the ground enough and didn't have the right pumping leg action.
She was sweet when talking about how she'd love one of her friends to win though, so good for her.

George's VW was great. I loved how he turned out to be a ballroom dancer more than Latin.
Show dance was a bit earnest, but he danced it well and it showed a range of skills.
Didn't really like his paso and I wonder if it was misjudged; I think at that stage of the competition people want less drama and more fun.

Loved seeing Karen's AT again, and she danced it even better than before. Spine-tingling music, great gender-bending concept, beautifully acted, ganchos were fab.
Show dance was (surprisingly) slightly underwhelming, but showed off her athleticism and their partnership and was clearly fun.
It was a stroke of genius to do the jive again; reminded everyone of what a nice surprise she was the first time, and they clearly had the time of their lives.
I think she won it when she said to Tess how much she'd miss her and Claud and how lucky they were that Tess was the first person they spoke to after their dances.
And she won it again when she talked about wanting to make Birmingham proud and how she'd missed having a team.
And Carlos won it when he broke down talking about how 'self-centred' he'd been and how she made him a better person.

Although my favourite Karen moment was probably a couple of weeks back (I think) when she just simply said about Carlos, 'He's my guy.'

I was in bits through most of it TBH Grin

What a lovely review

firstofallimadelight · 23/12/2025 18:17

The thing is they can get away with a less know presenter because the show carries its self. If they stick holly, Amanda or Zoe in there it’s literally no different to Tess. This is an opportunity to freshen it up a bit and try to attract a younger audience (whilst holding on to the loyal fans)
Someone younger maybe? A male/female dynamic? I’d like jannette and aliash (sp) if they were capable. Rylan would be good. Maya Jama?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 23/12/2025 18:25

i strongly dislike Maya Jama so I hope not

Who needs drag in mainstream shows? Strictly gets a huge audience still and it’s not going to keep young people in who would rather be out with mates. They need to keep family viewers and there’s nothing wrong with the current formula.

You do realise Strictly is the campest show on Tv right with skimpy outfits and gyrating hips and occasionally a man in heels?

sittingonabeach · 23/12/2025 22:18

@LittleBitofBread Stefan Dennis was much more famous as Paul Robinson in neighbours, but he didn’t turn up in character and if he had pretended he had prosthetic leg there would likely have been an outcry, but okay for a man to pretend to be a woman

I think that’s a false equivalence. I was specifically talking about why a drag queen known for being a drag queen isn’t the same as someone who’s not publicly known as a drag king. And playing a character in a soap isn’t the same as having a persona who is your act.

Can you describe the difference, as I'm struggling to see it?

LittleBitofBread · 24/12/2025 09:45

Jesus.

Try reading a bit about the history and theory of drag, if you’re really interested and not just trying to prove a point.

sittingonabeach · 24/12/2025 09:49

Why don’t you explain it @LittleBitofBread?

Thank you! And a fun thread about Strictly.
There’s some dogs with bones on here.

I’m looking forward to the Xmas special, although it’ll be bitter-sweet watching Tess and Claudia knowing they’ve already left.

TennisWithDeborah · 24/12/2025 11:06

I felt sadness last Saturday when it kind of hit that Tess and Claudia won’t be back in September. But now I’m looking forward to seeing what their replacements, whoever they may be, will do with the roles.

You are not struggling at all, you know it is fine not to like or agree to men dressing up as women for entertainment, you don't have to pretend you are confused to get a rise out of posters.

Well exactly.
This is faux innocence at its finest.

Not true. The poster said there is a difference. I can't see what that difference is and asked them to articulate it. They cant/won't.

We're discussing Strictly.

That's the raison d'etre of this thread.

There was a suggestion that a drag queen might be one of the new presenters, so we're talking about it.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/12/2025 13:18

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne it’s the non festive tone I’m objecting to. Besides which I am against La Voix having any sort of role in Strictly Future and I’ve said so multiple times. I know it’s an issue that gets people fired up, but I don’t want the thread to be a place of hostility. Issues and comments about La Voix have abounded all series, it doesn’t need to be done to death, views have been heard, we’re just going around in circles

OP one of the most important and interesting things to happen to Strictly is unfolding at the moment.

Of course there will be strong opinions aired. You can't tell Mumsnetters what they can and can't post.

If you prefer, I'll give you my recipe for shallot and oatmeal stuffing, but that has nothing to do with Strictly.

I’m not telling anyone what they can and can’t post. Post away but please don’t be aggressive or snipe at people. It’s not the vibe of the thread or the time of year. You never know what someone else is going through when all you see is what they type. Let’s be merry and bright.
