Call the midwife

The Christmas special of call the midwife is on bbc 1 in 2 parts again. The first part is on at 20:15 on Christmas day and the second part is on at 20:30 on boxing day. I am not a fan of the Christmas special been in 2 parts. I wonder how doctor Turner and his simpering wife will save the world.

I called it on the calcified baby here too. That poor woman. As someone who can’t have children myself I can understand how devastating that would be. To have been pregnant and not even have known.

Did Rosalind basically stand in the street and yell "shag me Cyrill!"

Edited

I thought the exact same thing 🤣

MaloryJones · 01/02/2026 20:54

Really ridiculous says my Mum . 82.
A couple such as Cyril (I like him) and Rosalind would go through all sorts of nastiness
I very much doubt a Hotel in York would be less than impressed to see them show up (said DM)
Its certainly a different show to the gritty early series that I love.

Exactly. There were more and more mixed marriages but they still faced challenges and racism. Many hotels would still be ill inclined to allow unmarried couples without raising an eyebrow let alone a mixed couple.

The actor who plays Timothy really does look so much like Dr Turner

Poor May Sad

Lalgarh · 01/02/2026 21:07

We're now at the timeline where newly reinvented twinkly granny Vanessa Redgrave irl by the 70s was only having anything to do with Nuns if she was doing unspeakable things to Oliver Reed in The Devils

I’ve never heard of a stone baby before. How grim

I have never heard of it either.

I had because I'm morbid

My prediction is that Sr Veronica goes back to HK to find that Esther has disappeared again, so she adopts Christopher.

TheNightingalesStarling · 01/02/2026 21:42

As soon as the surgeon looked sho ked I knew it was going to be a "baby".

I'd thought it was kidneys before that.

DD asked if they really were allowed to just keep things in a museum like that. I'd like to say not now... but I'm not 100% sure!

Toddlerteaplease · 01/02/2026 21:43

Also wondering how the Turners deal with Mays trauma at her brother going back to mum, but she isn’t.

Yes. And they showed examples of 'fetus in fetu' on that programme. Something once seen, you cannot unsee. 😱

Fetus in feto is different from the stone baby though. I knew about f in f from other programmes but not stone baby. Had to look it up straight away.

PrimalScreaming · 01/02/2026 21:53

Is this a way of writing Sister Veronica out? Last character to leave for sustained time in Hong Kong was Patsy. She came back briefly but then went on to make Oscar winning films and funnily enough never came back! And what about Geoffrey... what was all that about if not a Lavender Marriage?

Surely Christopher would go back to the Turners?

Ethics prevents putting samples liked that in museums now but older collections can still be viewed. The best connection I've seen is in Vienna. You are not permitted to take photos at all out of respect but it is fascinating.

PrimalScreaming · 01/02/2026 22:09

Ah yes, I was forgetting this is the end!
I'm looking forward to a wartime version - it really needs a shake up!

The writer said end of an era not end of the series.

That was so sad. I really felt for that couple xxx

Poor stone lady baby although I’m glad it wasn’t cancer. The bedside manner of the doctors was disgraceful.

Poor May :( I felt so sad for her

Yeah re bedside manner or lack of
It was like that said DM
Very much science based with little empathy (Not all Doctors or Surgeons but certainly a fair few)

very emotional episode this week - stone baby storyline was heartbreaking.

Also poor May meeting her brother then him having to leave again, utterly traumatising for her

Evenstar · 01/02/2026 23:16

I said to DH it was a stone baby, he was amazed as he had never heard of them but I also remember the Casualty episode many years ago.
