The Christmas special of call the midwife is on bbc 1 in 2 parts again. The first part is on at 20:15 on Christmas day and the second part is on at 20:30 on boxing day. I am not a fan of the Christmas special been in 2 parts. I wonder how doctor Turner and his simpering wife will save the world.

The Kingsleys have a tv but no food or clothes for the kids?

blobby10 · 11/01/2026 20:49

and how come mr Kingsley is so fat when they live in poverty? Did think the baby that sister v took was gorgeously chubby 😊

blobby10 · 11/01/2026 20:53

Are the newer nuns wearing lipstick? Or is it my tv?

LIZS · 11/01/2026 20:55

Beryl and Geoffrey?!

bizzey · 11/01/2026 20:58

Ohh wow !
Well I suppose the hints have been there about how Sister V was getting very broody .

Alpacajigsaw · 11/01/2026 20:58

Ah the usual shit but I enjoyed it

PumpkinSpice24 · 11/01/2026 21:00

I suspect sister Veronica / Beryl might be a repeat of sister Bernadette/ shelagh turner storyline, could see that coming either how she’s been scripted recently with children .

also is it just me or has Trixies accent got very plummy the last few seasons..?!

emanresuchange · 11/01/2026 21:00

I enjoyed that, haven’t enjoyed CTM for yonks but that was lovely.

I wish they put a little more time in to realism. I'm sure they used to. The 28 weeker is far too rounded and pink. I know I'm not picking but it's distracting.

I thought exactly the same! Not sure about the logic for a tracheostomy. Did they routinely do them on neonates in the early 70’s? Not much point unless there is airway obstruction or they can’t get them off the ventilator after a prolonged period.

imtryingtoleave · 11/01/2026 21:01

i loved it felt like it used to be

Was a lot better than the Christmas specials which were way too far fetched.

Needmorelego · 11/01/2026 21:03

My husband is an Airfix fan.
He says that set was ALL WRONG for 1971.
Wrong style box and a model not available then.
🤣🤣🤣

PrimalScreaming · 11/01/2026 21:04

Beryl has a touch of 'Pram Fever'... Lavender marriage ahead!

Needmorelego · 11/01/2026 21:05

Oh the glorious Turner's
I am waiting for "the girls" to become teenage rebels

I want a spin off show of May and Angela being teenage rebels.
They're gonna crack at some point in the next few years......😂

NimbleHiker · 11/01/2026 21:05

It was a big improvement on the christmas specials.

Is Geoffrey going to be her sperm donor?

bizzey · 11/01/2026 21:07

My tear ducts got worked ...so I didn't feel disappointed at this episode ! 😁😁

Did they do the turkey baster method in the 70s...🤔

bizzey · 11/01/2026 21:09

Surely Beryl /Veronica would not want to be an unmarried mother ?

NecklessMumster · 11/01/2026 21:14

Omg, bra burning was NOT a thing, that's made me so cross

FakeItUntilIMakeIt · 11/01/2026 21:16

Oh my goodness Beryl!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/01/2026 21:16

Thought that was a good episode, the neglect story line was believable as was the premmie baby.

I thought the little girl was dead after falling out the window, why didn’t the kids get taken sooner.

The women’s liberation stuff is interesting as is the NHS employing the nuns and the backlash from the nuns. I wonder with the fewer home births if we’ll see more district nurse storylines.

I thought that. My NICU experience wasn't until the early 90s but a trachy was very much a last resort then, only for babies who needed very long term ventilation or who had some other reason like craniofacial abnormalities. In my experience it's certainly not something that would have been discussed in the early days for a baby who was "just" prem, so I doubt very much that an early trachy would have been the norm 20 years earlier. It wasn't even standard in adult ICU patients until later. And why did they keep using the word tracheotomy rather than tracheostomy which was certainly the preferred term in this country for the entirety of my career. Will we be hearing about appendectomies and epinephrine next??

I predict that she will leave the order and marry Geofry.

Nonnatus House having a crisis
Nurse Cranes Roladex
Trixie being out of touch
Rosalind being soppy
Heartwarming scene with Sister MJ and young nun

All but the Roladex I think on my bingo card!

I liked that episode.
