Ok, Ill admit I watched the finale when I got up and had already been halfway through S4 again , so went straight back and watched from there

And again I can not see a foot wrong with the finale.

They gave everybody what they wanted

And whilst I said I do believe before, Im not so sure now - Khali was very much dead when they left her

But I want to believe :)

Im in my 60s and my reading material in the 70/80's was usually about telekinesis and it being used for war far , and anyone who had any ability was hunted their lives

Eleven had to end it and what I personally believe , is although she didnt want to die, she was happy to sacrifice herself because of Hopper and Mike - they humanised her , she had been a lab rat, but as she said they saw her. She learned human emotions - most of all love

Ive been a sobbing mess all day. I been screaming at the tv , ave been sobbing

It was a great finale if viewers were d=so emotionaly invested.

ST will be on my viewing list for as long as it's on Netflix. I ve watch at least all season till 5 - 4 times

I believe 🙂

I think the first half was exciting but overall disappointed in this final episode and in season five. I think there were too many threads over the four prior seasons and they just couldn’t bring everything together into a convincing whole. The dialogue was woeful in parts of season 5 as well.

Moonlightdust · 01/01/2026 18:00

It felt so poignant when they put their D&D books up on the shelf for the last time, affirmed with Mike’s younger sister taking over with the next generation… It was a perfect ending from where it all began. I will miss this series 🥹

Raven08 · 01/01/2026 18:09

I feel oddly bereft after watching.
I've loved the series (I'm the only one of my family who watch..)
I loved that we saw the kids grow up and be happy.
Dustin was so great at graduation...Eddie would have been proud 💔
I feel like I've watched all the actors grow up <sniff>
I believe 💙

Was it Patty Newby singing in the scene with the Hopper proposal at the end?

I just watched it again with my eldest and enjoyed it far more the second time! Definitely give it another watch if you’re unsure how to feel.

I shed many tears the second watch, I’m so sad it’s over. I don’t think S5 had the cinematic gravitas of S4 but it was a beautiful wrap up.

DS thought it was - I haven't seen the play so no idea.

I feel the same, a bit empty 😕
I was like it years a go when Charmed finished and super natural 😌.
But all signs of a good show, thats how they want you to feel like.

I thought the ending was done well, I feel El finished like she did season one.

I also feel like it wasnt supposed to be massive on deaths and ultimately a coming of age show with nostalgia thrown in.

As others said first half was good but too much filler in last 30 minutes. But they didn't cover who was the guy in the cave that Henry killed and where did the rock in the suitcase come from? Is this covered in the stage show? Also it was actually relatively easy for Henry to enter the cave considering he was so scared of it so why didn't he just do it before to get Max? Yes so many questions but all in all a satisfactory conclusion.

I don’t think it was easy for Henry to enter the cave at all. It literally floored him. It was the antithesis of Will facing his fear. Will had friends and family and faced it and was met with love and acceptance. Henry faced his greatest fear alone and without closure, and at the end embraced his evil. He didn’t change. It was the dark to Will’s light.

I said to my family I thought it could be!

Daytimetellyqueen · 01/01/2026 19:46

Who is Patty Newby? Why is she relevant to the show?

MrsMitford3 · 01/01/2026 12:04

haha DD just said to me-so Vecna just liked clocks?

I didn't feel any of the intensity of previous seasons.
Never really felt peril-compared to The Battle of Star Court or when they break out of Hawkins lab and Bob is killed-I just never thought anything bad was going to happen to any of the characters.
And I thought the re-introduction of Kali so meh.
Although if she did save El in the end then there is a point to her.
Way too many nostalgic montages.

And I will say it again-way too many characters.
Erica has been great in previous seasons but pretty pointless here, same with Vickie.

It was fine but generally underwhelming.
Didn't feel the buzz like after early seasons/episodes.
Did they keep everyone alive for the spin off?
Will it be joyce and hopper in Montauk?

I am glad they didn't kill Steve but they could have bashed up a few in the battles.
And Dr Kay?

Yeah, I thought with the additional side characters, at least one of them would have died!… i had my money on Vickie and Science teacher

She is Bob’s (adopted) sister, she’s a critical character in the stage show, she’s Henry’s only friend. Her mum was a singer and she liked to sing which is why we we are wondering if it was her in the restaurant, although she leaves Hawkins end of the show.

Thanks! I loved the finale & it’s all making me even more excited for the stage show (going next Saturday!)

Oh have a great time, it’s a brilliant show! I’ve seen it twice now I liked it so much!

realsavagelike · 01/01/2026 21:37

So much blubbing from the cast...Presumably their genuine emotions at the series coming to an end.

AutumnLover1989 · 01/01/2026 22:03

We thought it was the perfect ending. The Prince music was 🥰

Thought Linda Hamilton's character was pointless.

Loved the ending. Mikes story at then end is near enough exactly what I said to dd when we watched the scene in the first half of the episode. Started with d&d and finished with D&D. Glad there wasn’t 5 deaths like everyone was saying. I do feel like they left it open, but also closed it too. Very good story telling.

Love this! Spot on. Although I do have some sadness for Henry having to face his greatest fear alone when Will was so loved. But I get why it was like that.

Justcantwin89 · 02/01/2026 00:08

Did anyone hear the heart beat? I think it's an hour 23 ish in.
Just after El disappears and its a blank screen, first you hear the clock then a heart beat then the bricks being laid.
Maybe best to listen on your phone right to your ear or with headphones.

x12 · 02/01/2026 00:14

Just finished it.

Well I feel bad for my Kali distrust!

I was surprised that the “we won” bit came so soon and I kept thinking that it would reveal that it was a dream and the mind flayer had actually won. But it was different & nice to see how they all were after although a bit long, I did cry a fair bit!

Hopper seemed remarkably happy / philosophical after losing El

Yes, I thought El would be alive as he was seemingly fine. I do believe she died.

I agree that the ending was very in keeping with 80s film where the goodies always win and it was about growing up & that transition to adulthood.

readingmakesmehappy · 02/01/2026 06:51

Way too many characters, several should have died if it was really that dangerous, and finale was 30 mins too long
