Ah that makes sense 😂 and no I never saw Mike as gay. I think some of the hardcore weirdo superfans saw Noah Schnapp, who plays Will, say Will has a crush on Mike and they’ve been obsessively wishing they get together.

Also in season 4 he looks unhappy and uncomfortable with the girl trying to play footsie with him - although I thought that was weird anyway in class. His whole speech to Mike in the car and Jonathan talking to him after was also clearly inferring he was gay and loved Mike. DS and I at the time thought it would be a great twist if it turned out Will was actually straight and in love with 11 😆

There has never been any indication Mike is gay or has any reciprocal feeling for Will. He has always been all about 11.

I think DS and I are going to watch it at 1am.

I'm a lightweight as well but we've stupidly made plans for NYD and there is no way DS will hold until the evening! I stayed up for GOT... hopefully history will not repeat itself!

Fortunately we are having friends around early evening so have some time. I think I did stay up for GOT though.

@DontFallInTheHaHa completely agree with your list as to who can't die and who I'm not bothered about.

There have been numerous moments from the beginning about Will being gay. His dad calling him a fag, kids at school referring to him as queer, the moment with him and Jonathan in the pizza delivery van. I also have never had any inkling of Mike being gay. His affection for Will is purely platonic and it's obvious (to me anyway) that he has no clue as to the extent of Will's feelings for him.

I actually loved Will's coming out. It made me cry a little. Particularly as he realised Mike was his Tammy. Noah's acting has been phenomenal this season and unfortunately his excellent and emotional acting (plus excellent acting from most of the other kids) has made MBB look very wooden indeed.

Are there any links to where the Duffer brothers said there would be 5/6 deaths in season 5?
I can only find articles saying they never actually said that.

The only interview I can find of them talking about deaths is them saying Stranger Things is not GOT and there won't be a red wedding situation, and that they don't do things for shock value.

What do we think of the theory that the audience is under vecnas curse? Have you seen the dial at the radio station changed colours between vol1 and vol2. I think there could be something to it.

It would be pandering and a stain on the show precisely because Mike has not been written as a gay character.

The claimed examples of queer coding are very tenuous, often stuff like "this sheet of paper on the background has a rainbow on it", whereas Mike being straight and in a relationship with Eleven has been front and center to his character (and a major part of Will's journey, too).

Suddenly turning straight characters into gay ones, in a way that is directly contrary to their established character and longrunning storylines, would be absolutely ridiculously bad writing and such a blatant example of tokeinism that it would be problematic.

Have gay characters, tell gay stories. Turning an obviously straight character, whose straightness is relevant to his relationships with other characters (including gay ones), and suddenly make them gay for no good reason in the closing minutes, is not good representation.

I agreed with all of this except the last line about MBB - she’s been fantastic throughout!

The last series i really got into was Umbrella academy and they butched that last episode. Mind you season 4 was bad throughout whereas this one hasn't.

Not expecting major deaths. Too little time for it to be emotional. Few sidelines maybe..do worry about Mr Clarke. Likeable character dont stick around but maybe not being introduced this season he has a chance.

Either way..come to the end!

Not just ‘hardcore, wierdo superfans’ who interpret Mike as not being straight, and that interpretation is based on the portrayal from the start and throughout.

I'm rather worried for Steve.

I have found MBB's acting quite wooden too but don't think it's helped by the El/Hopper/Kali storyline being a bit dull. FWIW I don't really rate Kali's acting either. I liked episode 5 & 6 but 7 dragged a bit. I don't know whether it was wise as we saved it so it felt a bit anti-climatic.

There's been a lot of speculation on line about whether there's a "good" part of Henry left that will come to the fore in the final episode and join forces with 11 and 8 to fight the Mind Flayer but I don't feel like this has been hinted at.

Lots of back to the future references to do wondering if we'll get a flashback to Joyce's play in the 60s.

I don't see it. He's been besotted with El right from the start.

Plenty of people online having similar debates. Probably to continue beyond the finale!

I will be cross if they kill Steve or Nancy!
